Skill Points Q

For those of you who've finished the game or come close, do you eventually get enough skill points offered to complete all the holes in every skill?

Plunderin Mom 11-07-2007 11:19 PM

The way I understand it (anybody please correct me if I'm wrong) is that you get one skill point for each weapon level you earn, and that the maximum weapon level, at this time, is 25. So you have to decide which skills (and how many) you want to put your 25 skill points on for each weapon (including sailing and cannons).

I have played the game as far as you can go in the game to date (the Boss battle), but haven't maxed each weapon yet, so maybe my info is incorrect. That's my current understanding of how it works, however Ive been known to misunderstand before... :zn3ltx:

From my understanding, that's correct so far. Hard telling if they'll adjust this or not.

Ewww that's not good...now I kinda wish I didn't take "throw dirt" on my beta girl, not to mention a few other things I'll be rethinking on this open character. At least I know now, thanks for the help! :turkeydanceani:

Yeah, I think there's some skills you could pass on completely. This would then give you more skill points to add to those damaging skills and helpful skills to increase their strengths. Specializing in a couple skills for each catagory seems to be working for me. You can easily max out a few skills and still have enough points to pick up most of the other skills in a catagory.

That stinks that you can't fill up all of your skill point holes (although it would make you overpowered ;)) I'd use them on the damage skills and on weapons used from range.

According to the homepage's FAQ (If you believe Disney):

http://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/v...lease_notes#11

What happens if my Pirate reaches full notoriety?

New features will constantly be added to the game allowing advanced Pirates to become increasingly powerful, and even more notorious.

Silly P, I have throw dirt skill for my knife and trust me, it's a life saver! Blinds the enemy for a few seconds which causes him to miss you, giving you precious moments to deal major damage to them while saving your own life.

I wouldn't do without it. :D

I have left out the throwing knife skill and just went for the poison throwing kife skill.

Sounds correct from what I've read also.

I think once you reach Level 40 notoriety, your character should get 10 total skill points, that aren't specific to a certain category, to be used any way you like.

BloodyMare 11-11-2007 01:10 AM

Uh oh.

Does this mean my strategy of evenly balancing the skill points stinks? I basically just decided to make myself kind of a "Jill of all trades," putting one in everything as I get them....hmmm. Sounds like that might have been a dummy move on my part!

Okay, well, I guess I will re-think my baby pirates then and what they'll be skilling up in...ahoy!

Vangelis 11-11-2007 01:14 AM

I just reached max skill level with my cutlass today lol

Max level is 25

So spend each skill point wisely. Here's how I do it, I choose my main weapon or 2, and use certain skill point from others to enhance my main one! I know ur not supposed to favour one weapon, but with the limited skill points....

25? That's poor! No way can we get all the skill points filled in.

When you hit 25, it says "mastered" on your weapon so you can't advance.

You can use the skill points you earn from one weapon and put them on another? I wondered about that. That would begin to explain how I ended up with 4 skill points on the lowest grenade skill that I never put there (I was nowhere even close to level 4 with it at the time to have 4 skill points to put on it).

If thats true I think I will use the skill points I (slowly) earn from grenades and put them on another weapon since I cant usually make them work well anyway. :ziwzgm:

Vangelis 11-11-2007 04:13 PM

Noooooooo lol

What I mean is (For grenades you get skill points to begin with so that explains there being some there to start with)

Some dagger skill point upgrades can enhance your cutlass, you can't spend skill points for the dagger on the cutlass for example, but can use them to enhance (passively) e.g decrease cutlass and dagger special ability recharge time :mickeypiratezd4:

Plunderin Mom 11-11-2007 04:19 PM

Oh ok, yeah. I see what you're saying now. Thanks for clarifying that for me. :)

Grim Lightning Gate 11-29-2007 02:58 AM

Caps I think have already been explained
Here is the reasoning that I see...

You can only take your weapons to a point (so far) because the game is still in its starting stages

Just like in another MMORPG that this game has similarities too, the "Expansion packs"
that will come (soon, I hope) will increase your ability to have more notoriety and weapon levels (you will need at least 55 skill points for all the dots on just the cutlass)

They say to use the skill points wisely, but there are some really vague discriptions on some of those skills...I think that is jacked!

WizardHawk 11-29-2007 07:38 AM

They did move the total skill points allowed from 20 to 25 in late beta II so there is always a chance they may retweak and balance higher at some point, but this would be a mistake IMO. Part of the development of this game is for you to decide how to best use the points given and you are told in hints to spend them wisely because of the limitation of total numbers.

In most games you have to make choices and if you add to x you lose from y and that's how it is. Soon enough people will be giving up their hard learned lessons on how to best balance skills and passive skills on each to get the most out of what you want in your pirates fighting ability and newer people will have some better idea of what to do. Until then, the game is only a month old and there is plenty of time to make new pirates on your account and build them better with what you have learned.

This man know the deal...

Well said WizardHawk
