Really? I thought it got rid of both gold and credit for the ship. Guess I'll have to go back and re-read that...
Yes, people still receive credit. I remember seeing the update about that, but I think it mentioned gold (which I believe you still get.. I know i've done it a few times).

Unless they decided not to add this to live, then they probably didn't add it in correctly.

On another note, nice post Ben. To each their own... as long as they don't cause problems for others in the process. And that strongest guild competition did bring guilds closer... even though I didn't rank (due to lvl).. that was the first time you guys saw the Shadow! :laughks2:

Aye to that mate, PnC has made many friends since this contest has started.

This Contest didn't matter about most foes taken down,
it was about teamwork and spending time with other Pirates and guildmates!

The problem with this is that their AFK code is faulty.

I shoot cannons with my mouse. If im at cannon for several minutes, my pirate goes afk, even when I am at the controls moving back and forth and up and down via the mouse (not AFK, just not using K) I also choose cannon ammo by clicking the circles. I dont use a key except shift to start, and esc to finish.

AFK really means Away From Keyboard because quite ironically, a dynasty created by a mouse, ignores the mouse.

For our guild the strongest guild competition brought us closer together, we were all killing skeletons and while doing this mundane task having a great time chatting and joking in guild. Mates that did not really ever talk with each other were. It encouraged teamwork. Hey it brought me closer with the BBK!!!
I learned never to steal RUM from LIZZY!!! (Bad Idea)
I actually got onto open instead of test and hung out with some pirate friends for once!!!

I thank Big D for this competition!!!

Yes you still get stat points With AFK express as long as some one is sailing and not just standing there and they did fix a few things on they ship but you still get Stats points not rep points thats how some of these guilds are so high in daily ship sunk.

That's what my old guild did half of the time.

And thats the reason i left the guild be cause that basicly all they where doing is stats doing that kinda thing bores me.

I can do it but would need a break lol.

How do you defeat Warlord?

Quit your job... get a divorce and don't have any kids...

Bottom line - you have to LOVE POTCO and live there. Not bitter when I say this, just truth. It's simple math. At 1000+ an hour that's still SEVENTEEN BLOODY HOURS of your life EVERY DAY.

wmah 08-03-2009 03:54 PM

On the afk express. I have not been on board one of them myself. What I have seen though on the stats is if all the players on board will get individual credit for the sinks but if they are all in the same guild the guild only gets credit for the actual number of sinks. So the only thing gained is individual stats.

The guild actually does receive credit. One of my guilds that is ranked high in ships does this, but some of the people go AFK. I know another guild that is almost always first in ships, and they do the same.

The ship leaderboard is the total number of ships sunk by the guild members combined. As long as an individual gets credit, the guild does as well, afk or not. If you noticed it not matching up, i'm not really sure, but i've heard some say the over all leaderboard, and the daily are off by a day.

And here I thought all these guilds were actually earning their reputations.

So guilds are inflating their stats doing this just to be on the leaderboards?

How pitiful can pirates get?

They are actually earning their reputations, but not the reputation they think they are.

Why do people think these boards actually mean/prove anything?
If anything the tactics referred to here define it as I said earlier... a waste of time.

Points mean nothing, its all about character.

Sven Osymthe 08-03-2009 05:17 PM

Zep, to each their own. These guilds have earned their reputations. I said "but some of the people go AFK", I did not say all, I did not say how long. One person sails, others shoot. Sailors switch up, people still shoot. Some people go AFK for a break, that is what I was refering to.

The other guild I was talking about that does the same, they do what I mentioned above. People take a break, they go to the ship to help the guilds totals. Theres nothing wrong with that. Mainly because theres no cheating involved, and every guild is given the ability to do so.

The guilds that are high ranked do it to be on the leaderboards, but they also do it because they like seeing their guild name up there. It may seem like a waste of time to some, but people play the game differently. People like to be on the boards, its not pitiful, its just something they like to do.

Dr. Zeppers 08-03-2009 06:14 PM

Resorting to cheap tricks to inflate stats, is wrong.
Human nature perhaps, but wrong, that was my main point.
When I know im going AFK for awhile, I logout. Leaving my afk pirate on board while im not playing to boost my stats is a cheap trick. "Because it works" is a cheap reasoning behind it.
I realize everyones doing it.. just seems pitiful to me to inflate ones stats with basically false numbers.

Might as well use an invincibility glitch from level 1 - 40 leveling your pirate to level 40/mastered. No difference.

Added: These tactics basically belittle the purpose and meaning of the leaderboards.

Basil Dreadflint 08-03-2009 06:26 PM

Zep,

I agree with you, but not everyone else will.

If you check the leaderboards on a daily basis, you used to often see that there would be more than one pirate attached to the same Disney account, who not only were on the leaderboards, but had the exact same number of ships sunk. (Or within just a couple.)

This was the result of one person using two computers and LINKED accounts to log in two pirates at the same time. One would sail, and the other would just be a passenger on the ship. Both would get credit for all the ships sunk.

All they were trying to do was pad the scores. Making the leaderboards pretty much a joke.

And to answer SOS's comment. On DxD, the daily totals are up to date for the previous day for individuals. For guilds, they run a day behind. So Monday's stats for individual pirate's "enemies defeated" are for Sunday, but for guild totals, they are for Saturday.

BigJohn 08-04-2009 11:59 AM

I don't bother with Leaderboards, to me it just means someone has been dedicated to the game and earned their right to brag. Do I wish I had the time to play solidly, speak to fellow guild members, help with quests and sink everything in sight well yes! Its nice that Disney has encouraged the 'get thy name on the leaderboard', but for me another quest to do like black pearl would be better.

On the leaderboard topic, I truly don't expect myself or the ETC to ever hit #1 - but it's the chase that motivates the members to work together for a common cause.

Our own site, I list the Top 5 Killers and Sinkers almost daily and go out of my way to mention those who normally DON'T hit the list but sometimes make extra efforts.

And they enjoy comparing, and any special attention - but I give praise to my guildies who lend aid or come running when help is needed to. You're right - numbers are not the bottom line - but they help some pirates WANT to be here.

As for Eliza, I still have the long term goal of getting her into the Top 100 All-Time for Kills and Sinks - otherwise I'd never play her. A quest like that gives me reason to keep her coming back until something new comes along.
