It is sad because our guild was once a top 100 guild, always in the daily best categories. Pirates sought us out to join. But as members finished all the quests, beat the Pearl thing and mastered...they got bored and left. The second wave of folks were, shall we say, a bit immature. So now, if I log on there might be one other person on-line.

Anyway Jade, I would move on which is the exact opposite of what I am doing. But I am out of quests, out of stories and will (most likely) go basic very soon.

Thats exactly the way it is. There were a few newer members that would come on every now and then but they wouldn't chat at all, they would totally ignore you.
I stopped recruiting people after about two weeks of not seeing any other officers on. No one was there to help out.

I do have a lot of them on my friends list though, and I did post a message explaining the situation on their forum.

I wish you both the best of luck. Let me know if I can do anything to help out. I hate to see people quit playing the game for this reason. I have been through the same thing here as well. So hang in there maties.

What if its the other way around? Your guild members quitting for lack of content. Recruiting is getting harder.

Hey Skirata Clan, there will always been pirates coming and going from the game. Best thing you can do is try and make your guild fun to be in and keep your pirates interested.

I will freely admit I have only been on the game for only a year. I have yet to get my main pirate to lvl 50 fully mastered. I am not in any huge rush to do so. Some nights we lvl hard and some nights we talk and play. My main pirate has completed all but a couple of quests including the SVS ones. There are a couple I don't want to do right now. I don't feel like I am missing anything. Every time I get on there is something to do with me guildies. We help each other level and complete quests. Or just sail off and sink ships.

The level increases, the invasions and all the rest of the halloween content is really fun. I love the new ghost appearences and trying to figure that out as well. A ton of pirates have come back to the game because of the invasions. They have also been doing small game inprovements for months. The next storyline will come when it comes. I guess I am not worried about when it will come. I have plenty to do with me guildies and I really like the game!! Being lvl 50 fully mastered and all quests completed won't change that.

Some pirates do things differently. I know we had lvl 50 fully mastered pirates within the first week of it coming to live. Now some are complaining about having nothing to do again. So when the second storyline comes out and they blow through it in a week then what?

There are a lot of pirates that just want to beat the game. I know a lot of you have been waiting for almost 2 years for the new storyline. These kind of online games are not wired to be played like console games. There is much more emphasis on the social interaction between pirates. Guilds allow pirates with the same ideals to join together for help, fun and socialization. That is why it is so tough when guilds break down. It's like a family falling apart.

Wow, ok sorry for all that but that's how I feel. I really love POTCO as it is. Every time they add something its cool. I understand that there are pirates who are bored and have 4 lvl 50 pirates and nothing left to do. If they don't enjoy the game they are going to leave. Nothing you can do about that Skirata as it's thier decision to make. I think the majority of the pirates play for more than just content. I hope so at least, time will tell.

Dear Jade...

1..If you mostly play with your main pirate, don't take your main pirate out of the guild yet.

Play with your non-guild friends. There's no rush to switch to another guild. Just play with your non-guild friends to see what their guild is like. Let them know your old guild has become inactive and that you are looking for a new guild. If you ask, I'm sure your friend's guildmates would have no problem with you joining in on their activites.

2. If you play with all of your toons, take one of your alternate pirates out of the guild and try other guilds. It's not "guild-hopping" if you let them know you are looking for a guild. Most guilds have sort of a probationary period when you join up. If it's not a good fit, part on friendly terms and continue "guild-shopping."

You have no responsibility to stay in a dead guild. Keep people on your friends list, but find a guild that is active and fun.

Good luck...

Ex,

With all of the returning and new pirates, I'm sure you can find plenty of scurvy dogs looking to sign up to any guild you start. But, an invite will always be there for you to join the Elite Thieves as well.

I joined a new guild on test. My old guild was made up of the ghosts of my live server guild. So I changed. I am having trouble adjusting.

It's not them, it's me. (Anyone ever hear THAT line before?) But I chatted with people and played with them since like June of '08. I knew the names of their kids, where they worked and what they did in their spare time.

It is sort of weird but in some ways I felt a very real attachment to these people. I just don't plan to invest that much any more.

jade i would like to invite you to join Rage's Mauraders ( all info in the link ), but mainly we're a fun, privateering, 150 + members, 1 year old, quality before quantity of members, guild....

Captain Whale 10-26-2009 12:14 PM

Glad you found a guild Ex8404.

I know what you are saying though, been through that a few times. The last time the company closed out the game with little warning. They were yer second family mate, that's the real treasure in this game. Friends, only natural that you sould feel the way you are right now. Give it time and make a few friends. If it's not a good fit for you keep looking until you find the right one. Don't close yerself totally off though mate.

I of course second Eliza's invite if ye ever want to come to the live side.

Cheer's and good fortunes mate,

Captain Whales
