Is there gonna be a weekly race?

well that's the goal swash. as we continue to have these races i am hoping we get positive feedback from those who participated. and with any hope people will see how fun they are and want to sign up.

so, i'll continue to put together race courses as long as people seem interested. of course everyone is encouraged to host races and make their own courses. variety as they say...

anyway, the course this week is particularly brutal...heh heh heh...so i look foward to sunday.

woa.. fill up twice, and no repairs... that will add a measure of difficulty to it for sure, especially on such a long haul!

Good luck to the captains in this one!
Still not sure if I can be on sunday morning or not.

mlratto 09-12-2008 02:39 PM

do you have what it takes?

that will add a measure of difficulty to it for sure

now why would i want to make an easy race zeppers?:sign0151:

i was able to make it through with a war sloop okay but received a fair amount of damage. this race is as much about survival as it is finishing first. with no full sail and ramming speed it puts a premium on sailing skill and tactics.

word of advice...use your camera angles to pick a good path especially when sailing through boiling bay.

regular class and light class may find the first 1/2 of this race particulaly challenging.

For light class races, we may need to allow repairs at Port Royal. Sinking shouldn't mean disqualification, it should mean you have to get back to the last checkpoint, before you sunk. (Honor system.) Running to Darby Drydock and repairing is itself a delay - it should be the captain's discretion as to wasting that time or not.

Ever since SvS, I've gotten absurdly good at nailing NPC ships with ramming speed. The "no ramming speed" is a wicked frustration. But obviously better than allowing it...race would just be too silly.

For the war class races, it might be hilarious to see a "victory lap" - all participants line up side by side forming a pirate wall, then bear down on (and sink) all NPC ships in from Hinterseas to Dead Man's Trough.

not mention time in jail, running to the shipwright, etc.

okay, just to show i'm not overly sadistic...for the light class race only, if sunk you may restart the race. If memory serves me i think you get sent to the jail on the island where you launched from. A stiff enough penalty i think.

and yes, you can repair at port royal.

Again, this will be for light class only

I did the course in the wee hours of the morning today, just to get my bearings. It's not that hard, long yes, hard, nah. LOL See yall there.

well done maximvs. your efforts are appreciated. you will now recieve a 2 second head start on everyone. ;)

Swash 09-13-2008 01:14 AM

Mlratto its not fair to give him a 2 second head start just because he helped you i know he put a lot of effort but its not fair to other racers.

Hes right Mlratto, that wouldnt be fair. If I may make a suggestion?
Penalize all racers (except Max) 2 seconds for not helping with the map. ;)

LOL sorry couldnt resist.

swash...if you haven't figured out my posts yet...most if the things i say are in jest. In a race that could take over 30 minutes a 2 second head start....well, you do the math. LOL

swashbuckler II 09-13-2008 05:52 PM

well that 2 second head start can saty like that a 2 second lead for most the race lol

Maximvs 09-13-2008 10:17 PM

I didnt get to use the 2 seconds anyway... as unfortuantly expected my step-parents did show up and ate all my food then chatted for hours about nothing exciting...

They could of least brushed up on pirate trivia and made it entertaining :D (they are good people though - just lousy timing...)

Sorry I didn't make this weeks races. Glad the map is to your liking and I'm looking forward to next weeks! (maybe that Sunday Evening Race would be better for me - being stuck WAY out here on the east coast... ;) )

swashbuckler II 09-14-2008 04:40 PM
