Good idea Seaford, can so and so teleport to you?
And what do you mean it wont help, Mac? Everyone tps to you randomly, dont you want it to stop?? or...does no one tp to you randomly?

My guild mates, crew members, and friends can already teleport to me. Restricting friends from teleporting to you....well if I did that they obviously shouldn't be on my list.

However random people who are five feet away from me never teleport to me. Never had a random person teleport to me out of nowhere before so I wouldn't know. They can't teleport to me to another island if they're not on my list so the "restricting randoms from teleporting to you" seems like a waste of the developers time.

And restricting guild mates, crew members, and friends will give them hints that I don't want them on my list. I never make friends who shouldn't be on my list.

I wholeheartedly agree that this would be a GREAT addition to this game. The options that is, not necessarily the prompt. Ste the permissions the same way you do on sea and everything's peachy.

As for friends being allowed to TP to you anytime THEY want, I find that to be presumptive and rude behavior. Even if they are friends.

Red Nations 10-28-2008 07:28 AM

I agree with Bartholomew above that teleporting to other players without asking is very rude behavior. Back when I first began playing this was a serious problem and not knowing any better then I was allowing just about anyone who hit me with a friend invite to friend me. Turned into a scenario where I couldn't even launch my ship without having a half dozen idiots that I didn't even know teleporting on board and either getting me sunk or trying to take over the ship. Ended up weeding out the bulk of them from my list and becoming extremely selective on who was allowed on my list. I still do not like having people teleport to me without first asking permission and it doesn't matter if they are guildmates or friends. The only exception is my fiance who is also a POTC player.

I have three pirates all in different guilds one of them a GM another a second in command of guild and the third an officer in guild. All three guilds have strict rules regarding TP without asking permission. One of the few things that actually has an improvment with the recent changes was giving captains the ability to block TP access to their ships. I am also in favor of extending this ability to our pirates while they are on land.

I also agree with Bartholomew and I think this suggestion is a good idea.

I would never presume to tp to someone without first asking or being asked and I expect the same consideration from others. I pay to play for my own enjoyment and not to be constantly available to others the entire time I'm online. Sometimes I like to play alone. Sometimes we have just the right number for the current activity. Whatever the reason, every player should have the right to limit access to themselves. Currently if someone tp's to me without asking or being asked they get removed from my friends list immediately. This suggestion would offer a less drastic option.

If I lag out and was previously somewhere, then I do tp without asking. I did it to Bart the day of the party... that I crashed uninvitedly...

Good point. There are special circumstances and it makes a difference what understanding there is between friends. Most of the friends I have now, I wouldn't care much if they did tp w/o asking because I know normally they are courteous and I don't have to worry about it being a habit. Also there are those who don't care if people just drop in. I just think those of us that do care should have the option to prevent it.

Can (friendname) Teleport to you?
Yes No

but that might be too much work...

I like this idea a lot more, the other one just seems pointless. I mean all you do is run away from the person doing it.

Red Nations 11-01-2008 06:38 AM

Back when I first started playing I had a glitch in my game install that left me stranded on Padres whenever I ended up there, Couldn't launch a ship from there or teleport to a friends ship that happened to be too close to Padres. The glitch also effected my Teleport totem screen leaving me with a black screen, no map and no working teleport totems. My only way to get off of Padres was to teleport to someone in another location. Even then I never did this without asking and recieving their permission. I even had a couple friends who would go AFK in a safe location when they quit playing for the day just in case I got stranded on Padres and needed to teleport out. I've since reinstalled the game changes video cards and gotten rid of those glitches.

I have never liked it when people teleported to me without asking. There are only a couple people in the game who have my permission to teleport to me anytime and they are very close and trusted friends. Most cases when I've had people teleport to me without asking, they haven't bothered to ask where I was or what I was doing before teleporting to me, Often times they would interupt whatever I was doing, expecting me to drop what ever I was doing at the time and go help them with something else or take em plundering on my ship, which puts them into the uninvited crew category. Other times I have been leveling or healing others while they leveled only to have someone teleport to me ininvited and then demand that I heal them as well which weakens the healing I was doing for others. I consider it extremely bad manners to teleport without first asking permission. Poeple who do this to me are told the first time not to do it again. If they continue to do it after that I dump em off my friend list. Its also a rule in two of my three guilds and repeated violations result in the offender being kicked out of the guild.
I think a teleport permission control even something as simple as a yes/no option for all teleport both on land and at sea would be a definate improvement to the game.

That idea is actualy worse I think, because it requires that person to be there. As far as I'm concened, nothing need be done.

Deadpool 11-01-2008 09:16 PM

If I may add to the yes votes.

On one of my pirates I was being annoyed by a guildmate who would reapeatedly TP to me and send off friend invites back to back after I said no 100 times. I went to my ship and there I was harrased by a wave of whisper sounds but no whispers. Luckily I have a mute button.

Why I didn't just kick him? He's an officer.
Why I didn't tell my GM? He was offline.
Why I didn't leave the guild? My friend was the GM.

So please MTV... oops. So I hope this at least gets consideration.

League 11-01-2008 09:27 PM

Just log off then. Why play a game if you get annoyed like that--seems like the polar opposite of fun.

Deadpool 11-01-2008 09:31 PM

I eventually did. Then switched to another pirate.

League 11-02-2008 01:53 AM

I had a funnier solution in mind. Would it that it were that I was able to say it nicely here, I would!

dangerousden 11-03-2008 01:22 PM

I think this sounds like a good idea. If you have a lower spec machine, someone TPing to you in mid battle with a seabeard on Tormenta freezes your machine and you end up dead, then the seabeard turns on the (usually) noob and kills them too. So two people are dead, and it could have been avoided by simply asking.

One of our guild rules is to ask before you TP. This covers most problems, and they usually get a yes anyway.
