Wrong spot

it appears to me that they have fixed this to where the veterans can (depending how close you are to the end of the fence) either run around the fence and come after you or just walk right thru the fence and come after you.

either way unless there is something bad wrong with my account, it seems that kingshead is no longer the worry free rep/gold machine it once was.

any one else notice this?

The fence isn't broken
Line up behind the 7th post in the long row of fence and take 5 steps back, then throw into the mob, they will run at the fence and be stuck between the 7th and 8th post of the fence. This fails 1 out of 20 times but its better then standing out in the open. I managed to get my nades from lvl 1 to 20 in one afternoon standing in that spot with very little trouble. Thanks to the guild mate who stayed on Kingshead so I could TP back and forth for ammo. Thanks also to the very nice players who I shared the field with that day, I showed them where to stand and we had a very fine crew going for a while making crew reps a great addition. The gold is great there too!

hmm lemme say this a different way. i went all up and down the fence trying everywhere including the 7th post and no luck, they still ran thru. i will try again when i get off work later tonight.

i figured that it wasnt a fix, more like an isolated bug or something.

like i said, i tried multiple locations, varying distances from the fence, pretty much everything and they either ran around the fence (this happens from about the 4th/5th pole to the first pole) or thru it.

ill try again tonight and ensure that im not gravely mistaken and didnt try the 7th pole last night.

in the early stages of leveling my health got pretty low and i needed to occasionally use a tonic but it's a good method for earning lots of rep...if you don't mind flirting with dying.

Maybe I can learn something new here...how do you aim at their chests? I've only ever seen foot-circles with grenades. (Probably why I consider them BY FAR the hardest weapon in the game - no aiming circle similar to pistol. Not even a fuzzy circle - just foot circles.)

It's all in the long volley skill and using mouse-look. Usually I can aim and certain parts of the enemy (legs, chest, or head) by charging up the long volley and aiming the shot with the right mouse button. A fully charged long volley should pretty much go in a somewhat straighter line than a giant lobbing arc. Most times I don't even need it to be full, maybe 3/4. Aim your throw more downward (camera shows more ground than sky). If you get the angle correct, you'll hit the right spot on their body.

Most of the time I can predict my trajectory and hit them anywhere I want to on the first try at any distance just as long as I'm in range. You have to visualize where you think it will land. I may have spent a good bit of time just testing it out and seeing how different terrain, charging, etc affected it.

I think grenades are one of the most interesting weapons we have. More planning involved as it's not a point and click weapon like the pistol. I don't even mind how long it takes to level (since it damages you with splash damage up close). It's meant to be a ranged weapon and I admire its uniqueness. Or I may just like it when things to boom.

Aye, I hear ya. OK, so the estimating/visualizing stuff is what I've done for a long time...I thought you meant at a different graphics setting, you had cross-hairs or an aiming circle or something. Irks me, that only the foot circles can be used for aiming grenades.

So overall... where would you say the BEST place to level your grenades? My pirate is lvl 40 and I'm currently at lvl 15 for the grendades.. I went to Kingshead but they are all grey.. Is there a spot that has a couple high levels and a place to either reload or heal nearby? I can't seem to think of a spot, maybe somebody else can help me out lol

Padres Beach has bosses and an ammo shop. In a pinch, the bartender will heal you (if you can get inside the bar in time.)

I decided to level my grenades up to at least 17 (they were at 10 with notoriety at 28) and have been hitting Kingshead over the last few days. I've been using the 6th post (hadn't read this post in a long while). They've been graciously staying on their side of the fence. The only times I've seen problems with this is when I try to bring other soldiers in; occasionally they won't be as courteous and will hop the fence.

Only problem for me is when I get there enemies only give me about five rep. Looks like I'm stuck in tormenta.

The fast and dirty.

OK here is a screen shot, I used the fifth post. I never aim at their feet, I get the circle on the closest soldier. Then I move down and to the right between soldiers until the green circle is gone. I wind up about 3/4 the way, and let it go - stink bomb, so it hits all. Then I immediately switch to explosive, and green circle the officer. After practice you can hit him, any case you aggro him when throwing.

Hitting any of the other soldiers on the path usually breaks the group and they come through the fence. Use fire near the end of their health, so you get use of the grenades, but doesn't have time to do a lot of burning damage.

Hearing about outcast working again that is a place many like to go next, hiding in the rock hitting stumps.

Really, at this point grenades should be used with all other missile combos and worked together on Darkhart or something. Multiple weapon rep, max for each one.

If racing through the character like I did on this one through all the quests, this is like day 4. One more level to padres quest.

All you wanted to know for grenades. UGH, guess I could throw in the big alligator in Tortuga swamp, is glitched to get grenades to long volley.

Didn't know about the bartender -- thx!

Great guide, good job! Im leveling nades right now on KH :)

CarribeanThunder 05-25-2009 02:48 AM

Don't you just hate it when low level people start whacking their swords without asking, i usually just stop throwing grenades and wait for the low level's target to engage on him, if he sweeps, they will all eventually gang up on him lol
Didnt the pirates online guys say you needed to be paid to get into kingshead? ive seen non payers in Kingshead O.o

Rannulf 06-14-2009 10:08 AM

Well three trips ina row to kingshead and they get through the fence evereytime what gives? Now I have to get max tonics as well as grenades! Rats:degen:

Sarah 06-14-2009 10:49 AM

Hitting any of the other soldiers on the path breaks the group and they come through the fence. Stick to the group of seven on the parade ground and 99% of the time, they stay on the other side of the fence.
