I like this game and I just don't want it to go to waste because some people want to use language in the game just because their ship sunk...I mean, come on, your ship sinks and you swear, and then you go to jail and do it all over again? Why can't you just take the swearing part out and everyone can play? I just really like this game and I don't want my mom to look at it and say I can't play because a few people want to use language all the time...I have fun and I don't want to quit just yet.

I have zero interest in using profanity in the game. If I want to swear, I express it verbally or via inner monologue in the privacy of my home. No harm done. I don’t think the option of being able to type profanity should ever be considered as it is completely unnecessary in my opinion. Yes there are subjective things in the game however a line must be drawn at some point.

This is about not being able to carry on a normal conversation about daily events, favorite movie lines, etc. Whatever the topic might be it is extremely difficult to communicate the way the chat interface is currently setup. It is quite aggravating when someone has no clue what you are saying because they missed what you typed somewhere in the conversation. It doesn’t always tell you what was blocked. Sometimes I see what I typed but nobody else does. Other times I don’t see it and assume nobody else did. This can create some frustrating situations in chat sessions. It would be nice if there were other options available. I enjoy this game very much and will deal with the bugs and restrictions with the anticipation that improvements will be made. Feedback does make a difference.

I agree.

I think chat could be changed a bit to fix those problems but I'll get back on topic.
An adult server...
The game was made for children not adults who want to talk about life. Profanity should never be used in a game what-so-ever.
If you mention an adult server to disney I doubt they'd give you any response.
The game was made for kids, adults can play it just the same, end of story.
It was really made for all age groups but not for what all age groups do.
If you want to use profanity, say it in your head. At least no one has to hear or read your horrible vocabulary.

Perhaps the big D likes the site ;)

As for a perma-ban from Disney, I think the magic number is seven, but it also depends on the severity
of rule breaking. I imagine they could drop you after just one if you were "naughty" enough.
In their eyes, we are all 13.

Let's keep hoping for a grown up playground.

>>>

Foist to akamystic & MacIronhawk ... profanity is not an option, and i agree. Said that i read
that we adults have zero options but have to accept being treated like kids. that's a bad attitude.
If Disney is only running it's activities for kids ... they are way outta line: Violence (no gore i admit that),
eerie and sinister phenomenon 'n atmotphere's - swearing and drunkards.

What I simply want (and do you really find that unreasonable ?) an option to invite a game
friended player to chats outside the game. Simple as that !

>

As to Sarah me dear ... TY and *bows* in a pirate'd manner with me feathered hat thrown skyhigh
in dedication to you and your attitude:

I wish u gold piles aboard ur ship topped and so huge that they may sink you. I was looking for a
sane solution and hoped i could use the answer. I def can !

I have 40k i want to get rid of ingame. U want them ? - i have many a time sat down losing fortunes
in poker - i hate money cap - but at least it seems the D company listened to me wishes
and granted me new ways to waste me money. I can always relocate rep's so i can change my
reputation from being notorious to infamous.

Yes why shouldn't WE as adults don't have any rights? We DO pay real money after all.

I know that restrictions on possible adult servers may be as tight as on the kiddo servers as they
are now, and mayhaps once in awhile a kiddo slips thru to an adult server - but on the other hand
... if security is as TIGHT as it is now - i'm sure they can handle that also.

I'll try the piratesonlineforum in plain text and see whut happens. It seems that i have 4 suspensions
(pirate lives) left before i am dumped into the abyssal davy jones annihilation & oblivion locker.

Great - thanks me temporary friend.

P.s. if u want the money (or know some that need them) i can most o' the time be found on abassa
dancing around and between player ships wrecking havoc and mayhem - and after a short while
dive deep in a blaze and with style ... that's me LOL.
Feel free to disturb me and cause me lose my concentration - smiles

And what do you base this on? I see absolutely no facts to support your statement. Content, advertising, the POTC franchise all together. Sorry matey. Just because Disney makes alot of kids games doesnt mean this was one of them. Trix are for kids... POTC is for the family audience (this includes adults).

I was told by a Customer Service manager that I was 13 as far as they treat all members, I repeat ALL MEMBERS. Yet they require payment from ADULTS (other than game cards). Go figure. I think this is because thier moderation staff covers all thier games, not just POTC and they havent figured out how to approach 2 different standards.

Sarah 10-09-2008 03:11 PM

You're quite welcome Capt. Don't need the gold, but will be keeping an eye out in game for ya. You can always find me with a pack of Dueces in tow. ;) Loot Hard!

Capt. Widowmaker 10-09-2008 08:16 PM

Well i guess then in have to cut a hole in me pocket, so the gold can unburden me by
leaving a trail of coins. Just hope they dump faster than my income LOL.

Well mayhaps ye can find me by following the golden trail. If ye happen to see pirates
with a gold coin above, that means that they have grabbed the values in the path of
me where'bouts - which was meant as an offer for u to follow - so ye looting party
could sniff me up. If so ... your towed party may recklessly plunder the culprits.

Sarah 10-09-2008 08:25 PM

Aye, now back to topic ;)

Edward Edgemenace 10-09-2008 09:35 PM

As an adult, I appreciate the protection that Disney offers me, by having a zero-tolerance policy regarding personal information. Honestly, I don't want to interact with any of you, outside the context of this game. I appreciate that it makes many things difficult. But I would not want them to relax that policy at all. I do not know how they technically could accomplish an adult-only server. Several theories above would get them close...but all would be rather imperfect.

What I don't understand, is why the "seven worst words" and their 100-200 common variations, are not filtered and replaced with "arrr." Any time a moderator suspends someone for inappropriate language, add that phrase to the "arrr" list.

Capt. Widowmaker 10-09-2008 10:53 PM

LOL ... > Aye, now back to topic < like: "Know ur place dog" - smiles, but ur right its too easy to go off topic.

> But I would not want them to relax that policy at all < neither do i, since i protect my own daughter just
as they do - but that won't prevent me from time to time - to talk to other people.

As to my experiences it's most likely that eventually despite all technical options a kiddo might slip thru, but as on
chat pages when people find out that a youngster found the backdoor - they are reported and kicked out.

Well the easist way around that problem is to shrug and accept facts - we pay but have no rights, and just leave the game.

But u can be sure of this: If nobody pays for playing this game it will close - i know nobody that runs a business
by being filantropists. Disney company runs a business but i dont think they run a game like this just as a service
for kids.

And besides and no people stand up and opposes to laws, authorities and dogma - NO reforms will ever be made.

It's the people that dare to speak that make the changes (i don't say that's it's always to the best, but nevertheless ...)

Back to topic ...

The fact remains, that although the idea of "adult only" servers seems good at first blush, it is an untenable prospect. And obviously not the sort of risk that Disney wants to take.

Again, they could mitigate the copious chat issues, by "arrr"-ing the comparatively short list of words and phrases they deem unacceptable.

Diego Birmingham 10-09-2008 11:59 PM

All Disney would need to do to allow socializing and still protect kids (and other who want the protection) is to setup a link to POF or their own POTCO forum site, with warnings (in the case of POF) that the game rules of interaction do not apply there and to be wary of predators. Players are happy and Disney's reputation is intact and liability-free.

BTW, my congrats to the mods here who keep the place safe and under control.

BTW #2 -- I found this site without ever having heard of it from anyone--POTCO player or otherwise. I was interested in a place for discussing the game and found that and more. All I did was google. Anyone can do it. I have however, provided several players with the URL and others the name or solid hints about how to find POF. I have never been banned for anything.

I also haven't seen facts that say it was made for families but that's just me.
I do know the game doesn't target just adults but families.(kids and adults but without adult material like blood, etc..
If it did I bet we would have an emotion to drink rum, etc...
I still think an adult server would be out of the question. If disney's a company that is based for families then an adult server seems out of the question.

I see posts saying that say disney is zero-tolerance.
I want to agree with that but I can't. (I'm going to contradict myself)
In MY opinion if it was zero-tolerance we wouldn't be able to type in short forms of bad words to be rude to people.
Disney could have been smart and made it so that wasn't possible but it is.
While they are zero-tolerance they're not smart enough to make sure people can't get around using profanity in short form.
If I had a game that targeted families then the first thing I would do is make sure that text profanity and regular profanity for chat wasn't possible.

Topic: Adult server ... let's forget about theoretical speculations: Can they ? Will they ?

A potco friend was asked by a player what her name was. She knew personal info
would suspend her, so she would in a humorous way decline the question:

She wrote the name of one of her potco pirates ... and was SUSPENDED !

Is THIS fair ? She wrote disney and told them the facts. They replied that they considered
it personal info and continued the suspension !!!

THIS is one of the reasons i find it fair and reasonable that we have a playground of or own.
And i am NOT talking explicit erotical, sexual, ranting, abusive contents - i am simply talking
about a server where we can be adults with the sense of humor and subhumor that we have
sharing the info we want if somebody finds us interesting enough to friend us outside potco.

I am sure that i also one day will be suspended because of a humorous or innocent remark.

>>> reply to edgemenace :

I can see that you have edited your post. I now also see why misunderstandings are made.

My remark / quote > > Aye, now back to topic < was to Sarah, and not for you. Why you took
it up as a personal attack idk - and i have no comments on that.

You also mocked my writings and accused me of being not an adult, because of many flaws
in my posts.

Know this ... i am new here which means that my replies takes a while to be approved and
therefore can risk being percived wrong or read in the wrong context.

I am also from Denmark, so i don't master the language spoken in
The United States of America
so well.

Edward Edgemenace 10-10-2008 03:47 PM

Well then, my apologies, if my point was not made. What you perceived as "mocking" was intended to demonstrate how impossible it is, to determine if someone is or isn't an adult. (That may have been obscured by the reactionary insult that the moderators removed.)

If Disney were to have adult servers, they would need a fairly fool-proof way of determining someone's age. As of today, POTCO still has the age of the primary account holder on my primary account, as the fictional age entered when the account was first created. That is, not my age, nor the age of my children.

Simply saying that they could/would have everyone sign a waiver saying they are adults, is flawed. Since the POTCO staff assumes that everyone now is 13, any such signature would have the validity of a 13-year-old's signature: no legal validity at all.

MacIronhawk: I don't know if you were referring to my comment about zero-tolerance, but I had writtend "zero-tolerance in regards to personal information." Sorry if you misunderstood that as "zero tolerance for everything." I strongly agree that their profanity filters could be improved.

Jade Macmorrigan 10-10-2008 05:18 PM

(wow last time i posted on my own thread was awhile ago...lol)

anywho....

i personaly don't see why Disney can't filter out the ages of its players. reason i'm saying this is this...there's a game on the net that's "adults only". um, NOT giving the name because when i say ANYTHING goes, i mean ANYTHING goes. (i found it by accident looking up MMORPG's on wiki-pedia...lol. there was a HUGE list!!) so being the nosey sort, i went and looked. and BLUSHED FURIOUSLY...lolz. MY POINT??? if they can filter out the ages of THEIR players...why can't Disney??? i mean they were really REALLY 18 and over only!!!!!

Making a link sounds like a good idea, but thing is, even on thier player's channel (that DXD thing) you can't give out personal info. if anything it's even more analretentive than the actual game. i know. i got banned trying to figure out how to send my email address to someone there too. messed up part was it wasn't even my real email address!!

what i wish they'd do if nothing else, is at least offer a way for those who are over 18 to be able to contact one another off game. maybe a messaging area, with a warning notice that before you post, you're responsible for yourself and what you post. like, "don't send info unless you realize you're doing it at your own risk....if-they-turn-out-to-be-some-psycho-it's-no-one's-fault-but-yours" kinda thing. but after you click on a box or whatever saying you understand that risk, THEN allow you to share your email address or something. if you've been forwarned then there's no way Disney can be held responsible, right??? i mean you have to check "i agree" or "i disagree" on stuff all the time, riiiiiight?? why can't they do the same thing in reguards to contacting someone?

it just stinks that there's cool people i've made friends with in the game that i'd love to talk to off the game but can't. i mean sure, i have friends from a certain social website (who's name i can't mention here either) that found me on some interest groups there that i play with on the game now, but any friends on the game? there's no way to let them know how to find me there.

ah well. what ya gonna do, eh?
