The Story Of Solomon O'shot

This is my first attempt at a story, tell me if anything needs editing or more attention.

Chapter 1

Solomon O'shot wasnt born in the caribbean like most pirates you here about. Solomon was born on an island in the North Atlantic Ocean. Solomon grew up in a wealthy trades family that traded goods to the sailors that would dock here. At the age of 6 his mother had died. His family now consisted of his dad, sister and himself. Nothing really happened up until a week after his 12th birthday

After his 12th birthday his father died of what the local doctor said was a heart attack. Solomon was adopted into another family. His life had gone from good to bad. Another week after that, Solomon found him on the beach, under the hot sun, watching the huge ship that swayed and bobbed in the water that had docked that morning. He spotted a family friend working n the shallows, casting ropes at the rowboats making there way to shore.

Solomon waded into the icy, crystal blue water next to him. "Where do they come from, and where are they headed" Solomon asked his friend, James Mcrage.
"They are british and they are headid towards Port Royal, in the caribbean" he had replied. This Solomon thought was his oppurtunity to get away from the island and go see more of the world. "Stop wondering yer fool and help me get these fine men to shore" snapped James. Solomon took the rope that was being offered to him and cast it towards a rowboat.

When he had pulled the rowboat in. The leader of the boat, whom also revealed himself to be Captain asked where he could buy local exports. Solomon pointed down the beach, past some trees, to the market and said "There you can find something you might be looking for"
"Thank'ee" replied the captain

Later that day Solomon bumped into the captain again. "Say, have I met you before" inquired the Captain
"Aye," Solomon Said, "My names Solomon sir, it is a honor to meet you"
"Nice to meet you Solomon, my names Captain John Blastgun, you seem to be fond of sailing, would you like to come out to the caribbean with me, but first yer need to ask yer parents" he told Solomon, Solomons mind was racing, this was his oppitunity, he glanced around his home island, at the familiar faces, at his sister. then said "I would love to come, you not be needing to worry about my parents, they had died some time previously" The Captain sent him off to get anything he wanted before boarding the ship La Revanche des Brouillards

Chapter 2

The ship had cast off, his home island was being swallowed by the horizon. After the Captain had heard Solomon's Story about his family he had adopted him as his own son. The Crew of La Revanche des Brouillards grew fond of Solomon.

Solomon loved hearing stories abouth the ocean. Anytime he had to spare, Solomon would try and presuade Henry Seaflint to tell him a stroy, Henry's stories were the best, it could be about people that were half fish to people that were dead yet still haunted the caribbean. the crew was surprised to find Solomon extremely talented with the sword. He had revealed that when he was old enough and strong enough to lift a sword his dad had taught him how to weild one.

The crew soon started calling Solomon, Solo. This was because of hs name and the fact that he tried to do alot of stuff on his own. Solo soon learnt how to raise sails, steer the ship, play poker and other stuff aboard the La Revanche des Brouillards.

One foggy night, after everybody had gone to sleep Solo woke up. This was unusuall for him. He listened to the creak and moans of the ship, and the splash of water outside. What was wrong, he thought. He slowely got up and made his way to the upper deck. There he found Henry Seaflint on guard duty by the wheel. As he made his was over Henry said "You have that feeling too? me mum says it be me sixth sense, like I know that im being watched or folowed or Im not alone" He looked at Solo for a long minute, the icy spray of the ocean in his face, his beard flapping in the wind. "You look paly, maybe ye should head back below decks"
"Aye" replied Solomon, but as he said it, out of the corner of his eye he spotted a ship, heading for them.

Good! I see some typo errors on the first line its Horizon. Second line needs to be spelled haunted.

Chapter 3

As Solo pointed Henry looked over, his eyes wide with shock. Some other crew that were on guard duty looked in that direction as well. It was a ship with a black flag and a skull & crossbones,a pirate ship! Solomon was the first to re-act ringing the alarm bell. Soon the deck was flooded by a ocean of crewmen. The captain was at the helm issueing orders to the crew. They started loading starboard cannons, waiting for an order.

The two ships started circuling each other. The captain of La Revanche des Brouillards was first to order, yelling FIRE! Cannons boomed and wood flying, none damage was yet to come to La Revanche des Brouillards but the other ship was very badly damaged, in fact Solomon noticed this wasn't even a war ship. The enemy ship tilted to the side that had taken damage, before long the ship was floating on its starboard side. Another broadside fired rom Solomon's ship and again the ship took more damage.

The battle was over, no damage had come to their ship what-so-ever, not much could be said of the crew, Solomon had taken a nasty cut from a piece of shrapnel and so had other Navy and Sailors. The pirate ships lay in ruins. Captain John orderd the crew to search for survivors, stating that it was his duty in the navy to help others including pirates. After a while the searchers returned, Solo had not gone with them for the Captain had said he was too young.

The captain got off the rowboat and walked towards Solo. in his had was beautiful swor. It had a gold pommel, with a blue saphire on the very end, where the blade met the pommel was three diamonds as well. The sword was a dark grey and near the end it widened before forming a sharp point. "I know its not right to steal, but one of the pirates gave this to me asking to spare his life," stated Captain John "I want ye to have it"
"Thank'ee" Replied Solo, very grateful. The sun reflected off the sword, which made it look like it was sparkling. Along with the sword, the crew had capture 13 men that were thrown into the brigg.

The sun was peeking over the horizon by the time they set sail. Most crew opted not to go to sleep again since they would wake up in a hour or two. There was a cool breeze along with the warm sunlight. Solomon had climbed the crows nest and watched the wrekage that lay a distance behind him. Then he noticed the cut on his arm, when he recieved it it didnt look that bad, now in the light he could see it all. The cut streched from above his elbow to his wrist. it was oozing blood, a watery substance and some yellow substance as well. The pain was unbearable, Solo even thought he saw some wood inside the wound...

titanic95594 10-13-2010 05:38 AM

Interesting chapter!

Solomon O 10-13-2010 06:06 AM

Special thanks to my fellow guild mates for inspiring me :)

Chapter 4

Solomon gingerly made his way down from the crows nest. When his feet alighted upon the deck Captain John came marching over. "Hey, Solo, I nee-" he paused mid speech when his eyes fell upon the wound. "You need to get that checked out by the surgeon" he stated. The Captain quickley marched Solomon below decks to the ship's surgeon.

After a couple minutes in the surgeon's room Solo cam out with rags wrapped aroud his arm. Captain John was waiting for him outside. "How goes it?" he asked.
"If it aint looking better by Wednesday they will amputate my arm" Solomon grumbled. The Captain stared wide-eyed at Solomon, "Ok" he said after a minute's worth of brooding.

Later that week, after the surgeon told Solomon he can keep his arm, Solo found himself in the crows nest with Henry Seaflint. it was a icy night, the wind was blowing like it never had before, the moon was high in the cloudless sky, illuminating the surroundings. Henry tapped Solo on the shoulder. Solomon looked at him, only to find him holding a telescope out to him. Solomon took the telescope. "About 4 degrees off starboad" said Henry with new-found excitement. Solo looked throught the telescope and against the dark sky was a darker shape. It was a shape Solo had seen plenty of times in paintings aboard the ship. It was Port Royal.

The captain, seeing and hearing the excitement called up to the crows nest, "Problems?"
"Nay, Captain, thar be land 4 degrees off starboard!" yelled Solo. The captain took out his own spyglass and looked, a moment later he was yelling orders to turn in that direction.

3 days later the ship was anchored some distance off land. Solomon found himself eager to help unload cargo into rowboats and row towards land. A hour after porting Solo found himself touching dry-land again. Port Royal was a beautiful town. It was like nothing Solo had ever seen before. There were magnificent houses, a ever greater fort - which Solo reconised as Fort Charles - that had shining cannons pointed out to sea, there was a low fog on the ground, children ran by, luaghing with pleasure, a dog barked somewhere.

Solomon jumped as somebody laid a hand on his shoulder, it was the captain. "Be a beautiful town, aint it not?" he asked Solomon
"It is maginificent" Solomon stated without hesitation. "I wonder-" Solomon was cut off as some Navy Soldiers, that he recognised from the ship, marched into the fort. Solomon continued speaking "I wonder if all towns in the caribbean are as great as this one"
"Some are, some aren't, others I dont know" Said the captain. "Come let me show you our home"

Chapter 5

Solomon was led by Captain John to the center of town. The more Solomon saw the more he liked it here in Port Royal. His new house was across the dirt road from a busy looking Gunsmith. As Solomon entered his new home he was amazed. This place was nothing like any of the houses they had on his home island, no, it was 100 times better. In the first room of the house there was a table that was littered with papers of importance. There was a picture of Captain John’s ship La Revanche des Brouillards on the wall. Behind the table was a expensive looking couch in front of a fire place. In the corner of the house was a spiral staircase that led to the second floor. When you came up the stairs you walked into room with another table with even more papers on it. There were three doors here; on led to the balcony, another led to the master bedroom, the last led to a empty room with a single table in the corner.

“This will be your room, Solomon, I will get you a bed and more stuff in here as soon as possible” said the captain
“Ok, I got one question though, where do we do our business?” asked Solomon
“What business?” asked the confused Captain
“You know, like the toilet” Stated Solo
“Oh, that will be done outside in a outhouse”

The rest of the day was spent tracking down a spare bed for Solo. That night when Solomon climbed into his comfortable bed, his mind was full of questions, What will happen now that we are in port royal?, Will we ever go out on the ship again?

He woke early that morning; somewhere a cat meowed, Solo looked out his window. The town was lying under a morning fog only the tops of houses punctured the thick mist, the fort – lying on top of the hill was untouched, and the masts from various ships could also be seen. Solomon slowly and quietly crept downstairs to find the captain already awake. “Happy Birthday,” he said. With all the excitement Solo had forgotten today was that special day of the year, he was 13 now.
“Here, I got you this last night” The captain handed Solo a masterly crafted pistol, It had 3 barrels that could shoot 3 times before reloading
“Thank you”
“You’re welcome, Solo”

The next month Solomon spent on the island he enjoyed, the first week he was lonely and had nothing to do but wonder the streets. Until one day he met another kid of the same age named Hector Blastspinner. Hector and Solo made great friends, soon Solo spent nearly everyday with Hector, whether it be fishing or working for money they spent a lot of time together and soon were very good friends. Everything was great until Captain John revealed he was leaving on an important mission to track down and sink 3 pirate ships and also Solomon was not to be coming with him.

Solomon O 10-13-2010 08:39 AM

Chapter 6

For the next month Solomon waited impatiently for news to come of the Captain. They had left 2 weeks after Solo’s birthday. They left with an impressive size fleet, consisting of 10 Ships of the line including the Revanche des Brouillards (which was also a SOTL) and 20 War Frigates. It was planned that the fleet would launch then head out towards Tortuga – an island which Solo had been told was a pirate hangout – halfway there they would break up into smaller fleets of 3, each smaller fleet would have 1 SOTL, The Revanche des Brouillards was with two ships named Elite and Man-O-War.

During the time Solomon spent waiting, he lived under the care of Hector’s Parents. Solo had learnt that he was now old enough to join the navy. Hector didn’t seem that fond of joining the navy though. Solomon however thought he might since it was Captain John’s dream for him to join the navy.

A week into the second month of waiting, some of the fleet returned. They were 2 short. One of the missing ships was Captain John’s. Despair filled Solo when he saw this. Secretly he hoped that The Revanche des Brouillards and The Elite were just a little behind. However the news that the captain of the Man-O-War brought shattered that hope into billions of pieces. The captain slowly walked up to Solomon knowing Captain John would have wanted Solo to be this first to be told:

“Solomon, Your ‘Father’ was a great man. When we spotted the pirate ships he wasn’t afraid to go into war. He yelled the first orders to us. It was a grave battle for him. We were winning; John led the first boarding party onto a pirate ship brining most of the crew with him. The assault went well until reinforcements flooded in from below deck. As your father was fighting their Captain, a sailor came up from behind and loped his head off. After his death the crew went into shock and the battle went into favor of the pirates whom boarded the Revanche des Brouillards and used gunpowder kegs to sink her. We still won in the end” He had said to Solomon. Tears swept into Solo’s eyes and sadness into his heart. He turned and walked away from the Captain, into the forest.

An hour later when he finally emerged from the forest he found Hector waiting for him. “I’m sorry Solo” he sad. But Solomon had planned his revenge. But it would take a long time to come true, he wanted to kill all the pirates in the Caribbean. Solo went up to the Fort and signed up to join the navy....

Chapter 7

7 years had passed since Solo had joined the Navy. At first he started out as a Cadet, then a Sergeant then a Veteran. From the rank or Veteran, Solomon went to Officer, Dragoon, and Captain and now he was finally being promoted to Commodore. Solo had bought a ship called the Rouge Brouillards.

When Solo had joined the navy so did Hector. Even though Hector never wanted to join he still did for several unexplained reasons. Today was the day Solomon would start his plan to rid the Caribbean of pirates. He had planned to take his ship, one of the strongest in the Caribbean, and hire other ships, which he already did, and go out and sink any pirates and at the very end lay siege on Tortuga. Hector had his own ship which will also be in the fleet.

That day, when Solo was looking for some extra crew members he chanced upon a strange yet familiar women. “Excuse me, Miss?” asked Solomon politely “You are a cook are you not? I see you here cooking”
“Aye” replied the women. Bells started to ring in Solo’s head; he had heard the voice before. “Are ye looking for a job, it has good pay, and it will be aboard a mighty war ship, you see I’m in need of a cook”
“Aye, what be your name sir”
“Commodore Solomon O’shot at you service, madam”
“SOLOMON” she yelled suddenly. It was so loud and sudden that Solomon had his sword drawn in the blink of an eye and pointed at the lady. “Solomon, it’s me Liz, from the island you left 8 years ago. Live wasn’t the same without you around. I waited for my chance to come to Port Royal but a ship never did show up until 2 months ago, we docked here yesterday”
“Liz?” Solomon asked surprised, he stared at her for a long minute then everything made sense “LIZ, it is you” with that Solomon gave her a big hug, he had missed her a lot.

On that note Solomon hired her into his services and explained to her why he ran away and why he was planning to hunt down pirates. He also introduced her to Hector, whom had heard a lot about her.

The following week Solo set sail, with Liz aboard his ship as a cook, and Hector behind the ship with a fleet. They had a lot of success in sinking pirates; they had sunk nigh on 15 ships and had suffered only minor damages. At this moment they were about to face another opponent. Solomon had the fleet stopped. Each ship was facing the lone pirate war ship, which was also facing them as well. Next to the Rouge Brouillards was Hector with his ship. After yelling from ship to ship they had agreed only Solomon was to sail and confront the lone war ship.

Solo had the sails raised on this fine day; the sun was high up, there was a cool ocean breeze, the water was a dark shade of blue and the smell of gunpowder hung in the air. In the water sharks started to swim knowing people were going to fall in water and via that into their mouths....

Good chapter Solo!

Solomon O 10-15-2010 08:13 AM

Chapter 8

Solomon’s ship made its way slowly to the war frigate. The lone pirate ship should be an easy battle for a SOTL. But Solomon had learned that even the biggest ship can be destroyed by the smallest of ships. Solomon did not let his guard down. As they made progress towards reaching the pirates Commodore Solomon commanded his crew to load cannons on both sides, just in case. The hot sun only worsened the crews mood, saying, “This day be too hot to go to war, well drown in our own sweat” The pirate ship drew nearer and the rest of the navy fleet drew further away.

The ship was almost in range, they just had to turn so the broadside cannons could line up with the enemy ship. BOOM! Cannons on the front of the enemy ship fired, splintering wood as it hit Solo’s navy Ship Of The Line. The navy ship turned and so did the pirate ship. On a quick change of plans Solomon ordered to shoot at the masts instead. BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!! After the initial broadside form Solomon’s ship there was a low creak, then another and another. 3 masts came tumbling down from the pirate ship. Another few cannon shots rang out over the water. These were fired from the almost de-masted pirate ship. Huge chunks of wood flew away from the SOTL, these were no ordinary shots. Solomon noticed that each shot was on fire.

Even more shots rang out from the pirate ship. Grappling hooks landed on Solomon ship. Soon both ships were next to each other. After a few gun shots, pirates swung across from their ship. Solo drew his sword; hacking through a pirate that was charging towards him. Even more pirates boarded the ship. Solomon sliced at an opponent, but his attack was parried, Solo quickly blocked a cleave from the opponent he attacked. They exchanged blows for a short while. The pirate dropped to the floor when Solo did a move he learned from Captain John; twirling the sword by your side – that distracts the opponent- then quickly stab them in he chest. Yells of pain ran across the deck as pirates and navy alike where wounded. Soon even more pirates boarded the ship, along with them was a man that walked with an air of command and power. Was this their captain? Solo Wondered. His thoughts were confirmed when he issued orders; “Kill them all if ye want to get home, me ship be de-masted! We need this ship, mateys” He noticed Solo, and more importantly, his commander lapels and badges. He charged on over to Solomon with a wicked sword raised.

Solo parried the attack. Dang it, he’s Strong, Thought Solo. Solomon retaliated the attack with 3 quick slices. This attack disarmed the Pirate Captain, but he drew a dagger and continued fighting. Solomon fought the opponent for what seemed a long time. “Me be having to admit, matey, ye be a very goo fighter, says I” yelled the pirate during the battle. Knowing that he would loose this battle Solomon ran away from his opponent. The pirate started chasing him but got distracted by Solo’s best swordsmen, second only to himself; Liz.

After leaving his opponent Solo had time to evaluate the fight. Neither side was winning, but Solo knew he had to call for help in order to win. He rang over to the alarm bell. DING, DING, DING!!! Three times it rung, to summon only Hectors ship, he did not want others to get involved yet. Solo glanced over to the fleet. A moment later the sails on Hector ship were raised. Now, all they had to do was wait. Solo ran back over to Liz. She was still fighting the captain but she was getting very tired. The Pirate brought his dagger down in a cleave for what would have been Liz’s death, if not Solo had blocked the attack. Solo pushed Liz away and continued to exchange mighty blows with the pirate Captain. Cannons blasted from Hector’s ship into the pirate ship, before he rounded to the other side of Solomon’s ship and boarded it as well. He came over with about 100 men. Solo hoped this would be enough to win the battle.

The pirate captain embraced the oldest and noblest pirate tradition and ran away. Solomon didn’t give chase. Instead he went over to Hector. “They are very hard to kill, and the ship takes little damage to cannons” Stated Solo as Hector examined the battle.
“Voodoo” Hector cursed.
“Voodoo” agreed Solomon.
The fighting went on for another few hours. The navy grew tired. The pirates however, didn’t tire because of some voodoo spell guessed Solo. One by one the navy dropped, dead or exhausted. Solomon was proud of them. But they had lost. As a final act, Solo ran over to the bell. He rang it 8 times. This would tell the fleet to retreat. Solo was surprised when they hadn’t fled after the pirate ships mast magically reappeared. The pirate captain was fooling with them earlier. Hector ordered anybody to go back to his ship. The navy ran and used ropes to swing across. Leaving Solo, Hector and Liz behind.

“Commodore, Captain, The Cook, Board the ship!!!!” Yelled a navy officer. Solo looked at Hector then Liz. They nodded saying; “We must”
“Nay,” Yelled Solomon, “Cast off that’s an Order” The navy ship soon had he sails raised and sailing away. Leaving the 2 navy soldiers and the 1 cook aboard the SOTL with a whole army of pirates ready to kill them. “Throw them in the brig or it be the devil to pay!” shouted the pirate Captain. With that order Solomon, Liz and Hector where thrown into the jail. Along with unconscious navy soldiers that had passed out in the heat off battle. Liz was thrown into a cell with two other soldiers; another cell contained 4 more soldiers. In Solo’s cell was Hector….

Solomon O 10-15-2010 10:46 AM

Final Chapter

Hours had passed since they were thrown into the brig. Solo was starving. The 6 navy officers woke up and asked what happened when they saw they were in jail. Solo gave a full account of what happened including the part where the ship was blown to pieces with some gun powder kegs. The intense heat from outside only worsened the mood for Solo and his fellow captives. The sour smell of blood and sweat had filled the air.

Finally after hours of waiting the Captain came down with bread and water. The bread was hard and dry and the water didn’t smell too good. “Which one of ye be the leader of the navy fleet?” demanded the pirate captain.
“That be I” said Solo after a moments hesitation
“And by what rank shall I call you?”
“Commodore, Commodore Solomon O’shot”
“Well Commodore, even though I am a pirate, I am still a civilized man, no harm shall come to you and your friends………yet”

For the next few hours Solomon devised a plan to escape, they needed one thing though. Solomon looked over to the pirate that was meant to be on guard duty. He was not very far away. Solomon reached over and slowly pulled out a dagger and the keys. As silent as the grave Solomon sliced the mans neck. He then unlocked the door. He also freed the other prisoners. Quickly each person took back the weapons stolen form them (they were nearby). It was night when Solomon poked his head through the hatch that led to the deck. Some drunken pirates were singing;
“Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage plunder, we rifle and loot.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.”
Solomon despised the song. He had heard it sung a lot by privateers that had port in Port Royal. Quietly they crept from below decks. The ship creaked in the gentle breeze. Solomon swept over to one of the pirates. Not close behind him was Hector and the others. The pirates had their backs towards Solo and the others. They were able to kill them all without a noise.

They quickly then took one of the row boats, along with some rum and food. Lowered them selves down in the water and sailed to a close by island that the pirates had planned to land at the following day, Tortuga. It took them most of the night to reach a safe place to land, and another hour or two to find an inn that was open and able to house some soldiers. The tern soldiers didn’t really fit since they looked more like pirates themselves.

The following day, they woke up early and checked out of the inn. They then went to explore the town. Tortuga was nothing like Port Royal. The smell of grease and sweat had filled the air, making it seem too thick to breathe in. The houses were dirty and old. The people were even dirtier, Solomon noticed. None had clean clothes like the people on Port Royal. The lack of a fort made Solomon wonder why this town was still around and not destroyed. A couple of pirates ran past him and then there was a loud boom. That also reminded Solomon that the town was almost destroyed. Without further delay, Solomon when to the local shipwright and ‘Hired’ him a ship. Although the term hired doesn’t really apply here, unless you consider forcing somebody at gun point to give you something is hiring. Hmm, thought Solo, that was fun. Hector came up from behind. “You got a ship, I presume”
“Aye,” Solo pointed to a Galleon in the water.
“Good, Ill get the others”

Soon they had set sail again. They even plundered a few merchant ships on the way for food. Solomon was beginning to enjoy his new life. They had planned to sail to Port Royal. On the 9th day of sailing, a Navy Kingfisher started to chase him down. Solomon did not run away from the Kingfisher. They are part of the navy, and they might mean a safer voyage to Port Royal. The Kingfisher pulled up beside Solomon later that day. They were ready to shoot but didn’t, Solomon had a white flag raised.

After what seemed like forever, They boarded Solomon’s ship. “We are here, under the jurisdiction of the British government, you are all under arrest for piracy” Stated an official.
“Nay, we are also from the navy, ‘tis be me, Commodore Solomon O’shot”
“Nice try, Solomon is dead”
“Not” Even saying that he realized it was over, he is considered a pirate. A man walked up, he was wearing a black uniform. EITC! These people were deadly. A plank was lowered from the navy ship to the pirate ship. Across the plank several men carried what looked like a small portable fire pit. They were sweating. The EITC man drew a metal rod from the fire; on the end was a P. With a nod, some men took hold of Solomon’s arms. Solomon noticed that the others were also held in the same manor. The EITC agent walked up and rolled Solomon’s sleeve up. He then raised the metal rod that still glowed from the heat and branded Solo with the P. Solomon yelled out in pain. Soon each of Solo’s friends had been branded. All of them now were holding their arms in pain. The navy had let go of their arms….

This was their only chance. “WEAPONS” yelled Solo, soon every ‘pirate’ had a sword drawn. The navy was to slow to react. Soon, some were dead and others had fled. The EITC agent was dead as well. The remaining had their weapons out, but Solomon’s crew was too fast and too good. The entire navy on the ship was killed, the Kingfisher fled. “Commodore?” asked one of the men
“Aye”
“It be Hector sir, he has been killed” Surprised Solomon scanned the decks. There, in the corner lay Hector, dead. Killed by a single stab wound. The world is coming to an end thought Solomon. He wrapped hector up in the only navy flag they had left. With a few last words dumped him into the ocean.

Solomon took the wheel. The sun was setting. Looking towards it, he thought for a while until he finally made up his mind. Just as the sun went down, a green flash shot up into the sky. Solomon was preparing to get his revenge again. This time on the navy. He was a pirate after all.
