Depends, War frigates are good for a person who likes big crews because of all the canons it has on it, but war galleons are good for a person who likes to sail alone because of its strong armor and more broadsides. War sloops are my favorite because they are so fast, small, an manuverable that I can escape enemy fire easily.

rupert 09-08-2008 12:26 AM

They are both good but the war frigate is a bit better

The war galleon is better for money and cargo. The war frigate is better for killing bigger ships. The war galleon is easier to hit because it is larger. What I like about the war frigate tha you don't have in a war galleon is the cannons in the front so if you have a crew they can shoot at the ship infront of them, and what ship you are going for.:piratewheelgo2:

I prefer War Frigate for: Helping people with quests, SvS (Privateer), helping people lvl up, and ranking on the leaderboards. :)

War Galleon for: Plundering, helping people plunder. (lol)

icemage 09-09-2008 12:26 AM

Whnever I do crew searching its always galleon..

77sfan 09-23-2008 11:54 PM

I don't care what anyone says, I prefer my war sloop over all of em.

Dr. Zeppers 09-24-2008 12:00 AM

The War Galleon IMO in the long run does better than the War Frigate.

The firepower/broadside differences between these too are not that major. Don't make a difference in the long run.

The amount of cargo can however make a difference when having to keep re-launching.

Also a War Galleon is better for questing, as you can pick up MORE of your quest items before having to port. Pirates go sailing, not short fishing trips (those are for fishermen!)

IMO the only reasons for a War Frigate often gets voted on is to help out those that have problems with sailing and need the extra firepower/strength to survive.
That and to accomodate large crews... I dont see any other real advantages to a salty sailor.

Edit: War Frigate is probably better for SvS simply for the crew/armament/hull factors a little can go a long way in SvS.

Mr.LoveLocket 09-24-2008 12:38 AM

i use WF for sailing only bc hull is better/ but i love WG

The only significant difference between them in SvS is the "hit box" - the area you have to aim at to hit. For a war galleon, since it is much larger than any barn, you simply have to fire a cannon in any direction, to hit it. In SvS, that is a liability. :-)

Why?
a) It's far faster than the War Galleon- If you don't believe me, I'll race you.
b) It's stronger.
c) It's great for if you have large crews.
d) It's also great if you're sailing alone, as I do frequently, due to the many cannons there are, & so close to the steering wheel, I sunk the Behomoth single handedly in a War Frigate.
e) The front cannons are great.
f) The broadsides are more powerful.
g) More manoeuvrable
Not to mention the fact that (other than the light sloop) it owns the SvS field. =]

I used to like the War Galleon best, but really, after getting a war frigate, I've found the only benefit it has to having a frigate is the amount of plunder you can have.

Im saving up for a ship. I read this, and im getting the war frigate!

Lol

If the reason isnt because your a SvS fan, then the only reason anyone would want a War Frigate is because its strength/firepower (which a good sailor doesnt require outside of SvS). Everyone REALLY wants the more hull/firepower and uses other reasons that dont really hold up against the other choices as a means of justifying thier decision. The cargo a War Galleon carries in my opinion is by far a better advantage. The difference between 400-500 gold and 800-900 gold hauls. I own both, and drive the War Galleon. Matter of fact, on one pirate I have 2 War Galleons, and 1 War Frigate.

"Captain, our War Frigate is full we need to head to port! Too bad too, theres a Death Omen on the horizon."

"Nay crewpirate, weve got a War Galleon now, and have some extra cargo space fer what that Death Omen may be a haulin fer Jolly Roger lets go sink her and find out.. .arrrrr"

To each his own though. Plunder ends up being the primary use of a ship (other than SvS) and your shorting yourself a few hundred gold a trip easily with a War Frigate.

It depends what youre sailing for..
If youre sailing for rep, and to destroy war ships, its the war Frigate
if youre sailing for $$ and cargo, its the war galleon

I can think of at least one exception to this, me. I prefer the Frigate over the galleon because the frigate is faster and more maneuverable. Just as I prefer a sloop over both the frigate and the galleon for the same reasons. If I see my prey off in the distance I will catch it in a sloop, I'll probably catch it in a frigate, maybe I'll tag it with some lightening and get it to come to me in a galleon but catch it in a galleon? Only if it's coming my way anyway .

Of course you know according to the strict rules of Murphy's law you will not see that Death Omen until your hull is full regardless of your cargo capacity. :)

Fun and adventure is the primary use of a ship, gold is just a way of keeping score. Okay, transportation goes in there somewhere too.

Now, now... that can happen on a WG just as easily as a WF... ;)

Dr. Zeppers 09-24-2008 08:41 PM

Ok Max, but understand that in the process of folks "selling the War Frigate" they put down my favorite the War Galleon all the time. Turn about is fair play. "Looks" is going to be an entirely subjective opinion (sorry think the frigates look ugly!!!).

I guess I dont need "faster" or more "maneuverable". Ive always mastered sailing before I master any other skill on my first 4 pirates, always with Galleon class. Ive seen tests of ship times that will give the "light sloop" the only real significant difference in ship speed. I have no problems with speed in my War Galleon. There is seldom any NPC ship (of any class) that can outrun me. Only twice have I had some aggravated insane Reaper move too fast, and it was always in circles and never affected me anyhow.. hehe.

I think it comes down to the Captains preference.
When I go sinking ships, I dont run back and forth everytime im full, I achieve my goal first, be it a quest, or leveling cannons, etc. Since that timer was removed, I no longer get sunk from that, used to all the time. Never had a problem with manuevering, speed, or empty pockets. Had to move gold around just to participate in the double gold event, because most my big pirates pockets are full.
I stay out until im done sinking ships, the more my ship held before getting full the better.

I abore SvS because you have to be a glitch master, or anti-glitch master for any kind of a "fair" fight. Players willingness to use such crutchs paints a pitiful picture in that category.

And I give up on defending the best ship/class the War Galleon ;)
More firepower/hull and pseudo useless front cannons always win out because its cool.
Hey I do have a War Frigate on each of my pirates, I wouldnt short myself one, just never drive the berg.

LOL! I ever see Leanrdo De'Caprio (or whatever his name is) trying to 'fly' at the front of my ship - I'll boot him off the plank! :D
