Maybe one of the console games?

The pictures in skulls' post look like they're from the E3 convention when they announced pirates online. I saw some footage of the E3 event on the pirates site and they showed people firing cannon balls on land, enemies with the french/spanish sword movements, and the Kraken battle.

The pictures look very pre-beta. The Kraken tentacles... they're a joke compared to the graphics in the phase files. Excuse me, I mean when the Kraken was in the files. Now the beastie is probably out for some unknown reason...

This screenshot I took a few months ago shows the 'large' tentacle.

When it was in the files the animation for it appeared to pull down ships once they lost the battle.

And then there's the regular sized tentacles that would grab pirates up and crush them. These tentacles are probably used as distractions while the big tentacle drags the ship under.

But all the trailers for pirates are probably made by the devs. I believe they have their own server to test things before they release it to test. They probably use that private server to make the trailers. That's just a guess, though.

Back to the Kraken. If you look at his head you can probably guess why they took him out of the files. He needs a make over.:laughks2:

The hybrid games as I refer to, may have been written with the target being potco.

Often in development, when testing code etc, hybrid programs, or side programs are developed, that help them test different things. Like they could technically have a "Kraken" game that they use to test framerates on the Kraken model, etc. I have heard of arcade/special engagement games, where participants battle together, against the eitc, navy, and the Kraken as well.

One way or the other, we see that they have coded the kraken, it would seem they are having difficulty coding it sufficiently into the online released game though.

The descriptions of the first set of pictures, run right along what the developers say in interviews on the official site.

I would say that perhaps they only intended it to pull down ships that had lost their battles, but then why did they have this "battle the kraken game" version of it apparently at E3?

We all sit and wait... some patiently, some not... we're all hoping!

MacIronhawk 07-24-2009 11:07 PM

I'd like to ask them why we can't battle the Kraken now.

I can understand taking him out of the files to work on the head, connecting the tentacles to the body, and working on the animation and graphics. It's amazing how strange POTCO can be. They can 'work' on one thing and give us some previews of what they're doing, but in the end it never works out the way you think it would.

I mean seriously. There was a Kraken battle at E3 but here it is two years later, and nothing! I just can't understand that.

P.S. What is exactly is coding?

The program code, that takes all those images you snag out of the phase files together, and makes them do their magic :)

There is a thread on another site ref. 'The Kraken' and pictures of the actual battle (Kat Bluerat actually took part in battling the Kraken)

As the Kraken appears, Kat levels her cannon, takes aim, as she prepares
to blast away at this massive Beast.

Why not just use Thunderbolt to electrocute the thing?
Notice it's daylight right now. We'll see later on.

The Kraken makes his massive size known as he produces more of his huge tenticles.

Notice how, 1: It's near PDF, and 2: It's at night.

The green puff cloud is blood emitted from the Kraken as it is wounded from Kats
bombardment of cannon fire.

Notice some small red puffs around the Green Puff. Maybe chum :psmiley27:
Now, it is Daylight.

Kat seems to have lost this battle as the Mighty Kraken grabs her body and shakes the living
daylights out of Her and then slams her on the deck.

Notice the Undead Ship ( ship thingy with big vortex and thunder above ) in the Background.
That'll leave a mark.

This seemingly grey puff cloud is Kat being slammed on the deck by this nasty beast!

Did he go to the hospital?

I'd like to see if what they bring out soon is any bearing on what they were playing with 4 years ago.
And many thanks to Kat Bluerat for sharing her pictures with the Founders Association.

Me too, I really can't wait. Here, have some

Sorry, that's my fault. I saw that video in early 2007 and forgot that the video said E3 2006.

But since it's three years, it's even stranger that we don't have a Kraken battle. It must be pretty hard for them to animate him and get him ready for the test server.

swashbuckler II 07-26-2009 06:55 AM

hmm, Now im thinking that some of those people that "fought" the kraken at E3 wernt really fighting him, Maybe they were acting like they were fighting it and it was just a playback.
Its simpler just to create a video then making something to interact with it, And I know i explained it wierd right there.

The Commodore 07-26-2009 01:33 PM

Possibly swash. Also could have been a much simpler version of it. You have to think about since then they've revamped almost everything that was in that video. They could have done a fake kraken, or just done a mock up, with a few animation points, judging by how it went undefeated (I think, correct me if i'm wrong).

MacIronhawk 07-27-2009 12:44 AM

It's more likely that it was a simpler version of it.

One of the video insiders on the pirates site shows the E3 previews of pirates and people playing pirates. The Kraken battle people at E3 played was probably a very washed out version of the Kraken battle.. I bet all the Kraken did was wave around it's tentacles and pick people up. Probably nothing special.

CarribeanThunder 07-27-2009 04:08 AM

Well, when/if they bring out the Kraken, it will probably whack at your ship, doing the damage any ship would do.

any ship , you wish the kraken is 1000 ft long and a mythical sea beastie

would be doing tons of damage like 6000 a minute but the war frigate with the additional sail must have something like 60000hp

papi567 07-27-2009 07:08 PM

I hope the kraken will be released anytime soon someone told me he only appear

in enchanted waters.
