Can certain pirates run faster than others?

Ok, i have a question ive been wondering about the answer to for a while now. A friend of mine once said: "[so&so] (forgot the name) runs pretty fast!"

and i said, all pirates run the same speed, dont they?

to which she replied: "nope!"

her friend was there to back her up too, claiming that the speed of pirates varies when they are created

i searched the internet for something regarding this, but found nothing... so i was wondering if its true that certain pirates are able to run faster than others? or were my friend and her friend just full of it?

Hmm... that's interesting. I haven't ever noticed any pirates running faster than others. Sometimes, pirates appear to be running slower because of lag in their (or your) game, but to my knowledge, some pirates aren't just "made" faster.

I personally never heard of this. To the best of my knowledge all Pirate characters are created from the same mold and there are no skill points for running speed.

This does bring up an old subject that we should dust off out of the Forum archives.....Windcatcher.... Did they fix it? If not, has this been brought up recently? No point in wasting skill points if the skill is useless.

Welp, back in the good ole days, my windcatcher made me incredibly fast, but those days are long gone. I don't know if they fixed it or not, I re-allocated my skills and took all but two points out of it after they so drastically lessened the skill's effect. So can't say for sure... regardless, not worth maxing like it used to be...

The past history of this has been demonstrated by the Internet connection. So when a pirate was created I think has nothing to do with it.

If you took a high speed connection versus a dial-up connection it may be likely you see the fast speed of connection running faster, reacting faster, while slower connections are hanging up more, lagging. This all depends on what filters the game has though.

if you dont mind me asking, what is windcatcher?

Windcatcher is the passive sailing skill that increases ship speed. :)

oh yea... lol sry just had a dumb moment is all

what about the kraken? i know its completely off topic, but another one of my friends said him and again, his friend, were sailing and saw lots of bubbles rising in the water... could this be a sign of the kraken? maybe informing pirates that hes coming? i have an unusal fascination for krakens, (any seamonsters for that matter), i simply love them... which probably sounds weird... when i found out in the game that there was no kraken, i became dissapointed, considering that they had a kraken in the movies... but ever since i found out they were going to add it, i have been very excited, although the anticipation has been eating away at me as disney promised they would add it soon, and that was around a year ago... but the bubbles my friend told me about have gotten me very excited again

No, as of today, windcatcher has not been fixed. The spent skill points do save you some grief: NPC ships shoot behind you, instead of at you, if you unlock windcatcher. But your ship's actual speed increase was taken away when they released SvS.

Pirate running speed is a function of network latency, local computer limitations (especially video card) and graphics options settings. Other than that, all pirates run at the same speed. Explains why I was about 10 minutes behind the winners of the "Feats of Strength" contest. :-)

The bubbles i think you saw are only from ships when they sink,

Back on topic: Before Svs came out, if you held W and E and turned camera so you can run straight, you would run faster. But they fixed that and i do not know currently of any speed glitches.

So yeah, without any glitches, your friend is not right

If lag isn't the cause of some pirates moving faster than others, only thing I could think of that could be that much affecting since the "creation" of said pirates is that the tiny anorexic looking girl pirates and the drawf looking guy pirates do tend to move fast, if not faster than the big build pirates, or maybe it's just that in PvP, they're harder to hit coz their character is smaller. If its not that, then some people think, the less clothes you got on, the faster you move...LOL but that means hats, belts, boots, coats are the unnecessary stuff which wouldn't be fair coz guys can be shirtless and girls can't lol.

Cannonfury 03-20-2009 11:45 PM

Mine runs faster than anyone ;)

swashbuckler II 03-20-2009 11:51 PM

yeah theres a speed glitch now, at the time I made the post I didnt find it yet.

League 03-20-2009 11:52 PM

I think that certain pirates can run faster, depending on whether or not they're running away.

meowers 03-21-2009 12:38 AM

Well my main pirate is a girl but one time I made a boy one. I had to delete him cause I could not stand how different the guys run(like apes!!) and he seemed slower. lol It could of just been the build of him though.

One of the reasons I have my main pirate as a girl..the guy pirates run like apes and slower

MacIronhawk 03-21-2009 01:52 AM

The speed of all pirates is the same. How you view pirates running may make you think some run faster than others but you can't run any faster without the speed glitch.

Dr. Zeppers 03-21-2009 02:25 AM

I have a fully clothed male pirate (every piece of clothing, jewelry he can have), and I have to frequently stop and wait for my female pirate friend to catch up.. every few seconds.

Internet connectivity (lag), video ability (quality of hardware, and settings) play a MAJOR role in the speed a pirate runs, as it is perceived by other pirates. As when im stopping every few seconds to let her catch up, she says she doesnt notice anything on her end.
It has nothing to do with male vs female.

All pirates are coded to run the same speed. The other facets uncontrollable by POTCO (ie connectivity/hardware) are the only factors changing perception.

Fillyteen 03-21-2009 04:06 PM

My girl pirate runs really funny, her hips sway as she runs foward, but the legs don't fallow suit as she runs, the legs go way foward and back and the sway of her hips looks funny as she runs

Juliana Maria 03-21-2009 04:21 PM

During the feats of strength contest even I believe everyone ran just about the same speed. Even when people looked slower they could suddenly look right next to you because that was the real speed they were in. What made the difference in that contest was how quick you were to respond to the GO! And how close you stayed to the inside of the course... But yes I believe all pirates run at the same speed.

Another thing that made a difference was whether there were idiots with friends in the race throwing grenades at the other racers to lag them out and slow them down. Just saying.

Bonnylass64 03-23-2009 02:01 PM

I haven't seen any pirates run faster but I have seen pirates walking while my pirate is always running. Guess my girl is always in a hurry :laughks2:

League 03-24-2009 02:11 AM

That probably has to do with the battle stun, because you always run if you can help it.

Nack 03-24-2009 04:40 AM

well i have played tag in empty kingshead and chasing down people i noticed that if you use auto run [R] then you dont stop so you can make it.

Also, i will soon start a thread where i make times for empty kingshead tag games and look at my statistics if your wondering when the thread comes up.

captain skids 03-24-2009 04:33 PM

video and server lag might have to do with it
