Quest Solution: Black Pearl vs. Goliath

Well I finally completed this today after one hour of trying, and at least 9 attempts.

It's no cakewalk as many of you can guess.

Here's how I did it.

1. I went to my journal and joined the "Boss Battle Now." Please note that you can bring other crew members along, I'm not sure what this does for them though, since I did it alone.

2. You go through a cutscene, two Navy soldiers argue, similar to Murtogg and Mulroy from the films. You see a massive LEVEL 40 war frigate, called the Goliath, guarding the Black Pearl. While the soldiers argue, you sneek aboard.

3. Take the wheel. This is the fun part, you get to sail the Pearl! However, the game may be jumping all over the place and make steering her no fun at all, so if it doesn't, then enjoy!

4. Navy ships attack you. There are 4 in total, and you must sink them. When I did it, I only sunk 1, and the other 3 sunk by themselves! LOL. They damage the Pearl quite alot.

5. After clearing the attack ships, you enter the longest part of the mission. You must destroy ALL bridges guarding the exit route. That's 9 forts (5 bridges.) This will take about 15 minutes, but the forts do not damage the Pearl, or at least they didn't when I played. However, when I sailed through, you sometimes end up in the open ocean. Simply reverse to get back. Sometimes you can use this to your advantage, as you can end up between the next bridge you must destroy :-)

6. After all bridges are destroyed, advance on the Goliath. It's huge and has so many powerful guns, but when I did it, they didn't harm me or the Pearl. You must look for a weak spot. For me, I sailed through the Goliath and found some broadside cannons hanging out. I fired on them for 10 minutes, and finally brought her down. GOOD LUCK finding this, I got very lucky.

7. With the Goliath gone, you now get 2000 rep for destroying her, and 2000 more for quest completion.

8. You must return to Jack Sparrow and Gibbs in the Faithful Bride in Tortuga. They revel in your victory, and tell you of a future quest....

9. This future quest is incomplete at present, but is planned! You get 500 rep for visiting "Valentina" on Padres del Fuego.

10. STORY QUEST COMPLETE!

Finally!

Thanks for sharing. I hope this helps alot of people that are going to fight the Goliath.

Peggo 11-09-2007 03:31 AM

Just to clarify, the bridges are destroyed with cannon fire?

Plunderin Mom 11-09-2007 07:34 AM

Congratulations Vangelis! I knew you'd find a spot that worked for you. Woot!

Yes, but you must hit the bridge supports, not the bridges (or at least that's how it worked for me).

Vangelis 11-09-2007 09:51 AM

Yes, you must hit the forts guarding the bridges

And the attack ships

Both with cannon fire, NOT steering the ship!

Peggo 11-09-2007 04:35 PM

Sounds like fun. I can't wait. Oh wait, I have to. I'm not finished with the Black Pearly quest yet. :agapirateju3:

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I was happily doing it (and completed it) When I noticed a possible story line ...blooper....

If you watched the cut-scene where the "pirates" are running towards the ship

By golly, is that Bo Beck running towards it? And wasn't he totally off-ed by Jolly Rogers right when you started the game?

Weird anyone? hmm hmm?

SavvyPink 11-18-2007 03:56 AM

One thing when your shooting down the Goliath, if you have ramming speed, use it. It went so much faster for me that way.

jadedstatik 11-18-2007 06:24 AM

How in the heck do you make it so people can come with you? I don't think it's possible or they prevented it. My friends tried to come to me and they couldnt and when u start the battle it kicks everyone from your crew.

I completed it on the third try, 1st time got sunk from attack ships, 2nd time missed a bridge thought it was glitched, and 3rd time was a charm.

There is a sweet spot on the port side of the goliaith (the side facing the open waters) but the ship will take some damage in other parts as well.

Thr bridges nor the goliaith did any damage to the ship, only the beginning light frigate attack ships did.

Vangelis 11-18-2007 07:15 AM

Get them to teleport to you lol

It works sometimes, other times it doesn't :-/

Gabyta 11-18-2007 03:00 PM

wow, it's good to know what's going to happen next.. I'm so far of that quest yet but thank you for sharing your experience with us :)

You have to get them to teleport to you when your still watching the little clip of the two guys arguing. If they try to teleport later it won't work.

taylor94 11-20-2007 06:09 PM

I did it on first try just broadside or thunder 4 ships

leadshot or broaside the forts and bridges

drive behind the goliath coz it can't move and right broadside or thunder and firebrand it to death woohla u get 2k notority can do it all in 7 minutes

Vangelis 11-20-2007 10:23 PM

Wow u got lucky, first time?

Thanks. Even though I completed it by myself at least now I know what to do to help my friends when they get there.

I wonder if this is going to change since it is down for repairs, I guess I have to work on my skills and stuff while they repair it

Sarah 12-06-2007 12:27 PM

Bringing this back to the top!

Just finished all the quests (save this one of course) and was wondering if there has been any news on when it will be de-bugged?

Also, for those of you that got to complete it, may I poll you on what your sailing and weapon levels were when you took it on? Did you have a war ship? Even though I'm done with all the quests, I don't think I'm ready to take on a Lev 40 Ship! Unless I've got a full crew who all have mighty high cannon skills....

Thanks In Advance!

WizardHawk 12-06-2007 03:47 PM

First, you drive the black pearl during the battle so what ships you have in game is a moot point. The Black pearl has awesome broadside cannons and a decent hull.

Second, no one knows when this will be returned, however you can bank on MAJOR issues when it does return has hundreds of people ready for it try to swarm to it at once. Almost everyone in my guild is ready to do it and that is the same story all over. The lag will be amazing I'm sure.

Sarah 12-06-2007 06:22 PM

Thanks WizardHawk

When I drive another players ship though, my skills are still the only ones available to me....does this not count on the Pearl? (I'm talking about sail speed, ramming skill, et all.) I realized after I posted that I would not be driving my ship, LOL. But I'm concerned about my skill set I suppose.

And I agree, once is opens back up, it's gonna be swarmed....arr.

Thanks Again.

WizardHawk 12-07-2007 12:07 AM

Of course your level of sailing matters on this task. Your normal sailing skills and levels apply, however it is a carefully scripted battle and some of those skills do not come into play.

You are for sure best off having several friends with powerfull cannon levels along to help you and I believe that is more of a bonus than what level your sailing is at, but your mileage may vary.

The only thing that can do damage to you is the 4 ships in the beginning. They're all Light Frigates, but they all fire at the same time. It will kick the butt out of your ship, even using maxed lightning on them. I managed to survive with a inch of health left.

After this, the bridges will fire at you, but they can't cause any damage. The bridges take a REALLY long time, so get TV on or music. After you blow all of the bridges, you will have to sail to the end where you meet the Goliath. The ship is a level 38-39 War Frigate. It will look very scary, but don't be scared- it can't do any damage! You can't hurt it with broadsides, so you can shoot with the deck cannons and ram it. ( I find it easiest if you ram, then shoot the ship while you're waiting to be able to ram again. ) You'll sink it in about 5 minutes of doing that, and you're done with retrieving the Black Pearl!

So it doesn't matter what ship you have, but I suggest having Lightning Ammo and Ramming Speed.

Well I guess we'll see what happens once they fix the boss battle.

I'm just glad I finished it before it went offline :p

Sarah 12-07-2007 12:08 PM

Thanks Mates, very helpful info :)

Well, that's strange....can't do damage.....hmmm, that may be one thing they're trying to fix before they re-release the boss battle. Part of me hopes not, LOL, but seems a bit TOO easy if the Golliath can't hurt you.

Nickpf 12-08-2007 02:22 PM

i just finished with john smith and gibbs told me to get the peral back so i clicked on join boss battle and it said that is was down:(

Eliza Shipwrecker 12-08-2007 11:01 PM

Join what's becoming a very big club. I got to this point 2 and a half weeks ago, and I'm still waiting. Granted, it's given me time to work on my weapons (I've mastered my voodoo doll), and I've almost got enough gold for a war frigate, so I've accomplished something, but I don't feel like I'm progressing in the game, because I don't have a set goal.

Plus, I really, really want to do the boss battle, and I'm tired of waiting. A couple of days to a week would be one thing, but it's well beyond that, and they done several updates.
