Too QUIET!

I'm rather disturbed at the LACK of any indication that ANYTHING is coming in the future of POTCO.

Remember how long they plugged Ship vs. Ship? How many weeks ahead we heard about new ship names?

This outfit plugs and plugs new stuff LOOOOONG before it shows up, even on test. And there hasn't been even hint one of ANYTHING lately. The website isn't teasing us with ship customization or inventory updates... not even another modest RP'ing session attempt.

The silence is speaking VOLUMES to me.

(Now, watch them put out some big update today and make me feel stupid).

Alehahaa 06-25-2009 03:46 PM

I agree..
Weren't they advertising the new quests and notoriety raise a while ago?
What happened to that?:zn3lmd:

Liz Fireburn 06-25-2009 04:04 PM

I also agree.
Lately its been getting worse and worse, not even another day to crew with the GMs.
Still nothing about new inventory either and they put that in the on the horizion thing months ago.
Really hope we get something new soon, I am getting so tired of this =/

Maybe we will get lucky and something HUGE will come by July.
(I can dream right? :))

The Count 06-25-2009 05:15 PM

I compeletly understand there hasnt even been a 'Remeber the Code' reminder in like forever.

(thats kinda means something ya know)

Aaron McEagle 06-25-2009 05:35 PM

No, I think we are still talking about the EITC and how we talk to a GM for a couple of minutes and then a EITC GM shows up and they all run away! That or SAILING WITH THE GM! Yipie, sail with a GM for 4 minutes! Seems like Disney keeps repeating quests, events, and even things in the same year. Atleast you can wait a little while before you put the event in again, not 2 weeks. Disney needs a new makeover. I think they are all watching T.V. sipping on rum/coffee or watching us do the same leveling over and over and over. Come on Disney!

Cannonfury 06-25-2009 06:02 PM

This game is on its last breath. Enjoy the game while u can mates, cause this ship has sunk and will soon be gone forever.

Eliza Creststeel 06-25-2009 06:09 PM

Maria,

Ouch - girl. But, yeah - there's NO HYPE at all. Kinda' wonder if it's like one guy coming in and making a new LAME poll, checking emails and posting results, etc.

It doesn't take a LOT of people to maintain status quo...

I know there are players here who get privvy to images and other leaks... does anyone KNOW anything coming? Sadly, POTC4 has been pushed back and won't be on screens until 2012! So, there's no motivation to put time and money into this thing.

Really trying hard to stay optimistic, but the mouse ain't giving me a lot of reasons to.

I seriously doubt this. They still have their POTCO UK to open up, the truth of it I think is that its all just taking alot longer than they planned. And other projects are also probably taking up a bit of their focus/time. Plus its summer. Hopefully they are working on cranking out the summer update so they can take some vacations ;)

There not giving up on this game they just don't do things very expediently with there online division, toontown is notorious for long breaks between new content.

If I had to take a stab at it , like zep said they are working to release the UK addition of the game, the UK addition in many peoples opinions is going to be our POTCO with a huge update, there is a web page floating around with all the updates that will come with the UK release and they are many.

We are going to get the updates and the game is going to be around for a while I would not worry about that.:icon_treasure_chest

Davy Keelhawk 06-25-2009 08:15 PM

well at least the new content is going to be GOOD if it takes so long. Also, i saw a commercial and saw a quick glimse of a ship exploding and falling in half so that must mean their cranking in the new updates soon right?

Eliza Creststeel 06-25-2009 08:21 PM

maria,

dude, too. So, no harm no foul! :)

So, about this POTCO UK, will only citizens of the United Kingdom be able to play? I mean if it is going to be soooo much better - would we be able to defect?

Just looked at the site... Man, oh man if this is any indication - we in the States are being HOSED!

First rule in waiting for new contenet. DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING ON A COMMERCIAL!

Those are desighed to draw you in not that there is going to be a new update.

Anyway, POTCO has had a good enough time to give us what we want but instead they waste vauble time on usless updates and talking about things we already know.

Commodore Larence 06-25-2009 08:50 PM

I have been playing on my basic accounts that have won the 30 days free unlimited access, and the Caribbean is as dead as it has ever been. It is Summer, if the kiddies are who they are marketing this game towards then they should be updating massively to get the kid online to play during all of their free time while out of school. I got in a good guild, and if it was not for them getting together I would have nothing to do really.

The POTCO-UK game looks just like ours visually, but maybe just maybe it has beyond level 40 quests and levels... I'm still not paying Disney any more money til' I see concrete proof of substantial updates.

No its our game updated and introduced into the UK we should be recieving the same game and be playing on the same servers as the UK pirates.

New to them Update for us.

Eliza Creststeel 06-25-2009 09:03 PM

Ben,

Hope that's true. If so, I just breathed a bit of a relief...

Sounds silly maybe, but after building guild sites, organizing pirates, making dear friends, plundering, and even contributing to encyclopedias on this game - I'm just not ready to give it up...

Maximvs 06-25-2009 09:13 PM

I cant believe that web site is still using the same early 2007 commercial cutscene.... do they not realise that UK players have probably seen the game here? :)

Juliana Maria 06-25-2009 09:50 PM

I agree. The silence is concerning. But I do have faith they are working on something.... When I joined POTCO a little over a year ago, their webpage was updated weekly or close to it! Now we are lucky if its even monthly! And I don't count crew with the GM and those promotions for the in-game events either. I just wish they gave us some sort of hint as to when we might get the update, that way we can at least know how long we are waiting instead of going day by day. Even another "What's On the Horizon" would reassure me that they DO remember.... :)

but hey if they put it in a commercial, they had designed it, which MEANS, theyre going to put it online right? :j

Kaionai 06-25-2009 11:36 PM

They just want your money and your time, Game has gotten rather boring.....nothing new...and then when the game does come out with something new it can be completed in less then a day..this is your casual gamer MMORPG that i have finally come to realize yet another game with much potential gone to waste...*sigh*

MacIronhawk 06-26-2009 12:17 AM

There are a lot of reasons why there hasn't been a "big update" yet. The economy could be a reason. For all we know their hours have been cut back severely.

This long period of wait is normal. On toontown there was(is) a cycle where Cog HQs come out with smaller updates in between cog HQs updates. It took two years for bossbot HQ to come out and we made it. It hasn't even been two years yet and people have said that the game is "dead". I don't know why there were almost no impatient threads/posts on TTC when Bossbot HQ was in the works but now there are countless threads/posts here about how the game is "dying".

The game is certainly not dying. We're just in between big updates. I guarentee that we'll see exactly the same cycle once the next big update comes out. There will be excitement and then after four months people will get bored and want more. I want to ask everyone here this question. Is it so hard to stop playing the game and tell yourself to be patient?

The developers are people too. In the developer bios I think there are probably nineteen developers. They can only do so much. Sixteen hours if you want to be specific since the brain needs eight hours of sleep.

If you've played toontown you'll also know that the UK players play with the US players. We all play on the same servers. The only difference is the websites.

Ok... donno where - cause on that site those screens are SO OLD that it even shows the old Padres - the pre-beta ships - even that old Kraken Cutscreen which everyone drools over everytime someone finds it every six months or so (which is OLD... :D )

Mac, I admire your steadfast hope, I think many of us do. :) Many of us also hope for more at some point - but its really about the facts.

First - theres no between - theres never been any updates.

The additions of SvS (last years "big update") was added only bcause it was cut out before release because of timelines - and even its so buggy not many play it.

The game designs are also different - the Cog HQ's and its play allow for repeating with actually accomplishing more (hence - replay value!) ... but getting to re-do the Pearl over and over? Znooze!

It would of been different if there was a storyline that made "a circle" of adventure - instead of do A, go to B, kill C, repeat.... - at the end of the line, theres nothing left.

If Disney plans to release only once every 18-24 months - they better do some serious planning on a "revolving" storyline where the adventure never ends.

Much more could be posted, but its all been posted before. Many have made suggestions, many have provided feedback to fix issues, many continue to try to hang on... but Disney only continues to hamper peoples efforts (accounts, fix useless bugs while major ones go on ignored), throw up useless updates (new towns), and add quests no one needs (like that L5 weapons are any good to a mastered pirate... just wasted REP and time).

People have a legit reason to be upset, because when the players can make more of a game out of it (by planning games and quests and adventures of their own) better than the game makers - its very sad.

Cannonfury 06-26-2009 12:48 AM

They may also be waiting, so they can fix any bug in the updates before releasing them. Unless they cannot do that if it's not on test yet, since that's what I assume test servers are for.

Maybe because they're losing so much money, that they NEED to expand across the pond for more potential consumers.

I'm just used to the whole cog HQ, little updates, cycle. I'm thinking POTCOs cycle might be, story quests, smaller updates, etc... It really is too bad POTCO can't create replay value like with the Cog HQs in toontown. I think they could come up with something really great. The devs are "disney imagineers".(Maybe...) There's about a story quests and a half(or more) put into every toontown cog HQ. That means we'll need about eight story quests(or more) before we can get the same value as toontowns content.(but toontown did come out before POTCO so it shouldn't take more than six years) I hope.

Also, sorry if I'm calling anyone impatient. I've just had less time on the computer because of a health class taking up my time. We all have different situations and I can understand why someone would be impatient if they had a lot of time on their hands.

Too bad the dev staff isn't bigger. I'm sure we'd see a lot more updates if they could double the staff.

Ahem! I've been playing pirates and I'm from the UK and have done so for the past year and half! As unlimited user. Be-wildered at why there is seemingly a UK version???
Anyway, not sure what's been advertised here, looks great even the bit where it says 'use authentic weaponary'.
So Lightning bolt from a cannon, fury!? What about Voodoo magic, I'm sure that is authentic. Also another amazing thing is that with all the sailing and fighting pirates, the undead, the EITC and Navy - I've never died (just go to jail!), never had Scurvy, rickets, Pox, blood infections from battle, my leg sawn off due to a bad cut and gone sceptic. Aye Disney, Aye - authenticity and become a Legend.... :laughks2:

Eliza Creststeel 06-26-2009 01:51 PM

On the replay thing...

Why can't they set up a mini-boss battle situation where the EITC is trying to set up a major outpost on various islands and the pirates have to take it out like with the Cogs...

You pop on to one server and Beckett has a force of guys trying to take over Cuba or built some new fort on Rumrunners... a collection of pirates gather and go take it down. And that could be different on each server.

Would it be that hard?

Richard Ironskull 06-26-2009 02:18 PM

The recent silence could be many things, but I choose to believe they are busy with the UK version, which will roll out in a way that they simultaneously massively update the US version. That kind of project would explain why they are releasing such easy to program updates now, and have gotten quiet as of late.

These and other ideas is just what the game needs :D In fact - wanna a REALLY SIMPLE ONE? Just make it so pirates replaying the Pearl can get a bit of REP from doing it again (even a measly 500 REP / play - I'd be in that three / four times a day! At least it would be an update worth playing a few months until new "real" updates came along...) :D Better than standing in a cave... again... day after day... beating a weapon to death on the same guy over... and over... and over...

bartholomew bladeroberts 07-13-2009 02:25 AM

well by the looks of it on the uk site we will be getting ship custimization it appears hard to program and animate for every new ship and the kraken is still rumored ( wheres the comodor with the phase files of it when you need him)and a nothing update on test could implement more features to be finished all i'm saying is that we need to wait stuff will come out

We've been waiting, in fact the recent highlight so far has been 'crew days' I mean wow. Don't we do that every day/time we are on pirates? I guess its fine if you have just joined and doing quests, but then after black pearl, weapons its a bit uneventful. Ship vs ship is still ok, and PvP fine, but starting to lose flavour.
Need challenge.

Aaron McEagle 07-13-2009 12:05 PM

So if the UK version is better than this version.....

Whats going to happen????
Can people go to the UK version if your not in the UK?
Will pirates of the carribean online be worse than the UK?
Can you trade versions if the other one you like is better?

I think it likely, as others have said, that the game is to be new for UK players and just an update for us. If they DON'T update us, and simply make the UK game without any updates for the US, I'm going to send so many messages to their "Game Advice" or whatever on their website yelling at them to update us that they'll either simply shut down the message system or they'll update us. :D

BigJohn 07-14-2009 11:45 AM

Well I sent a message about updates and this is what I got back:-

"Hello John, Thanks for your feedback on introducing new features you're interested in seeing.. We are always pleased to hear from our guests and welcome your comments. We are constantly balancing and making enhancements to the game to make Pirates Online a fun and safe place to play online. Again, we appreciate your comments, and look forward to seeing you in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Online soon! Tyler Pirates of the Caribbean Online Member Services "

Does the word FAIL, come to anyone's mind?

Aaron McEagle 07-14-2009 01:11 PM

Who knows what they are doing...
Who knows what wil be the next update....
Though when you do take a look at the screen shots on pirates UK website,
There are more sails on the war frigate,
And alot of new clothes for both gender.

Twisted 07-14-2009 01:26 PM

Fail, no. I see a generic email response from an 18 year old working in a cubicle making $6 an hour...

Hmmm not really. Yes a new feature. Weve gotten numerous similar small featurea additions, we all continue to wait patiently for what the game needs.

skullduggery bones 07-22-2009 11:49 PM

I'm in the UK and theres nothing new on the UK site or has been for ages. The US site will always be updated first. We dont even get XD with pirates on it yet!! Theres no whispers of bringing the UK site up to speed and Disney have many more important things to work on at the moment. I'm quite sure the UK site is way down their list.
This update is appearing soon (it's only been on test for what, about a week!!) so they must be confident with it. And i'm sure notoriety and gold caps won't follow too far behind.
This game isn't dead and never will be. Oh ye of little faith. Those who persevere will be rewarded greatly. You will see!

Yes I'm greatly rewarding Disney with my cash! As Disney rubs its hands in evil like manner "Yes we will update the game to have new features and quests, just like these pictures of proposed UK site, showing Frigates with 4 sails and new enemies. Now where is my drip feed....."

I already gave POTBS a shot, and im back with POTCO.
POTBS may be way ahead development wise, but its interface and game flow is not as intrigueing or fun IMO.
So, that would never be a complaint that i would have.
The closer to POTBS it is, the farther from it ill be making myself. ;)

Cmon Potco! give us something new to do! :)

JM Ohara 07-24-2009 07:04 AM

I said it before, and I'll say it again, new updates WILL come.

Yes, I've only been playing here a month. That said I have been playing on Pixie Hollow, (yes, I can hear you pirates hissing, I play there very little now though.) since it went Beta back in October. I've learned a few things from the Hollow's update cycles.

First, over the course of the now almost 10 months the Hollow has been open it's seen massive changes. They were NOT all spread out. There was a long lag there between about February and July first where almost nothing was going on. People started leaving, claiming it was dying out. (Sound familiar?) Over on POF we had a saying for D's response. S.O.O.N. Soon Or Otherwise Never. They'd say new stuff coming soon and it seemed it never did. Then June 29th the Hollow shut down for 16 hours and got an update of epic proportions. Doesn't it make sense they'd do it similarly here?

Second, when I first started paying here I had to call member services. I asked flat out, are you guys letting pirates go. There seems to be a lot of people saying it's dying due to lack of new content. I was told, Yes, new stuff is coming. The longer it takes between updates the bigger the update will be. (This is almost a direct quote thank you.)

Third, so the movie isn't coming out when planned. That only gives D MORE of a reason to keep POTCO going. How else will they keep interest in the movie high? By keeping the game running.

I'll be the first to tell you I don't get how test works, but that there is anything at all there is a good sign. Just before the major update in the Hollow they very quietly released a minor new mini game to the mix. Then BOOM, massive update! Don't hold your breath yet, but I'd say it's time to start crossing fingers again here people.

Jack Sunskull 07-24-2009 06:57 PM

I too tried out POTBS, but I found myself coming back to POTCO. I now sit and wait like others for new Content on POTCO.
