Release Notes - February 6, 2009
  • Fixed the application icon not showing up when playing on a Windows machine in windowed mode
  • Fixed an exploit where a Pirate could become invincible on Kingshead

Just tested Wildwoods - that one still works exactly the same. :-(
Likewise the main Kingshead ones I knew of. I wonder what they thought they fixed?

Have they fixed that SVS bug yet? If not they should focus on that 1st.

Well, I've seen more updates in the past couple of weeks than over the past couple of months. I suppose that could be good and bad. New content being the good....and bugs being the bad. I have a good feeling about POTC Online for 2009.....we shall see.

Thanks for merging - thought the announcements were supposed to be separate from testing comments, though.

Haven't been able to test the poker invincibility yet (not enough cheat cards on test) but the other 4 major invincibility glitches still work. Haven't looked at SvS, as that was unrelated to invincibility (except that the same people generally abuse them both at the same time.)

I didn't get a download, so can't see how anything could of been fixed. Also assuming the application icon, might be the graphic option button, which still isn't fixed.

Server just went down for maintenance, so maybe its getting updated now.

Ahhhh, OK. Getting the update just now...OK - the main exploits seem to be patched. No more guards running the gallows pattern by default...yet. SvS testing later.

Not sure if this is a new glitch just introduced, but doing Alt-spacebar to activate the windows menu, then Alt to release it, starts an auto-jump (a la PvP jumpers.) Doesn't go away until you hit spacebar again. Don't know if this functions in full-screen mode (probably not.)

Noticed the new friends limit is 99 friends (was 49.)

I started up a new character and went through a bunch of levels to take a look at quests etc. Old bugs still around, like having to log to get the crate quest in PR.

Three new, or newer things I noticed though, Thieves den has some sorta of glitch, and watched the character die, taking no hits, or even acid on him after killing the eitc behind the door.
A Lot of Padres not tracking creatures in compass, El Sudron, and back Beach.
Pistol is getting a bug and at times really bad, quits firing and won't restock ammo, until you hit ammo type again.
I really hate the heirloom quest, after something like 30 ships and not the right marauder still.

Ed most jumpers i know dont use that, besides it goes away when you use Blade storm

Right - I was only comparing it to that style of continuous jump. It was very annoying when it wouldn't go away.

A lot of things are happing lately. My friend and others around could not see me in Padres Del Fuego for some reason and I was able to see them. Also, at time, when I launch my ship, I cant see the cannons. The Navy guards seing at a certain distance, they have black long-sleves uniforms.
Hope this would be fixed soon.

Even my doll got confused at times.

Had several other pic's, but they didn't save, first time I have had that happen. A few interesting ones, showing players through Fort Charles walls as enemies.

Did get a blue shirt drop though off a Giant Crab, first time I actually saw the drop. These should have bright green letters also as NEW ITEM.

The cannon thing's been happening a lot...


As for the screenshots, they've been overwriting each other if you take them, it seems, in the same minute without moving (going through a tunnel, TPing, etc).

So far I can't say I like much on this last build, half the day getting a lot of cuts and a few game crashes, worse than ever before for me.

Anyone have a clue what icon on windows mode was fixed?
I know for a fact the continue button on graphics option wasn't it?

See a few creatures missing, were spawning now nothing.

Grenade quest got some make over, maybe already on live, haven't done that for a long time.

3 things I noticed.
Very easy run to get crates now in Kings.
There is enough at PR for last part now.
Surprisingly, took a Spanish ship to Padres to deliver grenades and it worked for that.

The windows icon thing, I THOUGHT they were talking about, was the button on the task bar when NOT in full-screen mode...except that it doesn't seem to be fixed at all. Focus still blinks away for ad-window'ed games. And for ad-free windows, pirates.exe refuses to take focus until DirectX8 acknowledges a mouse click inside the pirates.exe window. (Still trying different things there, but man, chat window is crashing me fast, now.)

IMHO, the grenades quest was (for the longest time) the hardest quest in all of POTCO. They had you attacking high levels when you were a teensy itty bity level 20 character. Glad to hear they've eased up on it (or have you just gotten better at it?) I've never sailed to PDF to the smuggling portion: I'd always TP to a friend there, then launch and land immediately, to complete that portion. I don't think any restrictions were intended: just land there, any-which-way.

The same is true for all the "smuggling" quests...just search for a crew on that island, TP there, then launch and land.

Well I just don't know on the windows mode. I have always run the game that way. What ever they fixed, seemed to just make things worse, though it finally smoothed out later on.

Grenades, at least right now, way easier, not just that I know it well. I didn't even get touched, the soldiers don't charge anymore when you start searching.

Yeah that has been a quirk in the system to teleport, and launch and dock at the Island. This quest was to just deliver it to padres though, and I thought any use of the svs ships prevented any fulfillment of quests. Normally just teleporting there does it, which is probably the same thing with a svs ship here.

I just thought of something that happened while I was doing the grenade quest yesterday. I had two pirates on, one to act as a mule and to attract NPC attention while the other searched barrels and crates on KH. The first barrel on the right as you leave the parade grounds heading up the path (by the pig pens) is always easy and rarely if ever do you get attacked searching that particular barrel. So, the next barrel is the one by the little house, usually guarded by one lv18 - lv22 Navy NPC. I thought what the heck, I'll use my mule pirate to run by the NPC to get his attention and take him away from the barrel so I can search it.

I hit autorun and just started running in circles, then headed back down to the parade ground while my main pirate searched the barrel. The Navy NPC seemed to disengage at the old rate (prior to the follow you to the end of the earth update). So, while I was expecting my mule pirate to fo to jail, he didn't, and I foud that the chase mode for NPC's seems to have been reset to the old disengage distance/time.

I also found that the distance you have to be from NPC's not to get 'noticed' seems to be set back to the way it used to be.
