The Grand Royal Capture the Flag Tournament
 
Heya everyone. As a few of you have already found out, i'm going to host a Capture the Flag (CTF) tournament. First off, the rules. (if anyone can add pics of the sides, that would be great) Deadline for entry is Sunday, March 8th

1. Two teams, 5-7 people. (Different divisions if we have enough.)
2. Two sides, the parade field, first fort, and town/upper two forts.
3. Two jails, as decided by teams. (Normal ones are the garden and the circular tower above it). If you are caught, you must go to jail.
4. Each team has 5 minutes for one to make a move once the game has started. This is to get the game moving.
5. Unless you'e going to run, don't set foot in the town or first fort. This is called camping and is against rules.
6. No glitching.
7. The flags must be disclosed, but the location does not have to be.
8. One guard per flag.
9. To free someone form jail, you must attune them, then you both have to step on the stair free zone before running again.
10. The flag is considered captured when attuned, and the attunee is back in their zone and has not been captured. The person who has "captured the flag" is not safe until they are on the free stairs between the sides.

Trading:
If one person from each team is captured and imprisoned, a trade can be arranged. The captains of each team tell each other they wish to trade, and the main ref will escort each to their respective side.

The game works like this. The two teams will report to their side. The sides will be selected after the teams have been placed into divisions. After reporting to their side, each team will select a flag and one flag guard. The captains must share the names of flags, but not their location. One ref will be placed near each flag. You will be able to figure out a referee by the .REFEREE above their head. One each team is ready, the captains will whisper it to the 3rd "runner" ref, who will In turn start the game. Once it is started, you have 5 minutes to run to the other side, or else your team is disqualified. However, game time is indefinite. In the trials we've done, they last from 10-30 minutes.
Post here if you have a team, and when you can work best. You can, and are encouraged to name your team. I also need at least 3 refs per game (one near each flag, and one as a runner).

OK, this sounds interesting, but there is not a good explanation of how the game works for those of us that have never played it. Can you give a description of how the game works?

that be increased to say 8-10..?

Heya Achilles. The 4-6 is set up from previous tests. If we can get an 8-10 bracket set up, then by all means. I don't wanna have a team of 5 on a team of 10. See my logic? Or, we can do subs if people get dc or afk for a while. We'd set up a base for them to sit in.

But being a capture the flag player from numerous online shooters over the last 10 years...

I just dont understand how this works since there is no flag to capture. (ive read the how it works 5 times now... doesnt make any sense to me)

Could a better explanation be given?

That's where the refs and a player comes in. One person will be the flag, as in they are dead, and cannot tag, only be tagged. They will flip a coin, go afk, something to show they are the flag. A player from the other side will get to them, attune them, and the flag is supposed to run with them. However, if the ref verifies the flag was attuned, the flag is not required to run.

Hope this helps, and we're actually running a test game right now if anyone wants to join.

Trying to understand. You cannot attack the flag carrier to stop them.. no way to defend your flag...so
If you manage to find (attune) 'the flag' of the other team you basically have won and just have to run back to your flag/base?

Pardon my confusion, not trying to knock the idea.. but im not seeing a challenge here, at least not in capture the flag tradition as I understand it.
Sounds like hide and seek, with an additional run back to home base once youve found what your seeking.

Loved capture the flag... the challenge of getting to the flag (cant attack another pirate, so cant stop'em), and fighting my way back to home base (cant attack another pirate, so you can't stop'em). Looking for that.. and not seeing how it can be done, so I got confused... silly old drunken pirate master that I be...

No, you can still be tagged once you've capture the flag. Until you're on the stairs between the fort and the town yer fair game. The no attuning rule only applies with jail.

Hope this clears things up. Gonna edit the rules now.

I don't know that I can do any better job at explaining, but I'll try.

Like Zeke said, there are 2 teams in empty Kingshead. One has the lower side, field, town, etc, and the other team has the upper fort and area around it. Anyway, say I am on the lower team. My goal is to run across to the other team's side and avoid getting attuned. While there, I have to try to find the flag. However, I can get tagged (attuned) at any time while on the enemy's side. If I am on their side and a member of their team attunes me, I must go to their jail. In the jail, I must wait for one of my teammates to come and rescue me (attune me) and then we both have to make it back to our side without getting tagged. And if one of us gets tagged... then its back to jail. However, if I go on the enemies side and I avoid getting tagged, I search for their "flag" which is the member of their team that is AFK. If I find them, my goal is to attune them (without getting attuned myself) and then run back to my side (still without getting attuned). If I "capture the flag" but get attuned on the way back to my side, I go to jail and the flag is once again in place. All the while, the other team is doing the same thing on my side. I've actually found the game to be kind of hard, because you find yourself being chased the entire time you are on the enemies side, but it's definitely fun. :)

Uh, below in the quote box is the mad jumble of the post before I sorted out my thoughts. Anywhoo, here are my ideas for rules:

1. Having a doll out means you're safe. Basicly, you're either a) on your territory, or b) in a safe zone (at the enemy flag safe zone). Hence, you can tag enemies or attune the flag.
2. Having a pistol out means you're in enemy territory. If you're attuned, and a heal number goes up, you are to report to the jail watchman.
3. Having a cutlass out means you've acquired the enemy flag, and hence you're game to be tagged even on your side. As well, you can only enter the area near your friendly flag if you have the enemy's flag.
4. Having no weapons out means you're in jail, and is only to occur when you're on the enemy's side to allow for no deceit. For you to be freed from jail, the jail watchmen must be attuned: then everyone in that jail is released. They must cross back before drawing a weapon.

Those guidelines being laid out, this game can differ quite well from the regular Capture the Flag game. Because the flag calls out when attuned, and because speed is relatively similar for each pirate, the flag could be mulit-touch, and the game could be scored similarly to a baseball game, with anybody who touches the flag and touches back getting a point, even if someone else has also touched the flag. Basicly, a team can run in more than one flag at once, and no delay would be necessary, because nothing need be returned.

Those aren't bad ideas. Maybe the next update for CTF. For now, I wanna stay with the stuff we have. It's simple, most understand.

Ok, we definitely need to organize the matches on DIFFERENT SERVERS. If this happens again, I might go insane. And for the record, I never have been, and never will be, a captain in capture the flag.

Then they'll either have subs incase people can't or don't show, or i'll make another bracket. As for those who don't have teams, i'll figure it out. If I can get two more teams together, we'll add you to them. If not, then we'll add each of you to a team, and make them 7 to a team.

P.S. I will only be sending captains the info, so I need the captain of each team to message me.
