My second Grace made it to level 8 tonight along with the cannon, sword, etc. Alas, just like my first Grace who was a level 10, I can no longer log into them. So, look on the horizon for Grace 3! At least she can go in the forests! Perhaps they are testing to see just how fast we can get through the quests so they can be sure they are not too easy. That is what beta is all about, or so I have heard!

Huzzah...er...Ahoy Mateys! Finally made it into these forums. So I can post freely.

I was having problems logging in after the May 18th update. It turned out the solutions were two things that helped.

First, I updated my graphic card drivers AND upgraded to Microsoft .NET software (currently at version 3.0). Before I did this, I would NOT even get to the Character Selection screen. So try those two things first.

Second, it seemed that my original Main character, Will Greasefish, was corrupted in the server database. When I selected him and and tried to enter the game, it would crash to the login screen and the crash report webpage would pop up. I read the log file that appears in the bug report when you crash. I would suggest everyone to look at it because it will tell you where the program stopped working. My log stated that the Quest DNA had problems at the server and it closed the client program. After I sent in the crash report, my main character was fixed and available. So the Devs DO read those crash report...please keep sending them.

See you around the forums. Keep the Sail side up and the Keel side down!

For some reason, my game still continues to close after it loads all the phases. A window pops up saying that Pirates of the Caribbean Online closed unexpectedly and whether I would like to send an error report or not. Anyone have a solution for this? This problem began right after the May 11th update.

Dolnor 05-26-2007 06:59 AM

Lady Annie,

When the Microsoft Error dialog pops up, always answer Ok. Microsoft will send the error log to the Devs which helps them resolve problems.

When the POTC Bug/Error webpage pops up, there is a box showing some text below where you enter your text describing your problem. That text will show what caused the program to stop working. Scroll through it and look towards the end of the text. Look for 'error' or when the client closed. That will describe what problem caused the client program to crash. I don't know how the Mods would feel if you posted the end of the text log here so we can help diagnose your issues??!!

As for Microsoft .Net software, I had to re-install it because I have an ATI video card. When I uninstalled it, cleaned up the drivers with Driver Cleaner, and downloaded the new drivers...my .NET software (which comes with Windows XP) got hosed by the ATI driver installation program. It is a known problem with the ATI Catalyst Driver installation program.

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a software component that can be added to or is included with the Microsoft Windows operating system. It provides a large body of pre-coded solutions to common program requirements, and manages the execution of programs written specifically for the framework. The .NET Framework is a key Microsoft offering, and is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform.

The pre-coded solutions that form the framework's class library cover a large range of programming needs in areas including: user interface, data access, database connectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric algorithms, and network communications. The functions of the class library are used by programmers who combine them with their own code to produce applications.

Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment that manages the program's runtime requirements. This runtime environment, which is also a part of the .NET Framework, is known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR provides the appearance of an application virtual machine, so that programmers need not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will execute the program. The CLR also provides other important services such as security mechanisms, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together compose the .NET Framework. The framework is intended to make it easier to develop computer applications and to reduce the vulnerability of applications and computers to security threats.

Thank you very much for the great help! As for the message, this is what I found: :display(error): Window wouldn't open; abandoning window. I attempted to install the Microsoft .NET software.
