It's true. Though naturally, I'd just stay quiet and not say a thing...
All of that could have been avoided if we just switched servers, though...

My guild and I caught up in an incident right yesterday.

It was right after we did our Victory Shark Fleet, and we were dancing out on the beach of the French Island, having a small conversation and gathering friends for a game of Hide and Seek Tag, minding our own. Of course, this one guild keep coming up to us (one by one, so it seems they have a pattern down by now) and calling us names, saying bad stuff about us, challenging us to SvS, stuff like that. We, naturally, ignore them, but yet they persist. So, I go with my reflex: kill them with kindness. I attempt to start a conversation with them, and they seem like nice people when you get to know them. Everything is all and well, aye?

Wrong. Not even 10 seconds in to our game, one of our guildies shouts out in crew chat that he was being chased around/harrassed by that same guild. So, Del transforms in to Papa Grizzly mode and goes to help our dear guildmate.

I confront the guild, who, naturally, deny that they were doing anything wrong, after my guildmate had told them repeatedly to stop bothering him. I ask one of them to bring me their Guildmaster so I can have a chat with him, but lo and behold, the guy I'm talking to is the Guildmaster. What a way to set an example for your guild, eh?

So, I start telling the guy and their guild off (because once I warm up, I might as well be tearing down islands one by one,) about how rude and immature it was to do such a thing. And what is their GM's response?

"Let's go War Sloop 1 on 1." Yeah.

Now, I was tempted to whip out the VS and send the mate to Davy Jones's Locker, but I was trying to stay away from their level as far as possible. And really, who needs a virtual competition to decide whose the better person. Pu-lease.

In the end, my guild and I reported all of them, and headed off to another server and go do the invasion. Now, I know some of you would disagree how I handled things. That I shouldn't have gone out of my way to teach those mates a lesson in R-E-S-P-E-C-T. But no. I had to do what was right, and stand up for my mates. I'll be darned if I ever let somebody walk over my guild like their simply garbage. It's one thing to stand up for yourself, but it's another thing to stand up for the people you care about.

P.S. Ask my guild and I. Whenever somebody calls us noobs, we respond, "We're noobs and we're proud!"

Yeah, I remember that, those guys were really really awful to chips, or at least I think they were harassing chips. I wonder why those guilds feel the need to be jerks to everyone they see.

Maybe the reason people are rude to me because there jealous i'm so coolio! :D ( Or because I caused a lil bit of trouble, but that's another story! )

When i first ventured into this game i had the thought of its just a game and nobody will care how i act i was rude and i apologize to my guildmaster everytime she comes online for what i did in her guild i was a ruckuss and caused problems everyday... It was hard to pull your self outta something like that but now i hope ppl don't see me as they once did because i've tried hard to earn the reputation i have on this game now. Just thought i'd share hehe

Captain Del, you guys were sailing all the different Victory Sharks near the SvS islands yesterday? I was doing PVP when a group of about five or six ships called "Victory Shark" made a line of ships right in the middle of the SvS islands, almost like a wall, making it more difficult to play, because light sloops of French and spanish could get through, but bigger ships had to go around, and I was sunk five times with a crew near the wall of ships, because they were in the way.

If you guys want to make a wall of ships, you should expect the worst from other guilds, who were probably harassing you because they were upset at your wall of ships in the way.

By the way, you reported all of them? Maybe you should have checked all of their chat, because if they didn't say anything that could get them reported, reporting a group of people could be seen as an attack on another guild to Disney.

And ignoring and reporting should always be done AS SOON as one person makes a nasty comment. They're not worth getting into a conversation, and as soon as you notice something wrong just tell everybody, ok, let's head to a different server, we don't want trouble with these guys. Confronting people in an online game seems childish when there's an ignore button in the palm of your hands. If I had one in real life I'd use it all the time.

Indeed we were. However, if you see a wall of ships in your way, it would be a better idea to stay away from it, then to sail right next to it. After all, you dont drive your car in to stone walls, do you? Same concept. However, I do apologize for the inconvience that it caused. We were trying to take an indirect poke at those who take SvSing way to seriously, but we never intended for ships to actually take it in directly.

Actually, those mates were already there by the time we ported. When we showed up and started our little party on the beach, they kept trying to but in to our conversation. Besides, how would they know who we were in the first place? Based on the way they talked about our guild, I don't think they've ever seen us before.

The reporting was also based on the chat. Half of the time they keep whispering to me "Your an arr arrr you garr." So, I think that could be classified as rude/inappropiate.

I realize that's what I should have done in the first place, and I accept the faults I made that day. But your judgement changes based on the situation. Also, I had instructed my members to leave the area (as I do whenever conflicts arise,) but they wanted to stay behind to support me. After all, that's what guilds are for - you help me, I help you.

charle88 08-22-2010 07:22 PM

Agreed.

Two days ago during the "countdown phase" of an invasion, I saw a guy picking on another player because their pirate was small in stature. He kept telling here that she was going to die quickly because she was small, even though she was a level 43. I tried to tell that pirate that height didn't matter in the game, and to stop picking on her. Then he turned around and said,"UR a fail", then called me a noob. Even now I wonder why I didn't go ahead and report him.

So my advice is, if you see a player picking on another player, even if it isn't you, go ahead and report him/her.

WitchdoctorDan 08-22-2010 07:40 PM

I usually don't put up with such things. I don't argue with these rude players, just say "Please don't be rude" and they usually get mad right then. Then I report them and ignore them, and do whatever I was doing. My friends and guildies call me "Colonel" because I'm very strict on this issue.

In fact, a few hours ago someone who was in my old guild (whom certain people, including myself, left and made a new guild) came up to me and my guildmates and shouting hateful things about myself, our GM, and our new guild. Then the other person had their guildies TP to them. Big mistake. I told everyone in Guild Chat about it and EVERYONE online TPed and gave them a piece of their mind. I had already reported the other guild, and sat there without saying anything. They then PVPed us and they got one kill off of the GM's baby pirate.

All in all, I don't let things like this bother me. In fact, they somewhat amuse me. They give us a good laugh or two.

Totally, as rude as they can be, I can easily get a laugh. Especially when they come back with some comment that makes no sense... the other day I saw some guy picking on another person, calling him the noob guildmaster. I came in and told him to quit being rude, and he started trying to say that the other person called him a noob first... it was kinda funny, because I could tell he was struggling to figure out some way to make him look like the good guy, when he obviously was not.

ex8404 08-22-2010 09:06 PM

What would be wrong with just ignoring the rude person? They can't touch you, they can't take your stuff and they can't even follow you if you don't say anything.

I used to overreact to rudeness also. But one day I tried a new tactic. I completely and utterly ignored the other person. What I discovered is that a rude person's reaction to being ignored is WAY more entertaining than matching rude behavior with rude behavior.

Works for me anyway...

Completely agree. While I used to take action in Toontown to rude players, one day I just got sick of it, and to my amazement, I got about five minutes of entertainment from someone that I just decided to ignore.

Today, even, in PVP I had an encounter with someone not too friendly. Ignoring them was entertaining, and I took screenshots of everything he said. It made for a good laugh.

But I understand how hard it is to ignore people sometimes, but once you can, it's hilarious when you see what they say.

Was there someone else with a staff with blue force field? If so that glitch has to be fixed ASAP.

Again, its a little thing, but it still annoys me...

Agreed. I have a solo pirate and instead of hitting "Ignore all" the first time around, I always make a point to just say "No, thank you, I like keeping one pirate solo" or something to that effect. (Most of the time I have found this is a sufficient answer, amazingly enough. But of course there are those who get very snippy with me and throw around names and such.) I feel that the manners I was taught for the real world should also apply to POTCO. =)

And I don't think the rudeness will get any better as time goes by...I understand that many of the people in the game are a younger set, but that doesn't mean it's voided the second I log on to what is essentially an anonymous game. But then again, it makes me wonder how the person is outside of their pirate facade...if they choose to act as rude in person as some of the people I've run across in the game. :piratetongueor4:

Yes, there was one. And earlier during the Tortuga Invasion, I went to jail, and there were more people trying to knock out the other players, again. I'm guessing this happens alot. -_-
