Can't hurt.... after all, there's plenty of evidence that Disney sometimes accepts names that directly contradict their policies. So who knows, like I said before, it could just depend on the day. :)

Otherwise, any ideas for 'pair' names that would be approved are welcome folks!!! Name our pirates!!

I can tell ya Fafhrd and Gray Mouser were out right refused before, likely the copy right issue there.

But I know I also was refused on this other that no way could be related to copy right. This is a name I saw the other day, so re-trying, the worse that could happen its rejected again. Maybe tell ya why this time, haha.

Edward Edgemenace 02-19-2009 05:20 AM

Well, that's the rub, isn't it? They don't ever say why a name is rejected.

Sorry, your pirate name was rejected because (check one):
  • Not funny enough
  • Too ordinary
  • Is too close to an existing NPC name
  • Is too similar to a widely-know trademark or copywright-protected chatacter name
  • Is a company name, trademark or brand name
  • Is too violent
  • Is too obscene for young audience that would encounter it
  • Has too strong of a religious connotation
  • Is too modern - try a 16th century spelling
  • Has an honorific (Sir, The, King, Queen...)
  • Has a title (Admiral, Commodore, Captain, Boatswain...)
  • Contains numbers ("the Second" is ok but "II" is not.)
  • Contains foul language
  • Has inappropriate mixed case
  • Name might be mistaken for an employee name
  • A phrase or a sentence is not a name
  • Name references an illegal activity
  • Not English (sorry, no Spanish in this context.)
  • Seems to contain personal information

I mean, it can't be so hard for them to generate SOME response. I gleaned the list above from them so it can't be difficult - they already have it.

hmmm..?

Well,.. not to simplify the frustrations,.. for I can certainly understand the disappointment. The consistency of such details needs to come into view.

For the record, Test is a different division and Office all together.
What you will find in administration on Test is completely different from Open administration. Most likely, that is why one allows particular options and another may not… I am hopeful the new content on the way will overshadow your frustrations and perhaps cause them to disappear all together!

( *** = :) ..hehe Edward... now you comment on the content ?

Resubmitting names can work. I've done it on Open with Piper Too, and on Test with Sawyer. Now, don't ask me why they denied them at all (Sawyer was denied twice before being accepted...), but in any case, it can work.

If you're trying to get a name through that's iffy for some reason, though...I wouldn't necessarily push it. ;)

Agreed. It can be taken away if reported.

Yes, I've acknowledged that my focus on fixing glitches, is not as popular as the general desire for the next story chapter. Not sure what that has to do with this topic. In my view, it is a glitch, that they don't give a reason for a "bad" name. How can the pirate (or rather, the person behind the pirate) correct their mistake, if they don't know what it was they did wrong, with their tentative name submission?

On TEST, every name rejection should be countered with a report, pointing out that the rejection message does not say specifically why the name was rejected. But I understand people's reluctance to do that...the people reading the reports are probably the same people approving the names.

Nelly Darkpaine 02-19-2009 08:09 PM

Well, the funny thing is, our names come from a funny thing having to do with my 4 year old. LOL

He likes to play pirates with his foam swords, and my other half is always 'Captain Tickles' LOL So if Disney only knew... they likely wouldnt have an issue! I just came up with Verilee as a fun 'Mrs. Tickles' name! LOL

Oh well.. perhaps we will try em again!

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but what I'm getting is that you're saying some names might be accepted on test that get rejected on open, or vice-versa, thus the guidelines are followed consistently, but we are simply confused? One of us is being misunderstood, because the open guidelines (for example) clearly state no "titles" but there are countless "captains" and "commodores" on open.

Greetings Mates,
the response i was trying to project was...
1) I agree, some consistency would be helpful, on both test and open. Name approval consistency we can depend on.
2) I thought someone stated why one name could work on Open and then not on Test.
My response of “for the record…” was to lend the fact that they are different divisions as well, added input given to help give some understanding as to why inconsistency may be evident in regards to this thread topic and arena as well…? (I hope I assisted in adding some clarity and not confused it, forgive me if the latter was so)

Ah yes, yes, sorry. Gotcha, I had forgotten about that question that was raised. :) And yes, consistency would be lovely. Preferably consistency that goes against the guidelines to a certain extent. I really want a "captain." lol

Commodore Larence 02-20-2009 10:38 AM

It Just Depends...

I think it all just depends what person is working at the time you send in a name, and how busy they are at that point in time. My main pirate I play the most, Larence Tuppington was sent in as a name request of Lawrence Tuppington. When my name came back okay, the "w" had been removed. I know the name was not a typo because I spent about 20 minutes of thinking trying to come up with a real sounding and original pirate name. I now have to live with Larence, and deal with rude people telling me my name is spelled wrong lol. Larence is an actual name that does exist i found out after a Google search.

Side Note: I have a fourth pirate slot I am constantly creating pirates for and deleting trying to make them look like King of The Hill characters... You can not use the name Dale Gribble at all, but after 3 times his alias Rusty Shackleford was accepted, and so was the guild name Dales Dead Bug. Out of boredom I do this just to see if I can get by with it lol. While playing as Rusty, a Peggy Hill pirate came up to me and said hello, and asked me where Hank was... (I thought it was funny figured I would share).

molly pondspinner 02-20-2009 03:03 PM

My boyfriend has a Sir in his, and I have created 2 Lady's. And I have a basic account with my name and my boyfriends last name that was approved so idk. I saw someone at abassa with a very inappropriate name, so I have no idea why ticklish wouldnt be approved.
