They said it will be in open water so its not going to be a treasure map game!
I AM SO HAPPY that they are making it open water cause you know i wouldnt wanna work that long to fight the kraken like the black pearl boss battle you know what im saying?

I hope this is good news to you guys.

Garret

Sven Osymthe 04-11-2010 05:03 PM

Umm, they didn't say that they were gonna put it on open water, they said:

That doesn't mean that it will be that way, it means that it could be that way. They are just replying to your message, saying that the idea is a possibility.

Personally, when/if it comes, I would want it to be on the open seas, and in a treasure map. The treasure map makes it feel more like you earned it, or at least someone did. If it was just on open seas, then it makes it feel more like the fleets, invasions, and that type of stuff. Kinda makes the quest seem pointless.

None the less.. thanks for sharing.

Dan_OB 04-11-2010 05:49 PM

Yeah, Sven is right. All they are saying in essence is, "Yeah that would be cool." but nothing more. A little skepticism and close scrutiny is wise with any message from Disney.

Though I'm not as enthusiastic about the Kraken as many here, I'd prefer it as a treasure map event if for no other reason, if it is buggy it shouldn't mess up the whole game.

But I appreciate your sharing this as well.

Jamesvsthekraken 04-11-2010 06:13 PM

Yeah, having it on a treasure map it wouldnt feel crowded cause everyone would be trying to defeat the kraken like they do with Jolly Roger on ideal servers. So i agree it should be a treasure map, i also recommended to them eventually making the invasions treasure maps to do for fun when there isnt an invasion and for people who cant make it on for them. They certainly liked that idea. :) lol. :laughks2::piratewheelgo2::bookishfj7:

Dan_OB 04-11-2010 06:24 PM

Good idea James, that would make a great Guild activity.

The Skirata Clan 04-11-2010 06:31 PM

I love Disney answers! They agreed with you. But didn't say if they were even working on it or thinking about it.

So yes, the kraken would be coming soon.

And Please No More Kraken Threads!

Buck Seahawk 04-11-2010 06:34 PM

Aww I want it to be a Treasure Map boss. But you never know. It's not a true boss unless it's part of the story quest!!!

Kraken Guard 04-11-2010 06:39 PM

But there already is a Kraken in game :( -Points down at Signature-

Anyways, about Kraken's and stuff? I would rather prefer it be like the Black Pearl boss battle. Would be cool to have it come out after you once you set sail in the Uncharted Waters.

Thank you but the credit goes to Mark Bladeflint who i believe shared with me the idea. :):piratewheelgo2::bookishfj7:

*whipsers to himself* I'm getting sick of this giant squid by now...

Disney only says these things to make sure you stick with the game. They aren't guaranteeing the Kraken will be in Open Waters, or a Treasure Map. Heck, theres a possibility it won't be in game at all!

You can't always try to look for hidden messages in the information Disney gives you, because sometimes, when a hidden message ISN'T intended, one person who "finds" one will go a bit overboard on spreading the "information."

Couldn't have said better myself!

I really hate being a thief of joy here. But the wild speculation on the Kraken is getting just plain silly.

The letter from Disney in the OP only said one thing. Let me translate.

stonk if we had to do a quest to fight it.

It would stonk if we had to do a quest? I am having problems with this. If the big, smelly squid-thing DOES show up? it had BETTER be a part of a long, arduous, thrill-packed, non-stop, action-filled, joy ride of a new quest. Otherwise? The Kraken is Dead On Arrival.

This is what Bob thinks what is going to happen if the Kraken comes out to fast...

I think that everyone is just going to get bored after a while of it. I do want the Kraken to come out, but I don't want Disney to rush it. If they rush it, then it's going to be full of gliches and won't be fun.

CarribeanThunder 04-11-2010 11:02 PM

If the Kraken were to be in the open seas, then, as mentioned by Jamesvsthekraken, it would be somewhat crowded, and having it in a Treasure Map would be better.

In fact, it'd probably be worse than what Toontown had to deal with in that room when you're ready to fight the VP - hard to be able to actually GET to fight the VP. So having the Kraken battle in a Treasure Map form would be a wiser choice as everyone's not crowding around.

MacIronhawk 04-11-2010 11:34 PM

Thunder, you're right.

And in the server Nutty River, that's probably the most crowded area you could be in. In fact, some people can spend hours before they actually get a group and get to go into the battle.

If the Kraken isn't a boss battle, what will end up happening is probably ten times as big as the EITC fleets. It will be so crowded you'll end up having possibly hundreds of ships around the monster just to fight him.

Cannonfury 04-11-2010 11:36 PM

Chapter* there fixed :D

rofl thats so true with things now a days. :laughks2:

Angel Seafish 04-12-2010 01:54 AM

And that is exactly what would happen! LOL

blaster54 04-12-2010 02:48 AM

LOL yeah i guess and i didnt mean to bring up the kraken.
And ur so right all they want is to take are money and keep us in the game longer there will be no kraken. No davy jones. They wanna toy with us cause by now they have been promising us for 2 years the kraken by now they could have made one buy now i mean LOOK there making new weapons, there making invasions and EITC ship lines,AND THERE EVEN MAKING NEW TORTUGA PORT ROYAL AND PADRES DEL FUEGO!

if they acually want customers they would do it and Call of the Kraken was not what we were talking about!

Sven Osymthe 04-12-2010 03:00 AM

Well if they stay true to their word, the Kraken should be coming soon. Not that it is even significant, but it's still a possibility.

Their reasons behind redesigned islands, and an inventory - to increase game performance. They said they needed that to get the Kraken ready. And they needed that, cause that's the main point of the second story quest.

Still.. I don't even think this game needs the Kraken. Sure, it would be fun, but it would be just like that cartoon above - people would get bored with it after the first few times. If anything, they need to do what some other games do, if they want to keep certain types of members (the ones who are just here for quests, etc. - not that it's a bad thing). What I mean, they need a large story quest, that ties in a lot of side quests along the way. That story quest could even throw in a few boss battles here and there. Sorta like what they have now, except the side quests are actually significant to the story, and the story is long enough to take more than a week of serious gaming.

blaster54 04-12-2010 04:11 AM

yeah i guess...
I gotta say though i think it is so dumb not to put it out now. They dont even know what we want no offence but there idiots. And ill tell you one thing i will never get bored of fightning the kraken :P

angel 4ever 04-12-2010 04:14 AM

cool ideas and cool stuff i hope they do get it

For one, I don't think they're dumb not to put it out now. Right now, they're working with El Patron's Weapons release. People will be (mostly) content with that for awhile, unless, as Sven said, you're one of the gamers who focuses on the quests. However, if they were to release it TONIGHT with El Patron's Weapons, no glitches or anything, that wouldn't be the smartest thing to do. They would then be stuck at square one a month later, once everyone has defeated the Kraken and gotten a bunch of new weapons.

For two, they do know what we want. Why do you think we have new weapons? They're releasing those after people going on and on about them before. They do respond to us. However, it's also like ex8404 said: When you send them something asking about the Kraken, they'll respond in a way that will please you, but doesn't really mean a whole lot. You have to remember that POTCO is a company, and companies focus around the money.

For three (and this is my last point, I promise), I'm sure people said the same thing when they reached the boss battle for the current story quest. They wouldn't get bored. What happened? They got bored. It's just as Mark portrayed with Bob-o the Weirdo so aptly put in his comic. This comes back to the whole "they can't release it right now" thing. People will get bored too quickly.

I, for one, wouldn't mind the Kraken being in the game, but if they come up with a second story quest that doesn't have it, I'll be fine with that too. If everything they've done up to this point is for the second story quest with the Kraken in it, that would be awesome. Right now, though, I'll focus on El Patron's Weapons.

Kat Five Knives 04-12-2010 10:42 AM

First of all I need to say that Mark, your cartoon is funny but essentially correct. And EX.. your translation of the big D letter was hysterical LOL

Kat (Crestshot) I agree with you. They DO know what we want.. at least for those of us who filled out the survey sent to us a few months ago. I told them exactly what I wanted. If you did not fill out the survey, you only have yourself to blame if the things you want are not added to the game.

I'm sure they are working on a Chapter 2 (otherwise, it would be DUMB to have a "Chapter 1"). Let's just enjoy what we have here, look forward to the new weapons, and provide constructive criticism when things are not the way you want it. Otherwise, your rants are pointless.

You are lucky. You get correspondense from disney. I have never seen a survey, beginners packet, 3D glasses, Kraken game code or a response to emails. I am ranting now? I do not think so just stating fact.:mybadki6:

Mark bladeflint 04-12-2010 04:10 PM

I got a survay from D... And a Beginners present thing ( But it's out of date ), I never got 3D glasses, I got my Call of the Kraken Code, and once in a while i'll get my e-mails back from Disney... Are you sure that your a member? D said that they only gave the survay to people that have been playing a long time, the beginners thing is waaaay out of date ( It has a map of the old Port Royal ._. ), barly anyone got 3D glasses, and they sent the Kraken game code to members. Idk about the e-mail though.

Right now, i'm just happy that they made a new update, and it's a fun one too. I know i'm going to be playing live Mark more often now because of the new updates coming... :P.

~Mark Bladeflint~

Eliza Creststeel 04-12-2010 04:59 PM

Wow...

That letter said absolutely nothing. Thank you for posting it though. Honestly, I think WAAAAY too many people are assuming that the Kraken will somehow MAKE the game. That everything up til now won't possibly match how incredible it will be.

I think people are deluding themselves. They also short-sell all of the updates that are coming and that are on test - plus other areas they've hinted at.

The Kraken can go to Hades if it's holding up everything else.

I did not get my 3-D glasses or my code to Call of the Kraken. I called them and they took care of it.

I suggest you do same.

For some of us, the survey wasn't feasible. I tried to fill out the survey but they cut mine short after giving them the demographic information. Oh well. :erti101:
