You might have an issue with current celebrity names. However I know of more than a few pirates named after real people, and many many after real pirates, which D specifically says is not allowed. I also personally have names of copyrighted characters as some of my pirates. In fact I wouldn't doubt that somewhere there is a copyrighted Kat O'hara, despite I got it right off their list.

All in all it's really in who is monitoring the names the day you make the pirate, and whether or not it ever gets reported. D is just weird sometimes. We choose to play, so we get to learn to live with the D logic. ;)
