The Mysteries of Devil's Anvil
Well, I haven't really worked on any stories for a while, so here we are.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Prologue It was a dark day. The seas were choppier than ever. Mist swirled around the entire ocean, threatening to eat anything it could, to confuse sailors. No ships were brave enough to sail in this water. Whenever people tried to sail in a mist so thick, they get lost. Stranded. Gone. Even the Navy wasn't brave enough to set sail. Nor the EITC. A group of Navy Soldiers were stranded on an uninhabited island, except for one person who resides in a small grotto area. The soldiers were marching to that cave to arrest said person, when all of a sudden, a swirling cloud of mist surrounded the entire island. The soldiers couldn't even see a centimeter in front of them. Glancing around, one soldier saw a shadow in the distance, cutting through the mist. It was a ship. Unlike any ever seen on the seven seas. Soon enough, all the other soldiers noticed this strange ship, cutting through the mist quite easily, as a knife cuts through butter. The horde of soldiers didn't worry because "There is no way the inhabitants of said ship could see said island, supporting said person and said soldiers," said one soldier. The captain of the group of soldiers slapped that soldier for suggesting something so silly. "Only super seeing could see this forsaken island that holds the mysteries that we have heard." As the ship approached, the mist lightened and they could see the ship running aground easier than they cut through the water, rolling right over the sand straight at the soldiers! The soldiers loaded their bayonets and tried to shoot the ship. "Blast! The mist made our gunpowder wet!" yelled one soldier, dropping his bayonet and dashing off into the mist. The other soldiers cowered as well, except for the captain of the search party. "You cowards! Come back here!! If the general finds out, I'll be hung!" he ranted. "Aye, and that be what we want," said a mysterious shadow holding a pistol. He slowly pulled the trigger, pointing it straight as his the captain's heart. It hit dead-on, even though he tried to run away. He fell to his knees, then face-first into the sand. The shadowed figure motioned his hand, pointing at the dead captain and giant scorpions carried the body off to his ship. "Aye, my work here be done...." he muttered as he walked off. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Hope you liked it! Please leave a comment, and if you see any spelling or grammar mistakes, please let me know! (I'm a perfectionist:bookishfj7: ) |
Very good story, good detail. But I'd like to see more of a surrounding details part. Like there were trees in the distance, islands off in the far directions wherever you looked, the sand was dry, with a hint of gravel in it.
Something similiar like that. It makes the scene more realistic. |
@_@ You can't see the islands, there was a mist -.- I put in important details, and this was only the prologue.
|
I like it....the scorpions doing the heavy lifting is a nice little detail...more please.
|
Thanks!
Spoiler alert!! You'll be seeing more of those scorpions. |
Chapter One
Grace stumbled out of the cabin of her newly made ship, fresh wood, nails, no rust, and no barnacles anywhere on the ship. The fog had lifted from a few days ago, so she could set sail to Tortuga from Port Royal. She only had a small Light Galleon, so it wasn't too hard to get all the sails up. She was the Governor's daughter, and she had to check in on some of the soldiers stationed on the tree-filled, pirate-ridden island. She scowled at the thought. "Why do I have to do this," she mumbled. "Why can't General Mal do it?" She manned the wheel, as she was the only one on the ship. She got her bearings, then set sail for Tortuga. She headed straight there, not noticing the thick cloud of random mist swirling right in the middle of the ocean. She was still groggy from sleeping, which is NOT a good time to sail a ship. She sailed right through the cloud of mist, and she felt a bump. Then another. Soon enough, she could see wood splintering at the front of the ship! She tried to turn the wheel, but nothing happened! She ran to the side of the boat, looking down, seeing water. She looked straight ahead. She saw a shadow in the mist. It got closer. She was running aground! In panic, she pulled out a pistol and tried to shoot some rope so she could swing off the ship. She clicked the trigger, then clicked again. Nothing. She looked, and there was no bullet. "Budget cuts," she muttered under her breath." She jumped. Soon after she jumped, she splashed into the water. She was pulled by the tide onto the shore of the mysterious mist-covered island. She noted that the tide was pulling into the island, not away, so she had no hope of leaving this deserted beach. She wandered around, trying to find a place should could rest during the tide. She found a cave on one side of the island. She went inside, and she gasped. It was filled with treasure! Gold, gems, other coins, and many other valuables. In one corner, there was an entire stack of pistols. Loaded, she assumed. She waded across the water to the center of the little grotto. There was a small stream running around the center of it. She explored the small grotto, grabbing a handful of treasure, gold dust she guessed, and it ran through her fingers like sand. She was facing the wall, feeling like she was being watched. "Who collected all this treasure?" she wondered aloud. "I did." Grace spun around quickly, frightened by the sudden speech. "Wh-who are you?" she asked, frightened. "That doesn't matter. All I can tell you is this be MY grotto, and I don't take kindly to any person barging in unexpected. Unless.." "Un-unless wh-what?" Grace interrupted. "Unless.. ye be a pirate," he replied, a smirk growing on his face. "I'm no pirate! I am the Port Royal's governor's daughter!" she protested. "Aye, I see. Well, then I have to kill ye." He pulled a black, shiny, polished pistol from his belt, aimed it, and placed his finger on the trigger. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope you liked it! Chapter Two will be up another time, but first, I need comments! |
Oh god that was scary. :P
GREAT GREAT AND GREAT. Hopefully you'll post tomorrow again. that would be nice :P |
Very nice, Rose! I liked how you left the readers hanging at the end there.
Just one word for ya: paragraphs. You might wanna break up those big blocks of text in to smaller, more managable paragraphs, so it doesn't look like the story is constantly jumbling around. |
Wrong story. Wrong person.
I fixed it, look at it now @_@ |
Chapter Two
"Aye, I see. Well, then I have to kill ye." He pulled a pistol from his belt, aimed it, and put his finger on the trigger. He slowly pulled the trigger. Grace stood there, petrified. The gun shot, but it was moving slowly. "What be this?! Some kind of black magic!?" the pirate yelled. The bullet was surrounded by a droplet of water, moving with the bullet, slowing it's path. Grace heard something whisper to her: "Move, quickly!" Grace did as she was told. She stepped out of the path of the bullet, letting it clink against the wall behind her. "Arrgh!! I don't know what ye did, but you won't be able to do it much longer!!" He pulled out another pistol and shot both at the same time. The bullets flew out, but clinked to the ground even before they could get close to Grace. "Run...." the voice said to her, in a scratchy spirit voice. "But..." Grace stuttered. "Who are you?" "I am but a spirit, now, RUN!" the spirit commanded. Grace refused. "I will not! I can't leave the island, and the pirate will find me if I do." The pirate pulled out two tri-barrels. Loading, them he prepared to shoot. "I can only help you once more, and that's it..." the spirit mystified. The pirate was about to pull the triggers, when suddenly both pistols floated from his hand and landed on the floor next to Grace. "ARG!!!! I don't know WHAT ye be doin', but GET OUT OF MY GROTTO!" the pirate yelled, throwing rocks at Grace. Grace picked up the tri-barrels and pulled the trigger on one. It shot without trouble. She then shot the other. Without trouble. It must really be the spirit, she thought. She shot them in unison, aiming at the pirate so not to hurt him, but to scare him off. Maybe, if I can scare this pirate out of his home, I can live here until I can repair my ship, and leave... She aimed at his hat, shot, and the hat flew off his head. "ARR!! That's it!!" the pirate yelled, pulling out all of the pistols he had and flinging them at Grace like rocks. Grace shot each and every one of them flying at her with ease, aiming with precision. Each one exploded in the air. Oddly enough, the shrapnel from the explosion went back towards the pirate, but not towards Grace at all. "Ye be truly a pirate, not a governor's daughter! When word of this gets out, your reputation be ruined!!" the pirate ranted at Grace. Truly, I must be a pirate, she thought. With one last steam, the pirate stormed out of the grotto, kicking up water as he left. Grace walked around, figuring out ways to rearrange the grotto to make it look like cheese, when a green mist started forming in the center of the cave. "Hello, Grace..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hope ya liked it, hopefully if you didn't, you'll keep reading. It'll get better! Please, comment :) |
very nice! :)
Nice story! ( I speed read )
|
Wow! I'm really interested in this story now! I like how you're leaving the reader hanging right there. The spirits thing is really interesting too! Haha, and chasing Barbossa out of his grotto was really hilarious.
|
This might get interesting. Keep writing. I know I won't. At least for a while.
You implied it. The only grotto on Devil's Anvil is Barbossa's Grotto, and the pirate said it was 'his grotto'.
|
Ah but it's a story. It could have happened before Barbossa or after Barbossa. It might not even follow the game's rules.
|
True enough. Carry on.
Chapter Three
"Hello, Grace..." the mist said. "Wh-who are you??" Grace stuttered, frightened by the speaking mist. "I am but a spirit. I have come to warn ye... This grotto be cursed! Every full moon, this grotto turns blood red.. and The Master comes to perform his rituals here... I suggest you leave, as the full moon be tonight..." "NO! I just chased that pirate out of here, crashed my ship on this barren island, and who is this "Master" you speak of? HUH?" "I must not speak his name.. for, if he even finds out that I be tellin' ye this, I will be seperated from me spirit form... "What? What are you saying?! I demand an answer!" "I would if I could but I can't so I won't. Although, I can tell ye this. Below the gold pile over thar," he pointed, "be a whole stock of Invisibility potions. The previous owner of this here grotto used them every full moon.." "Potions?? Seriously?! I come here, chase a pirate out of here..." "I know. But I can only warn ye. From here on out..." The spirit got cut off. Grace looked out through the entrance of the grotto. It was orange outside. "Sunset.." she muttered, digging through the pile of gold that covered the invisibility potions. "I'll regret this one day...:ahoy:" The potion engulfed her body, and she started coughing, trying to swallow it. The sun set. In her ear, she heard: Every full moon. The master must come. To this poor grotto. That holds spirits, some. Some seek answers. Some seek treasure. Some seek weapons. Some seeks pleasure. This grotto. Fairly found. Must be lit. From roof to ground. "What's that supposed to mean?" she wondered aloud. Then she got her answer. A beam of moonlight bounced off the entrance of the cave, ricocheting around the entire room. It reflected off the pieces of gold, water, and strangely the cave walls. When the light stopped reflecting, it turned blood-red. Grace, invisibly hidden in the corner, caught a scream. A man, clothed with fur of wolves, head of bear, and tail of scorpions, strided into the room. "Ah. This be what I wait for, every Moon Cycle. This be it," he muttered. He walked to the center of the room. He placed some twigs in the center of the room, muttered an incantation of some sort, and the small twigs burst into flames. He swiped at a pile of gold, sending gold flying into the fire. Grace held back a yell. "What be this I hear? A human, perhaps? Oh, this will go well with my collection..." he walked straight at Grace. Right before he got there, some gold fell on the opposite side of the room. His attention was diverted by the gold avalanche, so he went back to his work. The flames grew larger, turning the room a darker shade of red. Mist filled the cave, causing the entire room un-seeable. "Leave while you can.." Grace heard in her ear. "This may be your only chance, as your potion be about to wear off..." Grace felt a cough coming on, so she fled from the cave through the mist, searching for the entrance without a sound. As soon as she burst from the mist-filled cave, she started coughing uncontrollably. "Aye, I be right. There WAS a human in my cave. Hello, young lady...." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's the end of chapter three! Hope ya like it! |
. _ . NICE STORY!!!! I like the forshadowing there :)
Thanks, I do my best :)
Chapter Four
"Aye, I be right. There WAS a human in my cave. Hello, young lady...." the distorted animal said. "Ye shall be a nice addition to me collection!" "Wh-what? What collection? I'm no pirate..." Grace stuttered, frightened. "Aye, ye will be great for it!" he exclaimed. He took out a staff of four sticks that twisted around each other, with a green orb perched carefully on top. "Now, I must.. er.. sacrifice yer soul so I may have yer body." He raised the staff, and a black hole started forming at the top of it. Grace pulled out, without thinking, her two pistols, loaded them with a steel bullet, and shot at the orb at the top. The world seemed to slow down as the black hole's power increased. She started gasping for breath. Grace felt weak, and she fainted from the overpowering power of the black hole. The last thing she heard was the *SNAP* of wood. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "That poor soul.. will she wake up soon?" "Shhhh.. she needs to rest.." "But.." "I don't care if your pie is burning, we must stay near!" "Erm..." Grace muttered. "She's awaking!' "That's a surprise, she must have a pure soul if she was to survive that horrid beast he summoned..." "What beast? Who are you?" Grace demanded, groggy from her passing out. "Shh... you need to rest." "Why can't we tell her who we are?" "All will be explained in good time.. In good time, my dear Grace. Now rest." "I will not! Tell me who you are!" Grace yelled as loud as she could, half-asleep. "Can't we tell her?" "No. We must wait. This is something she must figure out herself." "But.. what if.." "That can't happen." Grace felt her eyes grow heavier than they were on those words, and she passed out once again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's chapter four! Please post comments, I need feedback! Hopefully, if I feel up to it, I will write chapter five.:zn3lnn: |
Chapter Five
Grace woke up, lying down on the cave floor. "How did I get here?" Grace wondered aloud. She stood up, slowly, as to not fall over. She walked over to the small stream running along the cave and got something to drink. Surprisingly, it was safe. She grabbed a pistol from a pile of pistols in the corner and strided outside into the sunlight. It was brighter than usual. She pulled out her pistol, loaded it with a couple shots, and wandered around the beach, shooting crabs whenever she came across them. She was collecting the crab meat. It wasn't the most appealing choice, but it was all she had. She gathered up the meat and returned to her cave. She started a fire and cooked the crab meat. Surprisingly, it was the best thing she had tasted. (She was really hungry.) When she finished her meal, she stepped outside the cave. She looked at where she was faced with the challenge the night before. There lay four sticks, in perfect shape. She picked them up, and returned to her cave. It was a cold day that day, even though the sun was out. She had to keep a fire roaring, or she would freeze. The cave didn't help either. Caves are always cold, and the fact that it was a windy day didn't make it any better. She placed the four sticks in the fire. She left the cave to go find more sticks. When she returned to the entrance of the cave, she saw it was smoking. "NO! Don't burn!!" She ran inside as fast as lightning, ran to the stream, got some water, and threw it at the fire. That just made it burn harder. "NO! Not now!!" The smoke was getting thicker, and Grace started coughing. "No! This is the only place I have to live on this forsaken island!!" She ran outside, yelling in anger at how she could just leave the fire roaring like that. Coughing, she fell to the sand. "Wait a minute.. this is where I was yesterday..." She ran her finger under the sand, and found the four sticks she put into the fire under a thin layer of sand. "What... didn't I.. burn these?" She picked up the sticks, and tried to twist them together. That's when she saw that there was a piece of paper on the sand. "Only those of true spirit may twist these." "What's tha supposed to mean?" She twisted the sticks together. They went easily, and stuck. A green mist surrounded her. "Ah, finally! I can breathe! Hello, Pure of Spirit..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not much happened, but TRUST ME! It will speed up. You might even get to see a little :treas: or :hiuf3::buds: |
:psmiley27:AWESOME!!! anticipating the next part keep it up !!:laughks2:
