POTCO Speed Limit?
Ive been wondering , with all the new ship speed updates that came out,
what's the fastest you have seen any ship go? For my Sloop of war I got up to 12 knots without using any sailing skills. For my Frigate O'war I got a same 12 knots. For my Galleon of War I got 10 knots to the gallon. Any different for regular or light ships? |
With full ram engaged, I've seen my lite sloop at 15 knots.
|
My War Sloop sails 11 knots without skills.
13 with Full sail. 15 with Ramming speed. |
i have windcatcher rank 5 and me war sloop has gone 15 knots. imagine light sloop
|
on a light sloop with windcatcher I went up to 12 without using full sail or ram speed.
With now points in windcatcher I only get up to 10. I'm not using windcatcher no more until they bring these speeds done. I want to be able to only use 1 sail and crawl across the ocean. I don't like to race across too fast cause it ends up getting me sunk. |
now i think theres some glitch that makes windcatcher useless. they should fix it.

I have full windcatcher. I'll use a light sloop even though there's no difference between sloops, everyone thinks its faster
normal max speed with my full windcatcher and light sloop is 12 knots max speed with full sail is 17 knots with full windcatcher and light sloop MAX SPEED IN POTCO is with light sloop, full windcatcher, and ramming speed: 21 KNOTS. It's amazing |
This is the best way ( That I know of ) to get max speed for the longest distance.
1. Windcaster, Full sail, Ramming speed Rank 5 2. Light Sloop 3. Go to the max without using full sail or ramming speed. 4. Use full sail till half way through and then ramming speed. Full sail to ramming speed gives ramming speed with even more knots!!!:snowball: |
I've been at 20 knots with a Light sloop while doing Ramming speed. With windcatcher maxed, i think thats the highest any ship can reach.
|
The highest u can go is 22 knots with a war sloop and full speed and windcatcher fully upgraded
|
20 knots for a war frigate with maxed windcatcher.

Omg maybe with maxed full sail and ramming speed. That would be a true sight lol.
|
Doesn't upgrading ramming speed and full sail just extend the time at which they last?
|
Both.
And I've been 21 knots in my light sloop :P |

The most significant factor I've seen for ship speed is lag. That is, two identical ships with two sailors of identical levels with identical sailing builds sailing side-by-side will not travel at the same speed.
The game has fixed speeds that skills are supposed to make happen. So, 21 knots in any sloop should be 21 knots. Sailing towards Isla Tormenta from Isla Perdida, I'll often see a Storm Reaper far away. As I near it, smaller ships will also appear - even though they are closer to me, they appear later because they are "shorter." Since the light sloop is "shorter" than the war sloop, other pirates cannot see it from as far away. Therefore, the server doesn't have to relay your position to as many other pirates when you are in a light sloop. The lag (network latency) from your computer, to server, to other pirate's computers, then back to the server, then back to your computer, can sometimes be significant. So, my theory is that the light sloop really is faster in practice, because of the ancillary (minor) lag issues. If all pirate and pirate ship movement were controlled on the server (as one might reasonably expect) instead of on the client, there would be no "speed hack" and movement rates would be consistent. That's my two cents on why the light sloop works better as my "get-me-there-quick" ship. |
I agree with Edward Edgemenace. The Light Sloop has always seemed faster because of the fact that it's a Light Ship ( Although not the significant factor, but that's just what I've always thought ). The Merchant Sloop is slightly slower than the Light Sloop, even though it may not seem so. And the War Sloop is the slowest of the Sloops ( You can't see that it's slower, but it definitely is the slowest ).
The highest speed any ship can go is with Ramming Speed - a War Sloop goes to 21 Knots, a War Frigate to 20, and a War Galleon to ( I believe ) 19. |
