They can see/read anything even with the + sign gone. (I need to double check on that but I think thats how it is).:bookishfj7:

Thanks for the informative reply. I've seen several posts in the forum that mention the plus sign. But I'm having some difficulty visualizing what it is and how it works. Are you saying that you can simply type a plus sign in the chat window and then it bypasses the parental controls and lets the children see the local message? Or is it something else?

Thanks,

Michael

Here! Here! I totally agree and I'm sure this post is soooo late but well if finally figured out hwo to post on here! Please Disney give us an adults only server!

The only way they could work out if you were an adult is requesting your credit card details for verification, but then again kids could "loan" their parents cards :P

No - when you go to chat (press Ente Key) - beside the Skull on the Chat Box you will see a Talk Balloon (like in comics) - click on it and it puts a + Plus Sign in the box - then the filter is activated for you and anything you are 'allowed' to say can be seen by others (this effectively turns ON the filter on your chat making it safe for others to read - so no appreated wors are allowed and some other info will appear in red).

But they have to make these teens safe from online predators. Giving away the identity of the children in the game should be absolutely forbidden. The reason should be obvious. Everyone is so concerned about their own gameplay and their own wants that they are forgetting that there could be people within earshot that might not actually be there to play the game. They might be interested in something else.

I am a parent of two girls, both nine. We logon together and sail as a crew. They are sitting right next to me when the spamming of friend requests begins. Drives me absolutely crazy. I'm half tempted to make them create male characters.

There are lots of other online options out there if you like MMOs. But I would support having adult servers. Absolutely. So long as I know what they are, we can avoid those easily.

The challenge, of course, is identifying the adults. You may think this may be easy (someone suggested that Disney, lol, PHONE CALL every person and verify over the phone that they are an adult). But that's absolutely ridiculous and naive. If you think a teenager can't spoof that, you'll believe anything.

Unfortunately, I hate to say this, but the only way this will happen is if Disney agrees to spend lots of money on a special program to certify the age of specific players. And, they need to make sure that an adult account can't simply be logged into by a minor. That part may indeed be impossible. The good news is that the technology and know-how to do this is out there, just in a place you might not think of ... the online porn industry. They are required by law to verify the age of people entering their sites (don't ask me how I know this). I believe they do it by sending a $1.00 charge to a credit card in the registered member's name. Something like that.

Anyways, Disney, keep it safe. If I wanted to play an MMO with adults, I'd be playing World of Warcraft still.

Thanks,

Michael

i am also a parent and have been coaching my daughter about internet saftey for years that is a big problem with many parents that just dontn have the lines of communication or know how to educate them about and dont mistake mysuggestion as only for adults to be aware of children.... only a suggestion in programming this differation could also be used as a tool on whose chat logs should be monitired more closley speaking from a back end technical type suggestion nad yes it would make adult users aaware that they aare talking to a child not every flippin adult is a predetor...... i am sorry it got u heated....... i do however make sure toopenly ask age when befriending and can usually tell within minutes by the slang, general talk and behavour, thus far i have made friendships that i would like to take beyond the caribbean and feel unfortunate that certain things cannot be shared.... there are ways around it at angle , FOR ALL ASPECTS AND SUBJECT of this topic.... this is what i have found for myself 86% of the ppl i have meet are 30+ in age paying accounts who mostly allshare viewpoint of opting out of partaking in quest with the younger set. just an opinion and suggestion, i am glad u posted and i apprieciate yours

we do not allow our daughter internet access.

Jacko 05-19-2008 10:48 PM

bring on the adult server!!!

Tab1975 05-29-2008 04:15 PM

Even if they don't allow an adult server, for heaven's sake, LIGHTEN UP! I can't say the word "Gremlins" (That's a term I use when a computer's gone wonky. Computer gremlins). I was trying to tell someone we "tore up" a skelly ship and THAT wouldn't go through. I'm trying to get my sister help for the Boss Battle - her pirate's name is Kat Badkidd, and they won't let me type her NAME! I can't even separate it and say Bad Kid. Yet they allow her to have that name...

This is my first Disney online game to play, but I can tell you this story...remember about three, four years ago when Disney started the whole "Magical Gatherings" thing for WDW and DL? And you could download this software, invite all your friends and family that were going on the trip with you, and that way you could get together online, plan you "to-dos", your food options, and they had a chat. Awesome idea, right?

My friend and I got in the chat one night and started making plans...we could not use the words "Group", "Peter", or "Mickey." FOR PLANNING A DISNEY TRIP!

I think there's protecting, and then there's ridiculous.

Lucy 05-29-2008 04:59 PM

the name Lucy use to get blocked as well, I submitted it ot Disney as an addition to their dictionary, a week later they responded saying it had been added and I havn't had problems with people not being able to use my name in chat since.

Tab1975 05-29-2008 05:04 PM

(Incidentally, if I can say this here...Lucy is Kat's real name...if not for you, she woulda been stuck either way...)

Lucy 05-29-2008 05:11 PM

thier just jealous of us Lucys because we're awsome and they were trying to keep us down :D

Here Here!

I couldn't agree more! Most of the players I run in to are adults anyway - so one (or several) servers would only make sense.

I received a "Shame on you" e-mail from Disney yesterday. What I don't understand is how totally random it is. I've said MUCH worse (and yes, I even managed to give out my e-mail) and never heard a peep from them. Now all of a sudden I'm under scrutiny?

The point Disney is TOTALLY missing is WHO PAYS FOR THE GAME??? It's certainly not the little kiddies....

GIVE THE ADULTS THEIR OWN SERVERS!!!

DvLzArchAngL 06-04-2008 08:51 PM

So where are all the dos and donts about what we cant say while chatting listed at?

:smiley10:

That would make sense, but wouldn't the parent be asking why you would need their credit card info? If a parent wouldn't ask for that they would need some help..
I think it would be better to both, kids and adults, for seperate servers. Since then it would give kids a little "added security" and adults more freedom. Although I could see a problem with younger family members. Unless adults could not go onto the kids servers and kids would need permission from the adult they wish to go to on adult servers.
Try sending it to disney!:psmiley27:
