POTCO Winter Olympics
 

Ahoy there mates!

As all the world gathers to test the true valor and strength of their country, pirates prepare to do battle against the forces of Jolly Roger. But we pirates can't let this go by! We, as pirates, love a good ole' competition (plus, we'll need something to do.) So why not bring the Olympics to the Caribbean! This February, pirates from all reaches of the Caribbean are invited to test themselves, and their guild, in the ultimate competition of strength, will, and strategy! Are you prepared to see how you stack up in the Caribbean?

This competition will span across all aspects of the Caribbean, including PvP, SvS, cards, and much more! This is the time where you can truely show the Caribbean if you/your guild are as strong as you think you are! I invite any and all pirates to take part, but be warned - ye'll need to be a pirate of strength and wit to make it to the top. Here be the rules if yer interested:

RULES:

• Glitches, hacks, or any type of cheating which helps your pirate or your game perform better will not be allowed, and if you are caught, it will result in automatic disqualification of you and/or your team.
• Pirates are expected to mantain a sportsman-like atmosphere - booing, arguing or trouble-making of any kind will not be tolerated.
• Once you sign up with a team for the competition, your team stays as is - switches will NOT be allowed unless under certain circumstances.
• The compeition will be seperated in to two divisions: Single pirates and Teams. The events will remain the same in both divisions, the only difference is the number of people you are working with. Please note, if you sign up for one of the divisions, you will not be allowed to sign up for the other division.
• Teams are allowed to be made up of any pirates, whether friends or guild, so as long as teams do not exceed 5 members.
• If a Team chooses to represent their guild, that guild cannot have more than 1 represented team. Still, pirates of that guild that are not in the offical guild team can be a part of another team, or sign up for singles.
• Single pirates and teams are allowed to sign up for as many events as you want. This competition is just for fun, and I want to make sure everybody gets a chance to have fun.)

And now, lets move on to the events themselves! Keep in mind, the open spots below the events are just the beginning, and if more pirates decide to join, I will add positions until it grows to big.

PvP Tournament - Standard tournament rules, pirates will be selected at random to play each other. If you lose, your eliminted. If you win, you move up in the standings. A ref will be present for each match.

SvS Tournament - Pirates who sign up will be randomly selected to join a Privateer team. After 20 minutes of battle, the team with the highest overall score wins. All those pirates move on, and the losing side gets eliminated. This pattern will continue until only 2 ships are left, in which a final 15 minute match will commence. Singles are NOT allowed gunners, and seperate Teams are confined to 1 ship.

Poker Tournament - Pirates will be seperate in to baracks with 2 in each match. The tournament matches will take place in the Ratskellar. When the matches commence, the first pirate to win over 3000 gold will be declared the winner, and move on to the next match. ***This event is SINGLES ONLY! If you are a team, yet wish to participate, select ONE member from your team to compete.***

Ship Races - Standard Grand Prix rules. Pirates will be asked to do 3 laps in a course around the Caribbean. The pirates that come is the top 3 places will then move on to a final race, with a different course. This course will be 3 laps still. The ship that comes in first place will be the winner. Keep in mind, you sink, you lose! ***If you are part of a team, slect ONE member from your team to represent you.***

Scavenger Hunt - Pirates will be asked to find a select of things around the Caribbean. This may include things from finding a certain object, to finding an actual person. Once you find an objective, you will send me a screenshot in a PM, and I will send you the next clue. Its kinda like The Amazing Race, savvy? ***IF YOU ARE CAUGHT SHARING INFORMATION WITH THOSE OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF OR YOUR TEAM, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!***

Capture the Flag - This game takes place on Empty Kingshead. The island will be seperated in to two halves, where one team will take control of one side, and the other the other. Then, teams will designate one person to be there flag, who will remain in a stationary position. Your teams objective is to tag the other teams flag with a voodoo dolls, and make it back to your side without being tagged. Should you be tagged by an opposing team member, you got to jail, and wait to be saved by the members of your team. The rest of the rules will be explained at the day of the competition. If you are a single pirate, you will be grouped up with other singles for a make-shift team, and the competition shall commence just like the SvS tournie. Teams will just stick with their team (of course) and the competition will act like the PvP tournie.

Hide N' Seek Tag (Yes, Hide N Seek in the Olympics) - Pirates will hide throughout an island in the Caribbean. Once they hide, I will come looking for them. If I find you, I will attempt to tag you with my voodoo doll. If you get tagged, you are eliminated. The last pirate standing will be the winner. ***Please keep in mind, teams will be split up. However, if one of the team members wins, the credit will go to the team, divided by the amount of team members.)

How the Competition will be scored:

The competition will be scored by points, based on what rank you/your team came in. Teams and single pirates will be scored seperately. Of course, it will work like this:

1st Place - Gold Medal - 10 Points
2nd Place - Silver Medal - 7 Points
3rd Place - Bronze Medal - 5 Points
Everybody else - 2 Points

The winners of the overall competition in each division will be decided on overall points. If you win, you get nothing but pride, bragging rights, and memories. :)

Why this Competition is being held:

This competition is merely for the fun and enjoyment of all pirates. Don't take this competition overly-serious, its just something to do to keep everybody happy. After all, whats the fun of playing the game if you don't find the game within!

As Lansing would say... I WILL PWN (Own) YOU!!!! Seige charge all you want AM, but heed this ppl, I can fight in the air. Yea I said it, I can sweep, brawl, taunt, and bladestorm in mid-air without glitching... I got proof. So lets duel it out :degen::pirate111za1:

All single players will be seperated at random in to two teams. These two teams will play each other in the game, where the first team to win 2 of 3 rounds wins. The winning team moves on, and the losing team gets eliminated. For the next round, the winning team will then further be seperated in half. If only 2 people are to a team, each team can choose two people from the eliminated team to help, yet once the game is over, those two people head back to the sidelines. This pattern continues until only 2 players are still alive. In the final round, EVERY pirate who participated comes back, and the 2 choose who they want on their team. The first captain to win 2 rounds wins, yet only the winning Captain and losing Captain get the placement points (no 3rd place!) It seems complicated, but when you break it up when we actually play, its real simple :) Besides, I handle it all, so what do you care (besides winning, of course) <_>

The rules will vary from match to match. For example, I may make the first rounds standard blades, no tonic, and then the next round will be all weapons. I'm not gonna tell until the day of the event, so you better make sure you train everything ;)

Ahoy mates! I've managed to plan out the course for the Ship Race! I ask that all pirates who wish to participate in the Ship Race memorize this course:

The course will consist of 3 laps around the course, which will tour you around the Caribbean. You can use any ship that you like, just remember:

• If you sink, you lose!
• Do not hit other racers ships!
• Feel free to engage enemy ships, just remember, it may slow you down, and of course, pay attention to number 1 on the list.
• You ARE NOT allowed to repair your ship.
• I'll be sailing around the Caribbean, along with a few other "hidden" refs, so be sure to stay on course ;)

Ahoy mates! Well, sign-ups are now officially closed, and its time to get ready to compete! First off, I have just a few announcements to make;

ALL COMPETITORS - I just realized, this Sunday is actually Super Bowl Sunday. Seeing as how most will be busy that day (including myself) the contests will begin Saturday, February 6th, other than the 7th.

Allow pirates that were part of Dockwrecker's "Project Oblivion" SvS Team - Due to the fact there were no other teams that signed up, you all have been split up, and put in to the Singles competition.

Now then, the following is a list of all the events, how they will work out, and when.

PvP tournament - Seeing as how we have an odd number of competitors, I decided to set things up a little differently. Instead of setting up a standing system, there will be a series of Mayhem matches. In each match, you will be judged on how well you ranked. Each match, the person ranked last will be eliminated. This will be done until there is only 1 pirate standing. Ganging up on other pirates is NOT allowed!! The tournament will be the first event, starting and ending on Saturday, February 6th. ***See bottom of thread for exact time***

SvS Tournament - The rules have not changed, and can be found on the front page of the thread. Here is the list of those pirates participating, and on which team they will start:

Um today when is it?

Haha mates, no worries. We didn't even do any offical events last night, so its no problem!

HOWEVER, seeing as how virtually the same pirates came as last time, I needed to reward them somehow. SO, last night, an assortment of contestants got the chance to participate in a few mini-games. We kiciked off the night which a foot race around Tortuga, so our pirates could warm their muscles up. In first place, came Erin Nicole (a friend of Sven's,) in second, Sven himself, and in third, Kat Crestshot!

After that, our mates participated in a little ship race, where the refs weren't particularly very good ones, shooting at the contestants and blocking their paths (>:-D) After the pirates finished their last lap, they need to come up and broadside my ship... but would you honestly think I would let them beat my little game? A simple ship race turned in to a race around the Caribbean, ending in a game of cat-and-mouse through Port Royal!

And of course, I wasn't going to let this go to waste - the winners got a few bonus points to jump-start their competition scores! Heres the final rake-ups for last night:

And lastly, I'm going to be adding some more fun to all of this. Seeing as how open spots will be evident, if you are a contestant for another event, or not signed up at all, you are allowed to come and participate if we have open spots. While people outside of the contest will recieve no points (of course,) if you are a contestant and do come, and rank, you will recieve an amount of bonus points. ***First come, first serve!***

The SvS was fun,I did leave for a time but I put a young commander in my stead for the rest of the time.My apologies to Jag Wire Jones for me impulsive outbusrst,I was just being a madman of a French stratigiser,overcomplicating it really.I hope we could have the next games in 2012 in the summer perhaps,but this one is still running strong.(Next time ye plan on one Del PM me and we can form if ye want an Olympic Board so we can run even more things.)And is it me or are the closing cerimonies the same place where the book got burned... :)

Ok, I just showed (albeit late, sorry) for the poker tournament and nobody was around. Was it cancelled?

I waited a little over the 7:00 PM EST mark, but still nobody was there. So, the Poker Tournament has been cancelled. However, the ship race is still on for 8:15, so it would be nice for there to be a lot of activity for that ;) See ya there!

Mates, thank you all so much for the great times during these Olympics. Thank you so much to Captain Del for setting it up and to everyone who competed or watched. It was great fun, albeit difficult at times, but if it wasn't, it wouldn't have been as wonderful. I'm so happy for my medal, but I didn't even need it. I'll remember these events and all of the people. Thanks guys!
