War Galleon or Frigate?

ok right now i have a galleon, and over 8000 coins, I was wondering:

Should i save up and buy a War Galleon, like ive been hoping for...or go with a frigate...which i like.

a while ago i would have for sure gone with the war galleon...untill i thought *Do i really need a war ship?*

what do you think i should do mates?

gravediggerjason 02-09-2008 06:44 AM

aww yes the choices of pirates.... over all the frigate is a great ship lots of armor strength.. fast.... forward cannons ..far more crew friendly.... i say get it.... it didnt take to long maybe a week to save up enough to buy a War frigate .... and a few days later i had one of each War ship.... get the frigate have some fun and dont worry to much about gold .. it comes easily as you get up in the lvls... do what ever is going to be the most fun for you....

FYI ~War Galleons are easy to sink, lots of target space for the kingfishers to tag with fire balls.... nothing like a nice slw ride to jail as you watch 16 royals float away

later... Sand in my eyes

Dread Roberts 02-09-2008 08:47 AM

Personally, id say save and get the War Galleon. They do have strong armor, yes they are slow and yes they are a big target. But they do have good armor and awesome broadside and cargo room.

Id save for the War Galleon. I still perferre to use it over my War Frigate when i want to plunder. Sololy because of the cargo and broadside advangates. It also has to do with how I sail, where the speed and the manuverability isnt much of a factor. The War Frigate (or normal frigate i spose) are nice when you have a good crew, but you still have limited cargo space.

I find I actually sink less in my War Galleon than in my War Frigate (when sailing solo, of course). Maybe it's because my style of sailing was learned by helming a regular Galleon -- but I find the frigate, because of its length, sometimes catches those cannonballs that otherwise would just miss my galleon's bow or stern.
(And if yer gonna get broadside to a Kingfisher, then ye deserve the fireballs. :pirate41:)

To the original question: I think it really depends on your usual method of sailing. If you often have a crew, then I'd get the Frigate now. It'll make their life much easier. But if you sail solo most of the time, then save up for that War Galleon.

Jack Gunhawk 02-09-2008 06:21 PM

most of the time, i have like one or two people sailin with me

DarthChaosSky 02-09-2008 06:43 PM

I would say, and will say, get a War Galleon. Galleons are more one pirate friendly, which means you can sail alone and have enough broadsides to make it almost anywhere without a crew. Afterwards, you have more cargo space to get more treasure to save up even faster for a Frigate or a War Frigate. Frigates are more crew friendly, so if you don't have enough pirates with you to fill up a Frigate, you should travel with Galleons, since Frigates have less broadsides and more cannons.

The Beautiful Letdown 02-09-2008 06:53 PM

Galleon-gives you a better haul, but not as fast as the frigate. I would say Frigate for speed :)

Edit: One more plus about the frigate it has front cannons and the Galleon does not, you'll find the front cannons much more useful, sort of like a gorilla war tactic lol

Jack Gunhawk 02-09-2008 07:59 PM

im thinking of going with the frigate, but the war galleon has me eye no doubt

Xiaolin 02-09-2008 08:18 PM

I think the War Galleon is better than a Frigate. :)

Jack Gunhawk 02-09-2008 09:54 PM

k now im leaning towards the war galleon

joshephe1 02-09-2008 10:34 PM

get one of both

Actually, Frigate and Galleon are the same speed. War Galleon is faster than a Frigate though, I believe, but Galleon and Frigate both have same speed. Get a War Galleon use it to plunder for gold to get the Frigate later. Simple as that.

Jack Gunhawk 02-10-2008 05:25 PM

that would result in getting war galleon first.

that way i could get 8000 easily

Dread Roberts 02-10-2008 06:44 PM

Ya, if you get a War Galleon, you'd make 8000 in no time.

Im not even sure why your debating getting a "normal" ship over a war ship anyways.

funktasticmo 02-10-2008 08:53 PM

I am in your same situation.. and I find it best to save for a war galleon then save for a war sloop and war frigate =) it is much easier and faster that way.

Jack Gunhawk 02-12-2008 12:25 AM

im going with the war ships. bcuz i wanna.

thank u

Jack Gunhawk 02-14-2008 03:12 AM

Lol good reason :happy8:

Jack Gunhawk 02-14-2008 03:28 AM

Thats my number one reason for lots o things lol

Jack Seawalker 02-14-2008 03:42 AM

only get the war galleon if you have a good high lvl cannon crew. otherwise you'll be sunk in that snail.

Davy 02-14-2008 03:52 AM

I prefer War Sloops, actually. Though they sink fast, if you are a good captain and experienced sailor you can easily outmaneuver the enemy cannon fire. Just make sure you have a few dots on Windcatcher, one on Come About, one on Ramming Speed, and a couple on Full Sail. If you have that, you'll fill up cargo fast in that speedy ship without taking too much damage.

If you want a more expensive ship, go with the Frigate. It is less maneuverable and a little slower, but still a step up from anything else (besides the Sloop).

Hope this helps!

Kate Bluefish 02-14-2008 07:10 AM

Yeah, yeah, yeah.. me knows me be a wench and all.. but me really :wub8: me WAR FRIGATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me'll admit ye get more cargo space in the galleon, but ye get a better hull in the Frigate. So to me, the extra 4 cargo's ain't worth it! Ye'll sink enough in a War Frigate!!

Just had to add me 2 gold pieces (2 cents... get it.. .hardy har har)....

and PS.. what does DAVY know???? (throws sand in his face)

Jack Gunhawk 02-14-2008 02:15 PM

Now im just confused...

As my friend Jason mentions its all about the power baby! I own two War Frigates and the War Galleon - and I never use the Galleon. In higher levels you are sent on too many quests to get ships - not for money - but for items to complete quests and the War Frigate has the power to take them and still enough holds that you make really good coin on each trip :)

Owing two war frigates also allows me to make-quick docs on deserted islands with a semi-battered ship (like Rums or Driftwood) then just grab the other and keep sailing after the big prizes (like after sinking a flagshp - the Hold is full, the ship is not bad but is shot up a bit - and there comes an Ironwall Flagship you KNOW has a Royal Chest on it and you have to get back out fast before it sails by).

Besides, War Frigates just look awesome :) Nothing is cooler than shipping out of Port Royal with 15 newbie light sloops in the water and half are saying what ship is that and the other start shooting becsue they think you MUST be an enemy ship being so big LOL

Jack Gunhawk 02-14-2008 02:44 PM

Im only at about 11000 coins though (been doing main quest alot) I think my closest bet is the war sloop, isnt it like the fastest ship in game (besides light sloop) on its own(no full sail or anything)?

I think after those getting a war frigate would be neet, its like the flying dutchman lol.

Pirate Rose 02-14-2008 02:45 PM

The ship I use most is the war galleon. You can sink just about anything in 2 or 3 hits with broadsides. The war galleon does require a certain way of sailing. I hardly ever sink in my WG and that 16 cargo haul is the best.

I have the WF and the WS also. They hardly ever see the high seas.

Jack Gunhawk 02-14-2008 02:47 PM

Im thinking the war sloop, cuz its fast and all. But in the end of all things, i only wanna end up with one ship.

Pirate Rose 02-14-2008 02:50 PM

Find a friend with all these ships and ask them if you can sail/plunder with each ship. Then make your decision :)

Jack Gunhawk 02-15-2008 01:44 AM

ok im definitley goin wtih war galleon.

DarthChaosSky 02-15-2008 01:58 AM

So the thread is done?

Jack Gunhawk 02-17-2008 06:16 AM

i bought the sloop, earnin for war gall. THe War SLoop sucks imo. Its costing me more :12_1_138: than its givin me.

now i p-oed so badly by it that im selling it. :skull:
