Didnt pirates say the update would be avaliable by now..?

<=O ive waited nearly 3 years for this update i cant wait any longer DX

Cannonfury 10-02-2011 05:24 PM

They might be waiting till after the Muetros Moon thing is over this month.

Dark_Pixie 10-02-2011 05:38 PM

What update are you talking about? The ship customization update that may be in the works?

Captain Del 10-02-2011 05:54 PM

Pirate's never confirmed anything close to a release date. Early on they said on their Youtube channel that they would attempt to get it done by the end of September, but I believe a week or two ago they said that they had delayed the update a little bit so that they could work out the kinks, and add new features that were not seen in the video they released. So, patience should be given to them in return for a worth-while update.

HammyTheSquirrel 10-02-2011 06:03 PM

I was checking the YouTube page comments and thought this one was a good statement.

Quote:

To me, the delay and taking your time sounds more of good news than bad. Multiple times has impatience and rushing updates effected the game negatively so I think, taking longer but eventually having a great update With Bug Fixes beats impatience.
I think POForums' Leo said that. Just have some patience, Mate! ;)

Dark_Pixie 10-02-2011 06:17 PM

Aye, and remember it's no picnic creating a brilliant update. We don't know how long they've been working on the update, but I'm certain that they haven't been doing it for three years. If you have been waiting that long for this, I'm sure a few weeks will be fine. And why start ranting about it when you know it's coming? Mustn't rush them - you remember what happened with the SOTL.

But somehow they will miss a fix to game-breaking bugs...

Ice_Storm 10-02-2011 07:36 PM

The bug where the "Potions" activity doesn't reward you any Notoriety points or "Potions" experience if you have the max amount of a potion and try to craft it again, still exists in the game from 3 updates ago.

I'm not sure how they could miss this.

Bobby Flat Foot 10-02-2011 11:37 PM

They just guesstimated, who knows how long it will really take them...

I agree but... they did say that their "goal" was to get this so called "update" to test within 2 to 3 weeks or 20 to 30 days. Hopefully this week is my last prediction... :bookishfj7: Otherwise it won't be on live for the 4th Year Anniversary of potco, if that's what their "new" goal or "goal" was... (I think someone else had said the same thing but only on another forum). :piratewheelgo2:

I think they should release things one at a time, not all in 1 update. That way, we can get things to play with sooner, without having the quality lowered.

Or if not that, then at least communicate with their customers more.

It's been 3 months since new content was added. My patience is still dwindling...

I'd be happy with more communication with players from the developers during the "wait" game with content and bug fix patches.

A sneak peek or a blog post for players to ask questions to the developers and get some answered in the next post or something.

That would be great, however, I must stop fantasizing.

They lower the quality of things due to the rendering problems of the game engine. People were always complaining how bad it lagged, even on low settings.

Panda 3D was created by disney then transferred over to a college for it to be maintained.

It wasn't properly documented, which might explain why it's more lag in unusually settings/locations.

Forget Customization... we were promised Chapter 2 and beyond nearly 4 years ago.

I would certainly prefer a second chapter instead of customisation.

If you ask me, the game should already be on chapter 4 by now.

ding ding ding... we have a winner. That's why I am not a member anymore after 3 1/2 years, I am sick and tired of waiting for real game content. Ship customization while nice ...yawn, whoopee pirates get to sail new ships in the same old world with the same old storyline from the beginning.

Jamesvsthekraken 10-04-2011 10:24 PM

That's probably why they're taking "longer than usual" to release this update. It will probably include a clue on Chapter 2. ;) I could be wrong, but I hope I'm right.

It's taking long due to the exploit/bug fixing they're trying to do.

Such as:
  • Potion glitches
  • Weapon glitches (emotion usage)
  • Skill problems (I.E. Dodge)
  • Possibly some performance bugs
  • Make changes to the EXP base system
  • etc. goes here

Can't have much trust into a game engine that was entirely free to begin with. Especially when it's outdated (Panda 3D doesn't compete with any other game engines today's market uses besides Alice, which is a little poorer than Panda)

The Skirata Clan 10-05-2011 12:40 AM

That's why I don't get excited about rumors. Once things are released for Test that's when I know things are coming.

When new content is released on Test channels, that's what worries me the most.

It worries me because I'm afraid that (Content goes here) is the final product and won't see any other major changes within it.

It disappoints and scares me sometimes what they're doing as a big business.

The Skirata Clan 10-05-2011 01:20 AM

Test was intended for players to help by point out the flaws of whatever content. That way the Dev teams could fix and improve the content. And it worked for a time. Now it's more of a bragging tool.

All real communication with the player-base by the developers ended 2-3 weeks after launch of Pirates Online.

Yeah, so they use it more to brag than to ask players what they liked or disliked in a survey, explain what they plan on improving on or top priorities are for the game, etc.

Anyone know if they'll be lifting the notoriety cap? I'd like to see that.

Before another notoriety and/or Weapons level cap increase, the "grind" has to be fixed, new enemies have to be created, 100 Rep max average for each weapon has to be removed, enemies have to do more realistic attacking animation frames.

The problem with the style that Pirates Online has it setup is that it doesn't trigger a new frame before the previous one is close to finishing.

I know I said that sentence wrong, so I'll just use an example:

Frame 1
Duration: 5 seconds
Attack: Cleave

(Timer of 4 seconds goes here after Frame 1 has been excuted so the enemies don't stop moving and trigger the following frame 2)

Frame 2
Duration: 3 seconds
Attack: Sweep

(Timer of 2 seconds goes here after Frame 2 excution so enemies don't stop moving)

Conclusion: Do you see where I am going with this? They need to redo the leveling experience if they don't want people to feel like they have to struggle so much on a family-show rated game.

Captain Hector 11-27-2011 01:43 AM

I heard there was no customization. I thought the colors came from each update, and were specific to the updates.
Also, i think we need more levels. Increase it to max. 75, people'll go wild. Make it so that each level will take maybe 3 weeks. It'll keep people on enough. When pirates are tired of that, add a boss at Tormenta.
They should take it one step at a time, instead of a huge update every year.

We don't need a level cap increase. That won't solve any of the content problems this game has each and every day.

We need more activities and tough islands to explore.

We need Dungeons to conquer in parties of 4 and earn party exp and find treasure, spirits, etc.

We need more leisure activities like capture the flag or tower defense or checkers in the tavern and PvP areas.

Stuff like this, called end-game content.

Here's a link to my idea of an achievement system only unlocked after you hit level cap in the current patch:

Achievement System

This will obviously be enough to keep mastered pirates playing for a year or 2 more after they mastered.

Chalupa 11-28-2011 03:24 AM

None of us really know, considering none of us made the game, but we were just guessing on when it will come out because we can't wait either.

Mr. Skiperdoo 11-28-2011 06:25 AM

Panda3D? Oh yeah, that simplified engine that runs on C++

Let me express what I'm thinking in simplified C++:

//updates will be presented in form of vague release dates and uncertain time schedules. Whenever we say September, we mean next year, or never!

g_updateschedule not_coming_soon

ent_status waiting for updates
BIND[g_all]

//interesting new enemeis?

NPC_ent_interest 0

NPC_spawn_location unbelievable

d_enemy_stupidity high

g_postlevel50replayvalue low

Level_cap 50

Weapons_status ok

//POTCO will stay this way as long as 51$ per month payment is not exceeded.

//Oh, and how could I forget this!?!?

Agree with all the above comments.

Does anyone get the feeling that Pirates has been consigned to the rather dusty, back shelf of a seldom used cupboard?

The cap used to be 40 and they raised it. All it did was add grinding to level - something to do? yes..... fun? no. A new boss really isn't gonna fix anything in my opinion. They have never had a huge change ( my opinion) most of what they have done on the game is add stuff that most rpg's would have had at release and try to fix lag with new island maps. Ravens cove was a small update that added 2 days worth of stuff to do and the invasions and fleets while being new are ok but not a new story line. It has been 4 years and the mouse still hasn't had a new story line put into the game. Big D is happy to add just enough to keep people playing but not enough to keep the majority happy. My friends list has to be updated more often then the game to account for long lost pirates. Sorry went of on a rant here but I love the game, love the community, just wish Disney would do something with it

There's no need to be sorry for ranting at Disney when they are clearly not putting in "10/10" effort into a project that some of us players pay for.

Honestly, if you guys never spoken negativity about a project that's in a "depression" or "standstill" position, how will they realize that and make any dramatic change if you guys don't demand or request it enough?

This world doesn't revolve around positive comments all the time. There's always something wrong with everything.

I don't apologize when I rant about Disney because I know they're doing something wrong with the project and support treatment (IE. denying requests to respond to e-mail or live chat and transfer and other stuff)

I've played for 2 years and know Disney is losing their mojo as each 6 months passes.

Here's a map of the change:

(coming soon)

Ravens Cove was a pretty big update.. It kept me occupied for quite some time.

Ok to be fair to Ravens Cove it may have taken longer to do for some but I had long been at lvl 50 and was maxed when it came out. The baddies went down quick and offered little to no challange. Foul was added later and not part of the quest but him and the ghost are the only thing really that can stand up to a higher lvl. So the story was over fast and the farming for famed started - farming is much like grinding levels fun or worth it to a point and then just something to do because nothing else exists.
