Why we should never be afk...
Hey here r some reasons why we should NEVER be afk. even in a safe area.
1. An enemy can come up and attack u like a practice dummy 2. u might get banned (its happened on other disney sights like club penguin) 3. u might get sent to jail and get groggy. 4. people might think its funny to use U as a practice dummy 5. If your on YOUR ship and afk it might sink! well thats about it and if you can think of any others let me know! :knife: |
I don't think that you can really "demand" people to stop being AFK. I mean really, it sounds like you're putting a lot of hate on people who are AFK. Besides, there are easy ways around this:
1. Hide in a safe place, or teleport to another Island, though you state that a safe place isn't safe, there are good safe spots which are always reliable. For example, if you need a safe spot on Isla Tormenta, just go to where the dig spot is, you'll never get attacked. In my opinion, the only places you should be concerned about AFKing in are places with the safe layout as El Sudoron, or King's Run. 2. I can't see a reason for getting banned just for being AFK. I can understand being banned if you're one of those people so desperate to get into Abassa, that you get in, and you just keep the game running for 14 hours over night. But other than that, I really don't see why; you'll need to elaborate. 3. Refer to workaround #1. 4. In this game, (correct me if I'm wrong :skull_bullet: ), you can't push people, so I don't really care if people just mock me while I'm away. If I see remarks on my chat screen, I can report them. 5. Either park towards an island, or go on AFK while you point your ship to the end of the world. Its actually kind of cool to see the message that comes up at the end of the world. ;) The only AFK people that concern me are the type of people in solution #2-- Those people make Abassa full, which is very rude for people who are actually on, and want to get to Abassa. Though I am rarely in Abassa, I think that it is just incredibly selfish to do that. They sort of get their own joke on them, when their computer dies of exhaustion. :degen: |
I have no idea why Disney would ban you for being AFK? They put the option to be AFK in the game to be used by people who are "Away From Keyboard". I know many times I have kept the game on to go get a snack, answer the phone, or visit the head to drop off a little "cargo". It is a very handy option, I have been AFK on my own ship many times while another mate takes the wheel who might need to level, and does not have a war-ship. You can go AFK and be more than safe on the new Port Royal or Tortuga just about any place in town, no enemies are going to pop up and bite you outside the Rowdy Rooster. Now you can be moved while AFK, I have been moved and moved other AFK players (good friends from guild only though). I do not see any issue with being AFK, and people who just leave the game running constantly while being AFK for hours at a time are going to waste a great deal of their systems life span doing nothing.

I have left my pirate AFK for a whole day before, they do not ban anyone for being AFK. What would the offense be? Besides the way I play with mouse instead of keyboard, my pirate appears [AFK] half the time while im running around and attacking.

Yeah, we love it too. We call it Pirate Tipping. ;)
We even made a contest for it. :laughks2: |

My only objection to AFK is during the recent GM events. I have noticed the specified oceans usually fill up sometimes a day ahead of the event and block people trying to participate. Other than that I don't see any down side or problem with going AFK.
|
I was once AFK, and I came back dazed at the bottom of a cliff! Some of those pushers are really cruel. Another time, I came back to see my pirate in boxers. Now that was just ridculous!
In a non-fictitious manner now, I wonder if it is possible to push peolpe into enemies. Heck, it'd be like pushing them to jail. That'd be great for a game of monopoly. |

One thing I am going to mention about AFK pushing. It is a favorite pasttime in DW guild, but , WE ONLY PUSH GUILDMATES! Random pushing of anyone who is AFK is just plain RUDE!

You showed up too quick, we were about to put your pirate up on concrete blocks... |
I only ever go AFK in safe spots.
Unless it's a big group of friends moving each other when they go afk, I treat it as griefing. If you push another player near an enemy to watch them die, I think reporting someone for that should be a-okay. I can see why people do that when they're bored but only if it's for fun around a group of friends. I'm glad a lot of guilds mention that they only push fellow guild mates. I really don't want to end up in a jail cell because someone thought it would be funny to push me. |
I think it'd be funny to leave and come back to find yourself in a jail cell with a bunch of other afk people. The implications... oh goodness.
|
|
:pirate2: Yeah, that's the stuff! In the same cell, no less.

I hate being pushed but the other night I passed an excellent reason to push someone who is AFK. They had gone AFK in the swamp in Cuba. Stupid really. And of course a gator was at them. But they had parked themselves in such a place that even if I moved them, (after I did shoot the gator) I'd have to push a long way to clear them from danger. I didn't want Mr. AFK to wake up as I was pushing them half way to kingdom come and ask why I was pushing them and have to say that Mr Gator was hungry and decided to snack on them.
Still a very good case for pushing a strange AFK pirate. |
Sorry to reply to an older thread, but that pic made me laugh outright! It looks like the beginnings of either the "Thriller" or "Time Warp" dances ... ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
Oh, maybe not so funny now that i have the Rocky Horror soundtrack stuck in my head. As a friend calls them: Earworms!!! Arrrggghhh. Off to find a cure. |
lol.. some in our guild (Dueces Wild).. purposely leave themselves AFK just to provide us with a chance to find creative places to put them.
and btw .. thanks jessa...lol (you've only ended up in jail once.. and it wasn't my doing.. someone ran by with a mercenary chasing em) |
You folks are a bad influence on me...
After hearing all of the AFK shoving talk, I broke down and was a bad pirate...
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...pictureid=1929 Actually, we shoved him until he disappeared under the waves. Whoever you are, mate - please forgive me! |
While I can't speak for anyone in POTCO who have decided that AFK pushing is griefing, I can speak for myself.
If I am AFK... push me... I have enough of a sense of humor to appreciate the creative attempt to spend time with your friends and have fun. As long as you're not being insulting or rude (lol.. Jessa.. if you read this..the fruitcake in your pockets comments refer to how hard it is to move you.. not in anyway the size of your petite pirates backside) It's a lot better use of your game time than spending it on Abassa being subjected to REAL GRIEFING. So to all POF ... feel free to relocated Kelly Wildhawk, Cat Astrophe, Liz Wildeagle, and an unguilded grey haired beauty named Lyta... Folks... this is a game... lighten up.. have some fun with it since well what else are you gonna do without new content. |
I think some folks are taking this rather seriously. Understand, I would never condone pushing someone into harm's way, where they may be attacked.
Pushing someone into the drink to me is a harmless prank - like dunking someone at a pool. As long as you're not trying to drown them - its just a joke. And I would just as casually expect someone to pull such a prank on me, if I ever went AFK. However, some people's behavior, particularly when it comes to PvP smacktalk, borderlines on terroristic threatening - but, I can't rationalize a direct comparison. If a player or group singles someone for ABUSE, then its not funny and they need to be dealt with. |
I always log out if I need to go do anything.
Even if it takes about two minutes. Ya never know... |

Thing about being AFK is It kinda takes up space for other players. If your on a busy server and being AFK it takes up space and it makes the game lag.
Most ppl go to the A ocean's And i love Pushing ppl into the water when there AFK teach's them a lesson for being AFK I like it when they are on the docks then i push them into the water HEHE:laughks2: |
To tell the truth, I actually pushed some DW before XD (dont remember who)
You should never go afk cause you may be pushed my new pushers |
Hmm.... my second pirate just joined BBK.... should I be concerned? O.o
|
That explains what happened to me. Went afk and woke up in jail. Two minutes in the head and groggy like forever. LOL. Now i know to watch my mates backs when they are afk.

Exactly! I have only done two pushes, both of a guildmate. There is just one pirate who is not in my guild I would even remotely consider pushing, and then ONLY because he is a very good friend of mine. There is just no reason to push a strange pirate. It's not a prank. You don't know if that other pirate finds being pushed funny. If said pirate woke up mid push you might find yourself reported, and with good reason. Last night while I was pushing Sven, a couple random pirates happened on me. I don't remember the guild name but it was one I'd never seen before. They watched me for a minute then said "Good to know." And turned to go. I made it a point to stop and tell them "We only push guildmembers!" In my opinion the only okay people to push are your guild, if you are a DW or of a guild which engages in this sort of random silliness, or a very good friend. Never push a random pirate! EVER! Note, my 8 year old niece just looks at me when I explained pushing random pirates and says, "That's like pushing someone into the pool!" You tell em!! |
I have pushed a couple of good friends in game all in fun.
On the old island builds I did push a couple of strangers who had gone afk right in the middle of a narrow path or doorway. I simply moved them out of the main traffic area and went about my business. I go afk when I need to take a short break for whatever reason, but I make a point to get out of main thoroughfares so I'm not interfering with others' gameplay. |
If any one sees me AFK feel free to move me around, I do not mind. I am usually going AFK to let out the dogs, help the wife around the house or falling asleep in my chair because I have been playing pirates too much. :)
