IS POTCO better now that it was in 2007?
Well I have been noticing that some people have left that game becuase of the fact that POTCO has been "lame" and stuff like that...
So i was wondering, to you all you founders and Vets. of this game, has POTCO been upgrading or down grading? I know that the Lost weapons and all were great, but i've heard that the old islands are much better than the new ones. But what do you think? I think that after POTCO 4 its going to BOOM. |

I like your "educated guess". I think the game is just making bad progress and did much better back in the days. They have made a terrible move when they changed the islands. But I hope after POTC 4 it will "boom". |

The remodeling of the old islands, for me, is mainly of sentimental value. After all, my pirates did essentially "grow up" there. And, I have to admit, the layout of the towns before hand felt much more rustic and colonial, which I did like. But the towns now, in my opinion, give a much better characterization to the actual area itself - Port Royal actually feels like a bustling port, Padres actually feels like a struggling volcanic-based island, and Tortuga feels like a freebooting state. (Though, I do have to comment, I think the new Tortuga is the poorest of the remodels.) But, other than the islands, the game has definitely improved. We've been getting updates at a relatively good rate compared to the history of the game, and each of them has added a new element to the game. Progressing through the game now is much more unique than it was back in 2007. After the fourth movie, I only see this game "booming" if they actually capitalize on the franchise's popularity (i.e. more commercials, movie-related updates, etc.) |
Back in the very old days, updates would occur rarely and often times the only new topics on the website were things like "Pirate of the Month," or "Most Notorious Guild" or things like that. The old islands were way better, especially Port Royal, and they changed the music of a lot of things, and the old music was better. But they have came out with much more updates. It annoys me to hear all these new people playing that are complaining. They don't know what it was like to go a month or two without an update, as Del said. Hopefully the next movie will cause more people to play, bringing in more income and letting people create better updates for us. But POTCO has done a much better job with the updates now.

Of course it got better! There wasn't even a boss battle back when I started.
|
I have only been playing for 4 months but I have read all the release notes and to be honest I cant even imagine playing back then, it sounds like the bare bones of a game and it sounds like there is alot more to do now. As for the music and towns, can somebody send me screenshots or maps of the old versions? It would be much appreciated!

There might be some here at the POF Gallery.
|
I think the game-play has gotten better but the game community has not. Too many young rudesters out there back before there wasn't as many it was rare to find an arguement and many got along and helped each other out. Maybe i jhust didn't see it but i don't think there was as much back then as there was now.
|
I really haven't seen any jerks out there i only hang out with my friends and guild, so i guess thats why.
P.S i Actually have met much more Adult trolls then young ones. not to Blame adults or whatever, but thats just my experience. |
I agree I really miss old islands. But I am grateful for the new weapon update hey it's better than having one cutlass and have it be a pirates blade haha.

It probably did. The Boss Battle Hiatus is what I remember the most.
|
I.... didn't play in 2007. So yeah. But it's definitely better than it was even when I made Emily in May of '10.
|
I have had my Piratesonline account for like three years. I went a few times in the old days, but have only actually started playing recently.
Seeing the deference from the old days when I rarely went on, I can tell that it is much much better now. |

I couldnt agree more. |
I like the old islands better, but i like the new weapons. I would really like a new ship which i hear could happen in the next few months. but the thing i want most is a pirate flag. What good is a pirate ship without the colors flying proudly

rofl i remember when every ship had a figurehead! that was so awesome back then lol. Personally i think the game back in the day was better, because those were the games Golden Years and ALOT more people played, now the people who play are just plain out rude... but thats my Opinion. :dancetl6: |
I wish the game still had the old islands, permanent music, and yes the figure heads and holes in sails. But with a twist, the updates keep coming in as they do now.
|
BAD:
*passing through people ( no AFK pushing ) *can't shoot holes in sails *can't see people on other ships in PVP ( that was SO FUN ) *can't shoot masts down after using grapplers *can't shoot the captain of NPC ships ( or even see them any more ) while grappled *The weapons upgrade quests are completely obsolete now and a waste of time. What they need to do is change the quests so that instead of getting a useless weapon, you get a new SKILL that can ONLY be obtained by doing the quest. *Taking out the empty Kings and the hidden cave was a mistake. It was an AWESOME place to play capture the flag and other games that we make ourselves. GOOD: *WEAPONS AND CLOTHING DROPS!! Totally the best thing they have done for us mastered pirates!! *Some quests were updated ( more needs to be done here ) *Raven's Cove is awesome, and Smash is a challenge *I like the IDEA of the fleet, but the rewards are too wimpy and makes it not worth the effort ( I'm looking forward to the QAR, it's been fun on test ) * Invasions... are totally awesome .. but I think it should be limited to about twice a week. ( just my opinion ) I may add more to this list as I think of them. |
well i guess its in the middle rly bc of kings :'( my favorite place to play grenade games :) old times..........
|
Hmm
Well, I started in 2008 so I don't know about the 2007 game, but up to now I guess there are some good things like invasions, drops, and the higher levels. :12_1_138:
|
Personally, I think it got worse as you became a higher level. Things just got too easy. I miss the thrill of being level 20 and going to (old) Tormenta and killing a level 30 dreg.

I have noticed many pirates that have been gone from game, for quite a spell, returning & having a great time.

A perfect example is a person in my guild who has not played since early 2008, he had maxed everything when he left but I am a higher level than him because the level cap back then was 30. He was truly amazed by the the changes they had made to the game, and said it was "Like a whole new game". It is kind of weird thinking that you can master a game, then come back three years later and have to relearn it.

lol... 2007 is my current amount of health. :D |
I think this game is still a baby. The game has progressed but by very little stuff has been added to gain a lot of attention from the old players. Almost all the new things added the past year have been broad ideas and nothing specific. I think Disney needs to make polls by emailing players or some other way to ask what ideas to add and what to remove. Like Kat said above on the BAD list, Most of that we weren't asked if it would make us players happy to remove/replace. One thing that has remained same and is very important is skills and i think players NEED to have some new permanent skills for all weapons.
Long story short, The game has remained about the same due to the fact that a lot of things were removed( like see people on other ships without asking player's opinions and didn't make players happy), added new stuff(like bosses and more weapons which made some players happy), and replaced some of the old things(like remodeling the isles which is not really progress and didn't change what players think about the game much). |
It is better now. Better weapons. Better clothes. Fewer crashes. Bosses. You can sail forever instead of having to watch the timer and you can repair your ship in the middle of the ocean.
But I miss the old islands. I STILL get lost on most of them and have to use the map. And the players seem much younger and very rude. I had a Level 50 steal my rep while I was leveling grenades a couple of days ago. That NEVER would have happened in the old days. Level 5 noobs learned to behave from Level 35+ players. |
Ah, well, the only way we can change the social aspect of POTCO is by getting a better mod team...
|
OLD:(Kind of bad)
(some of these facts are from beta, fyi) *Launch ship off any dock: ok, tons of bugs *could swim to others islands: ok, tons of bugs as well *Dock ships in port forever (ships will stay there untill sunk): hated it *Enemies on enemy ships actually fired the cannons (not just the cannons moving like ghosts are moving them) and enemies "taunting" us in fight. *Literally no weapons to use. *Got boring quick, but updates were more frequent * Old islands: will be missed NEW (good):mat: *CLOTHING AND WEAPON DROPS *Raven's Cove *Blackbeard *Invasions *Fleets *Bosses and boss battle *SOTL |
Meh, I personally like the old game. Back when I played, it was so simple. Now a days the only thing a lot of people play for is to loot. I remember when doing weapon upgrade quests was the only way to get new ones. Back when there wasn't any " noob " calling. As Sharktooth said when we made a pirate, he swam out to the ocean and got stuck out there... forever :p . I also remember The Loyalty Bandanna and Black Skull Bandanna we're the best clothes in the game. I remember in the old Port Royal you'd run up the to Fort Charles, only to find the Assassin glitched and standing right in front of you, waiting to attack :p . Ah wait where were we? O yes, I do like the game now, but it was probably more fun back then.

The game has definitely improved. I do miss some of the old islands, not to say I don't like the new ones. I miss swimming to the Padre Beach........but don't miss the 65k gold cap .....I miss having function keys assigned to all weapons .....but don't miss the lack of weapons. You can't have it all, but we can sure try. Send more feedback ......and after that, send some more. Obviously don't SPAM Disney or send duplicates .....but the points need to be made. We need to be heard.

When I started the game, I felt like it was the coolest thing in the world. I played it every day, and was so very addicted to it.
Now the sense of mystery has gone, but the game has improved quite a lot. For example, when I joined, there were no loot drops. I remember the day that it came out. It felt like the best day of my life, finally getting new clothes and weapons. Some of the features of Pirates Online are more limited now, like swimming between islands. But I am very happy with the way Pirates Online is. It might be nice to see some of the old islands come back, I suppose, but it doesn't really make any difference to me. I wouldn't say the game was 'lame' compared to the old days. I'd say it's quite the opposite. Pirates will always be my favourite MMOG, because of the memories, not the present. If the old islands come back, it won't make them special anymore, and chances are you won't be able to replicate some of your fondest memories. And some people might start asking for the islands we have now back. There's no pleasing some people. :) I doubt we'll ever forget what Pirates was like when we started. But if some parts of Pirates changes back to the way they were, the current ones will be missed. And as for the old islands, there are some players who prefer the new islands. Disney did remove the old islands for a reason, mates! Disney should listen to us, though. All the suggestions that have been made to them... how many got into the actual game? I don't think anybody asked for Scoundrel Of The Seas. Don't get me wrong, I like the update, but that's a good example. I used to sometimes see GMs cross Abassa Tortuga to a quieter place (this was when I was in Abassa quite regularly), and see who followed them. I suspect the reason they did this was to gather feedback, as all the questions they asked were about the game (in a piratey style, of course). There were many, many suggestions about making the route to Darkhart a little shorter. And when was this? Mid 2010, I think. No shortened route. I don't think it's ever going to happen, but there's another example. To finish, I want to say that Pirates has certainly improved. There have been some good updates, bad updates, and updates that add bugs into the game. Everyone has different opinions, and we can all respect that. Let's wait and see what happens. I think something there's something big round the corner. :) |
