It must be a pretty major fix for test to be down this long. Has this every happened before? (Just curious)
Not since I've been on the test server. Almost a year I think. But this is a major update...

Hang in there. You can always play on an Open Server... :bookishfj7: Or read a book... :degen: ...or take fencing lessons... :psmiley27: ...or watch a scary movie... :laughks2: ... or a funny movie... :psmiley35: ...or learn to whistle Beethoven's Ninth... :william: ...or pretend you're a Super Ball. Does anyone remember Super Balls?

On a serious note. And I just started thinking about this and felt that it deserved its own post.

Sure, the test server has been down for almost three days now. Big deal. I spent some time on open. Something I haven't done in a long time.

So we are without the test server. Free accounts and most of us understand what comes with game testing. Bugs and glitches and fails and slow-downs and on and on and on.

But, and this is my comment, complaint, criticism, whatever... Where is the Two-Way Communication? I am not saying that the Dev Team owes us anything but how many testers are getting discouraged because they get no feedback on their input? A simple, "Thanks for hanging in there guys" would be enough, wouldn't it? Or even better, a forum on the test web site could solve almost all of the frustration people are obviously feeling.

Who wants to play and level and slog through new updates peeking in every corner, trying to set every trap and looking for every programming error they can and never be told, "Thanks?"

Just a thought...

EDIT: Thanks to all who PMed me. I have my answer so I took out the part where I asked. Again...THANKS TO ALL!

MacIronhawk 03-29-2010 02:48 PM

Any time I send in a bug report all does is thank me for my feedback. Half the time the bugs I report never get fixed.

One way communication with the developers would be nice. Just so I could type, "This is the bug, it's annoying, please fix it." A human response would make going on the test server more enjoyable. A thank you here and there would be nice.

Also, they fail to give us every bit of information that comes with updates. Did anyone remember seeing a post where someone picked up a navy hat? Does that mean we can wear a whole navy uniform? No idea, because they didn't tell us.

From the grog blog today
ADMIN GM Cayman Trench
Ahoy Robert Calicomorris! We are well aware of this issue on Test and its temporary inaccessibility. The recent inventory expansion is still a work in progress. Please have patience as we continue to work tirelessly to make it Pirate perfect for all of ye residents of the Caribbean.

Test Server Closed?

when I try logging into the test server I get "SiteClosed" is it down for anyone else?

tried it on 3 different computers

MacIronhawk 03-29-2010 04:21 PM

The test server is currently closed. There are two huge bugs known right now. One makes it so you can't put your cloths back on and another so your cloths and weapons completely disappear. You're literally robbed of all possessions.

Next time it's back up there should be a couple of fixes.

Jamesvsthekraken 03-29-2010 04:46 PM

So is it gonna be back up today like this afternoon? :'( :( :/

James. Take a deep breath...My guess is NO. Test servers won't be back up today. But it's going to be OK. If you need a POTCO fix, go play on the open servers.

I am not a programmer but this feels like a very small problem, like a broken line of code, that set off a cascade reaction until the whole thing spun out of control. I would imagine that it is harder to find this sort of problem than it is to fix a giant one. Like looking for a needle in a haystack.

But I might be COMPLETELY wrong...

As long as they fix this issue, it shouldn't matter how long it takes to fix the problem. Re-opening test before this issue is fixed could cause even more problems, which would be a huge set back for the game. The live servers are where we're supposed to play the game, where as the test servers, we are helping the developers by testing, trying our best to help them prevent these issues from spreading to live.

I agree, given what has happened, there may be a minor problem causing a huge issue. The first day of the update, everything was fine. Everyone had what they collected, and what they previously owned. After a while game crashes became more frequent, and this bug came into being. So i'm just gonna guess that the code was fine, then something went wrong with a tiny portion of it when it was applied to the game.

yeah, I don't think communicating with players on Test is much of a priority anymore. Seems that it's been like this since Privateering went live. There always has been a fair amount of ambiguity with the Release Notes. They didn't even update the Test Launcher Game News with a closed blurb, though they did update the virtually unused POTCO Test Server web page

goldenpirates 03-29-2010 11:05 PM

It's back up! Let's see what they fixed for now :piratear:

Big Bad Wolf 03-29-2010 11:16 PM
