Ok, I'm a parent and my kids play potco. The 2 of them them play well and respect others. I was forced to talk to the youngest once about firing on other players ships but thats it.This seems to be my experiance with most of the younger crowd. That being said as a parent I maybe more patient when dealing with the kids. I have more issues with the T for teen crowd being rude and starting problems so a higher rating would do little from my viewpoint.

As far as content like Davy said if you dont want them seeing it thats your duty as a parent to control them not disneys. Its a pirates life mate and it aint pretty all the time.

I agree, a bit.
The game is mostly violence anyway, and you can get around the chat filter.
I think Disney makes the game seem like a bit of a childs daycare, and safe.
If this came into issue, and actaully worked, SO many players would be gone, maybe even your friends? In reality, it would never work..Kiddies would still play.

If you look at the ESRB ratings descriptions, there is NO way this game earns a E rating. If they follow the ESRB ratings it has to be rated "T For Teens."

Quote:

Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.

Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.

Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

I don't want Disney to change anything. Just thought I'd muddy the waters a little.

I never really understood why pirates can't shoot soldiers. I know that Disney is avoiding "gun violence" for the younger kids but it doesn't really make all that much sense. You can't shoot a soldier because "guns are bad, M'Kay." But you can hack them up with swords and daggers, blow them to pieces with grenades, poison them, burn them alive with fire or acid, drown them or kill them with dark magic. Just don't shoot them.

I believe there was a little "diplomacy" involved with Disney getting thier "E10+" rating.
It obviously doesnt fit the content of the game itself.

Agreed zep i think they made it E10+ just to open to a wider demo graph of people. Which they shouldn't have.

I would tink the game if fine for now. But, sometimes I do think this game should be Rated T since the 3 movies are PG-13.

so a video game packed with profanity and adult content should be rated E, and its just the parents responsibilty on whether their kids should play it or not? what if the parent had no idea it was innapropriate for kids because there was no 18+ rating? they just threw it in the cart hoping their kid would stop bugging them about it... games are rated for a reason... excuse me if i sound rude, but im just trying to make a point

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the real issue isn't the kids playing, it's us having to follow the rules/guidelines aimed at a younger audience, especially in a game already centered around violence, gambling, and alcohol. My personal grief with the system is the chat. I don't at all condone swearing in the game, but there are SIMPLE words (directional terms, for example) that won't go through the chat. To me, Disney seems to be pretending to have a children's game here, when any scrutinizing eye can see that it clearly should not be for children. In a game centered around violence, gambling, and alcohol, it seems ridiculous to have such a censored chat.

Since I'm going down in a ball of flames on several posts today - might as well add one more! :D

Since the Gaming Industry is self regulated (not like the movie industry where ratings are governed) and stores have no need to enforce the code (unlike theaters where they require proof of age) - The Rating of this game should of always been T for Teen like the movies... but as Zep mentioned and other posted above - since its wide open and Disney wanted the bigger audience to sell to - they can basically give (or get easily) the rating they wanted...
