Not only that. It gives huge Rep and Notoriety. POF's own Angel 4 Ever reached level 16 just by fishing.

My brother was a little less than 3/4 of the way to lv 43, and leveled up to 43 almost completely on fishing.

My favorite method is cheating in blackjack. That is probably the fastest method, so long as you have adequate cheat cards. My live pirate does. My test pirate doesn't. Still, there isn't much of a reason for my live pirate to build up gold because the clothing I want is found in Loot drops, there are no weapons worth buying for my live pirate, and I already have two war frigates and a war sloop.

i would give up all my famed for blade of the abyss but fishing does give the most gold just fish for the whitish sharks and you will make millions or for legendary fish specially on double gold weekends

Fishing and catching sharks is a good way to get gold!

I love to plunder ships for the camaraderie. We all get gold and loot together. Fun.

But if you want to get gold fast, Edgemenace is right. There is no comparison. Blackjack.

Once you learn to cheat at Blackjack, then realize every ace and facecard are worth about 500 gold each, you won't debate this issue again. You want to play it solo and you want to sit to the right of the dealer (so you join the table from the opposite end... don't ask me why). You want to always go for blackjack, and if that's not possible, 21. After you make about five grand, quit. Switch servers then try again. The reason for this is when you get caught cheating (and you will, expect it) you lose all your winnings up to that point.

Time it. I tell people at the poker table when I sit down to blackjack, to time me as I make 5000 gold. It's never more than a few minutes. It's many MANY times faster than plundering.

Watch what cards are played, because if the exact ace or face card (check the suit) is already played, don't use it. You will go to jail for stupidity if you do that. Nothing you can do if the dealer pulls up your cheat card, but at least you don't have to visit jail by being dumb. You will visit jail from time to time because of the dealer but still you make gold super fast even if you visit jail.

All that said, join Jason Trueshot on my gold plundering runs... we can have fun AND make gold that way, just not nearly as fast. But fun is fun. Sometimes you just need gold fast. For that, nothing beats Blackjack. (don't talk to me about gold exchange in poker... yes, that's faster, but somebody has to give up gold there... in blackjack, nobody loses)

Oh, and let me give credit where credit is due. Edward Edgemenace taught me the Blackjack way to make gold. I bought a war sloop two days ago (to help Ed with a quest) and I am at max gold today without even trying. I reset my points, spending 10,000 gold each time I do it, and never even think twice about spending that little gold.

But I usually just get up and sit back down after every hand. That way you never get caught. (Unless you screw up big time and play a card that the dealer or someone else has at that point)

BACK ON TOPIC: I agree with the guide, but it is more profitable to be the Captain... As long as you have a high toleration of stupidity....

I can make about 10k gold in about 15 to 25 min tops playing blackjack with the right cards of course
