Scoundrel of the Seas

Looks like sail customization and bounty hunters are on the horizon.

Not sure how to embed videos, so.. link:

Dark_Pixie 06-18-2011 01:52 PM

Excellent! I guess it's coming sooner than we thought...

The Stealthy Pirate 06-18-2011 02:13 PM

Interesting... Looks like new enemies too!

Captain Del 06-18-2011 02:45 PM

It seems as though those aren't so much new enemies as they are bounty hunters, pirates who fly their sails that will try to come and sink you! Whether they are player-run, or are run by the computer, beats me - but certainly does this look like a worthwhile thing to come!

I think that they're NPC ships rather than actual players: the ships seen in the video have levels under them, while normal player ships don't show any levels. Plus, computer-operated ships would be much more fun, as you wouldn't need to go to an A- server during the day to find bounty hunters.

ruisen2000 06-18-2011 03:48 PM

This seems like a combination of infamy and Svs. Except you don't need to be french nor spanish.
The enemy war sloop was a I'm pretty sure a player ship, because its hull colour was the same as a player ship, and it also had a player ship name. As you sink ships, you get some infamy ish points.

So seems like Svs II

xswx 06-18-2011 04:54 PM

wow i cant wait for this i hope new ships come with it :D

Ofury/ Tom 06-18-2011 05:29 PM

Well, Pirates never did just co-exist did they. everyone wanted what the other had this could be this being brought into the game. Although I think it is more than likely a NPC ship that spawns when you start going after ships. QAR will be a challenge now. I have yet to see someone fight its broadsides without getting hit. Get a good haul in from it and there ya have it. Bounty hunters will swarm you that should be a challenge.

SEAKING23 06-18-2011 05:30 PM

This is.... possibly one of the best updates ever to come to POTCO, least to say. I like how they have been listening to our suggestions about hunters coming after us and all. Hooray for POTCO!

They're actually NPC ships. You can tell by the way the fireshot arcs at the end of the video, and only NPC ships do that, not player ships.
And player's don't broadside explosive.

I noticed that; and the Cutter Shark also circles around the player's ship in the video like an enemy ship would. Also, "Cutter" isn't available as a first name when naming your ship.

I'm curious as to what causes bounty hunters to come after us, though, and whether or not the Cutter Shark is the only bounty hunter ship. I guess we'll find out soon..

Its an Update mate things can change....

Davy_Mcwrecker 06-18-2011 06:27 PM

Probably A new ship thing. They will add new ship names, add all the new ships, and have a bounty hunter quest. For every so many ships you sink, your flag would be updates until it got the the "Captain" flag. Thats when thr bounty hunters get better rewards for sinking your ship. The flags on the bounty hunter ships are pre chosen, so you'll you'll pick from like, 3 different color options. The red and blue from the video, a green and orange, and a black and gold. ( for examples. ) Then if A pirate sunk a Bounty Hunter ship, the bounty hunter would be sent back to their last island, with their ship fully repaired, and no groggy. Kinda like the SvS, but you end up on land. When a player gets enough points, they will earn special "Titles" or maybe even Badges. The titles would be a color lke green, and be between the guild and Pirate name. It would go up with rank. Lke a level 1 would get the title "Soggy Sailor", A level 2 might get "Clever Poltroon", and it would go up in rank until rank 4, the "captain" rank, and they would get the title "Scoundrel of the Seas". A bounty hunter would get different titles or badges. Thats My idea of what it is.

Kat Five Knives 06-18-2011 06:38 PM

So much for ranking ships eh? Will be hard to do with one of THOSE on your tail.

Tiberius Fireskull 06-18-2011 06:42 PM

What I have in mind is something slightly different from Davy... obviously, its looking like sail/flag customization is coming, hopefully new ships, and bounty hunters. Think about it realistically for a minute. What did bounty hunters do? When a group of people (EITC, let's say) saw that a lot of their ships were being sunk or their soldiers were being killed, they would obviously want to find and kill whoever was the cause. So they send out bounty hunters. Now think about how SvS works for a moment. MOST people who SVS want to sink the ship with the highest bounty, so they can get the most gold. My idea is that as you sink ships, you will slowly start to build up a bounty from the EITC (or whichever faction you've been plundering from). As your bounty gets higher, they will start to send stronger and larger amounts of Bounty Hunters after you. If you need it put simply, you start sinking a faction's ships ---> they get upset and put a bounty on your heads. They send out some weak bounty hunters ---> they try to attack you but they aren't too powerful. You continue sinking ships and your bounty builds up even more ---> they send out even more bounty hunters after you. ---> so on. I think this will be a really cool update. I'd love to feel like the hunted rather than the hunter sometimes. This way I actually need to keep an eye out behind me.

Oh, and now that I think of it... think of all the quests that this could be used for...

Captain luke 06-18-2011 07:18 PM

Yea, i agree with davy on the whole bounty hunter thing. I hope that there is going to be some sort of reward system like they did with the infamy update, because the clothes that the GMs have in the video seem pretty cool.

Catherine Ironcutter 06-19-2011 12:34 AM

This could be cool.... though I like peacefully sailing. Though it does seem wrong that you can sink thousands of ships and whoever's ships you're sinking don't seem to really care one way or another. :laughks2:

Robert Ironcastle 06-19-2011 01:11 AM

OMG.This is one of the best updates period. And I agree with what Davy's theory says.

Mr. Awesome 06-19-2011 01:19 AM

I highly doubt that these ships are going to be player controlled, which is a good thing since it would basiclly be SvS two. Also how annoying would it be if some troll kept sinking you while you sail? I am 85% sure that is is going to be a "heat" game mechanic, where for example, the more EITC ships you sink the more Hunters they send after you, and if that is the case then TIS LOKS LIKE TEH BEST POTCO UPDATE EVAR!!1!!

EDIT: I think it is going to be something along these lines.

Hmmm... What I'm guessing is that if you defeat that ship a bunch of times that jolly roger flag will update (that flag that was waving and had different things on it every few seconds) And maybe that will show your rank on the seas and you will be able to fly the flag? Kinda like infamy ranks?

Jamesvsthekraken 06-19-2011 02:31 AM

I do hope that it's Ship Customization or something close to it. I want me some red and black sails. :) :D xD :bookishfj7: :piratewheelgo2:

Catherine Ironcutter 06-19-2011 02:52 AM

Also, is it just me, or is whoever's doing the video a really bad aim with a cannon?:smiley23:

If you look at the chat when the cutter first appears, the chat almost entirely consists of "ramming speed" and "full sail." Apparently fleeing from the cutter is a good idea :laughks2:

CarribeanThunder 06-19-2011 04:24 AM

I will safely assume that the Cutter Shark will most likely be an NPC ship.
1: As mentioned, the Firebrand makes an arch when fired. Her Broadside is also slow.
2: "Cutter" isn't a name choice. Yet.
3: It is shown at first at Lv50 if you look closely at the far away Cutter. The next one shown is Lv49. Navy Bastions, Tyrants/Elites, and Fleet Ships of the Lines have the Lv#9-Lv#1 level pattern, so it's likely the top Cutter Shark level will be Lv51.

But there's one thing that goes against this. Look at the speed of the ship. It's as fast as a player ship. Strange, huh?

But still, it's more than likely that this'll be an NPC ship.

Hmm... Thats actually a good point. Hopefully, this will be a sailing challange, which will give lv 50 people with max fury something to "fight" :laughks2:

I think this is the most likely. At the start, it shows the pirate sinking NPC ships, then gaining .... skulls on their flag, then getting chased. It might work the same way, as you mentioned.
I wonder if the Hunters drop nice loot..... lol After all, they are bountyhunters = lots of items

Dark_Pixie 06-20-2011 04:43 PM

I strongly believe that this is going to be Unlimited Access only... or at least a portion of it. It would be good to type our own ship names.

Marry The Night 06-21-2011 01:48 AM

Scoundrel of the Seas is on Test now; here are some screens: (unfortunately, no new ships, rewards, or ship customization) Note the ship of the line.

Davy's idea reminds me of Need for Speed: Carbon, when you gain heat the longer you keep away from the police in a chase and the more cop cars you trash. As you gain more and more heat,... more cops and better cop vehicles come at you. Sounds like this could get interesting.... but what if you just want to loot for fun and don't want to have to be sunk as you're nearly sunken ship comes back into port?

Davy_Mcwrecker 06-23-2011 03:08 AM

Firebrand ammo DOES arc, you just gotta shoot far enough.

Bubba Bunny x 06-23-2011 04:59 AM

Huh kinda makes me think of the game Grand Theft Auto... With the stars representing the cops... Except on pirates its with ships

Ofury/ Tom 06-23-2011 05:22 AM

I will shed some light on this subject. The update is not ship custmization. It is not for unlimited only. It changes the way you sail totally by adding in some voices to make it more piratey and adding in Hunters. Hunters are NPC sailed ships although you will find they are extremly fast and a hard ship to defeat. As you go up in sailing rank more and more Hunters will come after you. Hunters will attack you based off of the loot you are carrying. Yes a light sloop can be attacked by a hunter. Yes I have done it :P.

I was gunning on said light sloop! It was epic! We put a few hunters down before porting.

combatlizzy 06-23-2011 02:32 PM

The more you plunder-the more your pirate flag develops-the more ships that pursue you. As for rewards-finding an open port & docking safely after being chased around the Caribbean works for me-LOL

Catherine Ironcutter 06-23-2011 09:29 PM

Do Wild Islands count as open ports? I'm going to guess Tortuga almost always does, as it's a pirate town with thugs and taverns :P I'm guessing PR closes off quickly, what about Cuba? Or PDF?

HammyTheSquirrel 06-23-2011 09:36 PM

Is this for all ships? Or would it be just for Navy/EITC ship since they actually take casualties, but Jolly Roger and the QAR don't have living pirates/soldiers... so it would be strange to have a living bounty hunter on your tail because you "killed" the undead who just pop right back up again anyway... O_o strange.....

A pirate cannot dock his/her ship at any wild island once the ship reaches full rank. You can only dock at the open port that is stated below your compass.

Mr. No Fear 06-27-2011 06:00 PM

Aye

I have try it on the test sever, the game keeps on getting better and better with the infamy and all those ship stuff! GAME KEEPS A GETTING MORE EPIC :laughks2:

Jolly Roger has the Casa De muterous guild, and QAR, i don't know...

No, trust me, tried it. When you get The Queen Anne's Revenge, it is just like old plundering, same with Skeletons. Its only Navy and EITC. Also, I don't believe Fleets will cause it either. Besides, when does Jolly Roger hire somebody else to do what he loves? :degen:.
