Yeah sometimes people look like they are having a hard time. So I decide to help them. Then... they like shout in caps like DON'T STEAL MY REP OR I WILL REPORT YOU! Then I say I was just trying to help. Then they say go away...

I agree with Zeppers on this. Now if you were attacking a mob and then someone does this, but then they get all of the experience, then we would have a problem. In some games (like back in EQ), this was the case. Losing all of the exp (and loot) because someone kill stealing was a pain. But in PotCO, you do get your proportionate amount of rep/exp due to damage down. So you're really not losing anything. You just need to fight another mob.

I do find it a bit annoying on my baby pirate when I'm in my light sloop fighting bigger ships (galleons & frigates - not light class) and someone feels the need to "help" me. I give them a good fist shaking and find something else to sink. Now I just try to stay out of the waters between Tortuga and Port Royal. Too many Ferrets out there anyway.

There really is no such thing as rep stealing. Someone cannot steal from you what was not yours in the first place.

A player can be inconsiderate and continue to bother other players by attacking the same creatures, etc. Even relying on them when asked not to, etc. Still this isnt stealing anything, its showing a lack of consideration.

Many consider it "helping" the other person, so if you did not kindly ask the person to stop in the first place, it could just as easily be said your stealing reps from them. (if you use the "stealing" definition).

Standard pattern for a pirate.

Just starts out... leans on other pirates trying to get things done (advanced pirates call you a rep stealer)

Now your starting to get going, you still get help from other pirates, some enjoy helping, some call you a rep stealer.

Now your really going well, you have a grasp on the game, newer players are starting to use you to help them gain an advantage (you now call these individuals rep stealers).

As it get harder and harder to level, you get more and more angry at "rep stealers" (which you once were yourself).

Then you master your pirate, and suddenly its all about helping other people, and noones a rep stealer anymore.

A vicious cycle

Should rep stealers be punished? No, because we all at one time in the game did so ourselves.
You dont think you ever have? I believe anyone making such claim is a liar, that would mean they did absolutely EVERYTHING without ANY help from ANY other person, friend, spouse, or family member, guild member or by using any of thier accounts (ie more than one account). Everyone wants to think they are perfect, we are all far from it.

Your point has been made.
I put yes but thought the OP was talking about rep here on POF.
No, there is no such thing as rep stealing.
If someone is fighting an enemy with you they'll get a cut of the rep.(but if they don't fight the enemy then they will barely get any rep)
If someone is fighting an enemy with you and you don't want them to then change oceans if you really think there's such a thing as rep stealing.

I have battled enemies with four other people before and gotten 30 rep. Is that rep stealing?
No.

Humans always want to make other people think they're perfect.
The human raise is the least perfect raise in the entire world. The world gives us everything we need to lvie and what do we do? Destroy it. I'm sure it will only be a few hundred more years until the human raise kills itself off.

(I watch a lot of science programs)

You can steal rep here on the forums? hehe I'm curious, just how would one go about doing this?

I think everyone should exercise game etiquette and ask to crew up instead of barging in and killing everything which does take away points from the rest of the group. If the group says no thanks to crewing up, the person should not be offended and switch to another server where they can fight solo or with others. It's all about team work, however you need to respect other players at all times and look at things from their perspective. Sometimes it’s not your battle to fight and Pirates always have other things to do.

I was at KH last night working my grenades on a quiet server and a player, who apparently just got their staff, came in and starting killing my mob. It ticked me off at first, but then it was a contest to see who could get the mob first. I was throwing grenades faster then they could use their staff. It was just funny to me to watch them run over to the fence to use their staff, then run back to the spot and try to beat me to the punch.

Actually it turned into a game to me and made leveling grenades kinda fun. lol

Zep. You are 100% right. I fully agree.:dancetl6::buds:

I'm glad you had fun with what could have been a bad situation. Not to rub salt on an open wound, but did you happen to notice how much less rep you got per round when sharing? Sounds like you were having too much fun with it, to notice a minor detail like points per grenade.

I didn't notice most of the time, but the few times i did, it was down in the teens. My grenade level is 6, so i should have been getting pretty good reps from the mob. It did get on my nerves at first, but i didn't want to switch servers and have to come back to KH. Basically i just stayed until i ran out of ammo and to try to pev the person off.

Learn and grow.

When I first started playing, it looked like people needed help when there were so many pirates attacking an enemy. So I always rushed over to help. As you go along, you come to understand everything that Zep and Maximus detailed so well.
They are absolutely right.

I don't even know what we are talking about. I just go with the majority.

Deadeye_Andy 09-10-2008 12:00 PM

You know......in a way this is a rather funny subject.......

I mean IC your a P I R A T E ..........

It's all about stealing and betraying in the first place!! :laughks2:

OOC, I can understand someone getting upset about this. You're trying to level, and you feel robbed.

Well......welcome to the club. There are only so many servers out there, and lots and lots and lots and lots and LOTS of players.

At some point you're going to have to share......but there is good news.

All those Navy solders, and EITC Thugs, the ships, the skeletons, every thing RESPAWNS.

If you're playing POTC and you're in a rush........then you're playing the wrong game.

In an ideal world, everyone would play politely and be considerate of others. I went to a quiet server, sailed out to Kingshead because I wanted to work on my grenades, and I have to sail there of course.

There was someone already there.

Now, am I suppose to immediatly go "oops. Better find me another server." ?

how many servers do I go through before I finally find one where no one is at Kingshead?

Good Gosh people. That football team respawns quickly. Take turns! SHARE!

Not to mention that there are PLENTY of other places to go just on that island alone to take on and get rep points.

Or was it you kept wanting to do it the EASY way???

Last night I went back to Tormenta to take on Davy Jones's crew by myself. Yes I'm a bit low level to be there. Yes, I get my rear end handed to me on a regular basis there.

But that's just it, those guys are not push overs. They are not acting like dumb bots that don't know how to go around a fence.

Instead I'm having to think, take my time and consider stratagy on how to take them out. And I've even gotten a few of them.

Makes it worth the bucks I shell out each month to play this game.

I don't abide rude people, like the girl that asks me 15 times to be crewed up and won't take NO for an answer, or the guy that won't stop asking me to be their friend.

But I do have to say, if you're going to be on POTC, then ACT like a PIRATE. Last I looked, that's what we all are.

I have gone into kingshead on a busy server to just kill off a few soldiers to complete a quest. I went to the bust server for that reason others would be there and it will make it easy. But just trying to get one hit on a few of them is next to impossible when someone takes them all out with a staff. I ended up just doing the outer edge soldiers that were not in the pack. Once I got enough I left.

It is not stealing rep points and I see nothing for anyone to report. It is more like being a pirate and doing what pirates do best, look after themselfs first.
