Poker-Cheating?

I was playing Poker in Port Royal. I swapped out one of my cards, then at the end of the round, it said:

You have been caught cheating. You have been confiscated of all your winnings and fined 100 gold.

Why is that so wrong? It sent me to jail:(

The Beautiful Letdown 02-09-2008 07:16 PM

You are allowed to swap cards, only thing i could say it was, was a bug because I've never seen that message before.

jg007 02-09-2008 09:10 PM

Lol are you serious!!

I have been caught cheating bout 5 times now :) . I must just have bad luck or be a bigger cheater ;)

im not sure of the exact likelyhood but it does happen and usually earns you a swift trip to jail and some lost money so I only tend to cheat when I have a really lousy hand or just need one to make a really good one ie: flush / straight flush

Stormrunner 02-09-2008 09:27 PM

I've managed to swap cards a half dozen times in the past -- always with the exact same result: Lost winnings, a 100 gold fine, and a swift trip to jail.

I don't even try to cheat anymore. Just not worth it, imo.

CaptainMonkeys 02-09-2008 11:16 PM

Same thing happened in Blackjack.

Vandelay 02-10-2008 03:11 PM

Can you EVER cheat successfully in Blackjack? I just assumed you couldn't, since all the cards are face up.

But yeah, if you get caught, they take back everything you've won since the last time you sat down at the table. So the key is, stand up every once in a while!

you are SO right, what is wrong with cheating? I mean come on people :vgrin:

Chris 02-10-2008 03:56 PM

we are pirates :vlaugh::vrolleyes::vgrin:

Dukk19 02-10-2008 04:01 PM

And the single fact that we are indeed pirates makes cheating ok, hmm? I might be wearing a three point hat and long coat to my next math test.:vgrin:

Chris 02-10-2008 04:03 PM

its odd u say that bc my pirate wears a three point hat and a long coat (word of advice i already tried cheating while dressed like a pirate didnt work teacher said that just bc i dress like a pirate does not mean i am a pirates and failed my test :D)

Dukk19 02-10-2008 04:06 PM

September 19th is, and i'm not making this up, international talk like a pirate day. It also just so happens to be the day i came into this cold, hard world. What a coincidence.:vgrin::vgrin:

Chris 02-10-2008 04:08 PM

lol if ye really want to be a pirate join the pirate renacting club (bunch of regualr day people who work in offices ect. who i think in june set sail on a sail boat and sail the 7 seas)

Davy 02-10-2008 04:09 PM

I think if we cheat, the bartender and the dealer should both become Lvl 20 and we have to defeat them to not go to jail. Then, a minute later, they both respawn and we go back to normal poker/blackjack playing.

Chris 02-10-2008 04:09 PM

LOL yea fight the dealer O_o

Dukk19 02-10-2008 04:11 PM

but the dealer is the same in padres, tortuga, port royal, and cuba, either that or he has clones:vhuh::vhuh:

Starfury 02-11-2008 08:37 PM

I'll admit: I've cheated at poker and won. I've also cheated and lost, also got caught, fined, and tossed in jail.

I don't do well at hold-em so only play enough to complete the quests. Same w/ Blackjack.

Sad thing: I fold with 3 and 5 off suit. The flop: 3 threes. I wanted to cry...could've suckered the whole table for big coin with that hand.

Angel 02-11-2008 08:58 PM

Getting caught cheating only happens when you swap a card into the dect and the same card is already in play. Like on the 5 turn cards, or in another players hands. The dealer check s the cards before the next hand and if theres a duplicate, boom u go to jail. Its a risk you have to take if you want to cheat.

Soy 02-12-2008 09:00 AM

Getting caught...

Angel.. It sounds like you get caught often??

Maximvs 02-12-2008 04:03 PM

Cards...

First time I tried to cheat - I got caught - $100 fine and Jail here I come LOL

Never tried it after that - was going to but then the cash kinda just started flowing in and i was set. Now I have 68 Cards, including a Royal Flush Set in Hearts and Diamonds (A, K Q, J, 10 in both)...

But I have so much money I've never needed to play the game 'for money' - just to do the quests. One day though when there is a slow time I would love to sit down for a few hours, go crazy at a table in Padres and see how well I do (or how many times I have to break out of Jail at Fort Padres - I'll be in the daily Leaderboard for Times in Jail that day LOL)

Angel 02-12-2008 08:37 PM

Not anymore. Expecially after I learned the trick.

padoc38 02-12-2008 09:08 PM

I have had this happen to me also. I Have been caught changing cards and had to leave the table..I think but the other day got caught after the hand was won,and not by me ended up in jail and lost 100 gold coin. I guess its a random event if you try to cheat.

Richard SharkBones 02-13-2008 02:58 AM

Yeah that happened to me like 3 times. I think it happens if you swap your cards too much during each games. If you swap your cards like 3 times in a row each game. You get caught cheating and get thrown in jail along with a fine of 100 gold.
Its not a bug. But it sucks.

Soufriere_hills 02-13-2008 03:02 AM

its never happened to me if they takem y 100 coins ill beat every dealer up -_-

DarthChaosSky 02-13-2008 03:29 AM

I love saying this: you're all wrong. (Except one person.)

The only way you get caught cheating is if you swap a card and the same card you swapped is already in play, be it in your hand, in another player's hand or on the cards placed face-up. This is why it is hard to cheat and why people usually get caught cheating at the end of the game.

For example, lets say the dealer places a Six of Hearts, and you just so happen to swap your first card with a Six of Hearts. Result: you're going to jail. If successful, however, you will receive the gold if you win the best hand. That's why I recommend swapping cards more to the end of the game, rather than to the beginning, when you're not sure if the dealer will place the card you just swapped.

Take it from the best cheater you'll ever play Poker with. ;)

It has nothing to do with how many times you cheat, and it's not random. It's because of doubled cards, and the dealer knows there are never two of any cards. There's four Kings in total, but there's no two Kings of Hearts; only one.

Speedway Master 02-13-2008 05:41 AM

She's right. You all probably get caught cheating a lot because you try to play the same card that you already have or the table has. Try swapping a card that has the same value but different suit.

sirboss 02-13-2008 09:10 AM

I have won over 25000 in gold and cheated once and was cought!

To begin with, I'm not that stupid -- nor do I think most people are. I would never swap a card that (a) I'm already holding, or (b) is showing on the table.

However, since there is no way of knowing what cards the other players are holding, it's possible I swapped for one of those; and, so, I was caught. If that is the case, there would be no way of preventing that from happening in the future since (I repeat) there is no way of knowing what cards the other players are holding.

Bottom line: I won't cheat again -- and win plenty without needing to try.

Angel 02-13-2008 09:15 PM

Yeah, thats the risk, you dont know what cards are in others hands. One thing I dont like is the spade and the club look simular on my end so its hard to tell the difference. I've accidently swapped the same card before. Hate doin that.

Pirate Rose 02-13-2008 11:54 PM

I always thought if the card was already on the table, you get the swap cannot be made message. And I kinda just figured the caught cheating was random.

So why do we get the swap cannot be made message sometimes?

bmm1321 02-28-2008 03:31 AM

i agree with u guys but the thing is, if u a card for a card on the board, or a card that someone else has, the dealer will see it and TAKE U OUT

Angel 02-28-2008 10:43 AM

Yep, and I actually read it ont eh POTC site. I think its under cheating.

The real Yellowbeard 03-01-2008 09:31 PM

I only got caught cheating once.. and I was trying to. I tried placing a card that was already in my hand, just to see what would happen. Busted of course, but that is the one and only time it happened to me, I've cheated many many times since then without ever getting caught.
I do think that a failed card swap could mean that card exists in someone else's hand already... I've seen the evidence and you never seem to get caught after the fact.

ancrom 03-21-2008 03:28 AM

the thing that drives me nuts is the computer cheats more than I do.
I was the only non computer player at the table I did not cheat
when the hand was over there where six aces on the table.
what the heck.
and for single deck black jack the dealer sure gets a lot of 21's
the computer cheats by using the other npc's to get the dealer a good hand
they will draw or not draw so the dealer gets a good card
I have seen npc's hold with a hand of 7 then miraculously the dealer gets 21
it's a shame really house already has a huge advantage

yamiyugi336 03-21-2008 04:24 AM

Well I have a glitch of my own. I am caught cheating, except I don't get fined, don't go to jail. Nothing happens, I just keep playing.

Eustace the Monk 03-21-2008 05:29 AM

The cheating is noticed when the card you swap into play ends up matching the card another player, NPC, Dealer, or table holds. This can even happen if everyone folds and it matched one of the folded cards. Cheating in Blackjack is much easier, as there tends to be fewer cards in play (with fewer people playing). With only the one NPC and Dealer to contend with, the odds of matching a card are much more in your favor. In poker, with just the NPCs, you have a total of 17 Cards in play (if the programming accounted for burn cards.

One thing I noticed, if you notice you got caught before the game announces, leave the table. You end up not getting fined or going to jail, then you get to sit right back down. Happy cheating to you all.

CaptainMonkeys 03-22-2008 12:05 AM

Hmm... I make popular threads sometimes,LOL.

I have not been cheating too much since that time.

Chris 03-22-2008 12:15 AM

personally i think i have over 100 cards but i never use them bc A) i almost never play card games and B) its pointless for me at least bc i walk into a poker game with liek 1000 coins and 1 hour later i walk out with 1000 coins O_ohappens everytime

Smash 03-30-2008 08:42 AM

I cheat all the time!!! =D It requires speed to search through your suits to see if you have the right number. If your playing at a high stakes table at Padres Del Fuego then 100 coins seem so little.

Chris 03-30-2008 12:11 PM

aye true i dont even know how many cheat cards i have lol some where in the 100

Dr. Zeppers 04-09-2008 11:51 PM

I use the cheat cards at black jack at padres...

in with 1k, out with 5k (in about 10-15 minutes).

CaptainMonkeys 04-12-2008 11:39 PM

I don't play poker too much, and remember, don't use cheat cards unless you think you can get away with it! Have at least 200 gold at hand before cheating.

podbuster 05-03-2008 02:04 PM

I have only ever got caught once, the first time I ever tried to swap. Looks like I have good luck :)

edit: The dealer should be the Soup **** from Seinfeld.
"You cheat?!?! NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!!!!!"

Altair 05-03-2008 03:56 PM

I don't know if somone has said this before, but you get caught cheating if the card you swapped is already on the table, or in someones hand. This means if you have 2 of the same cards, you will be caught cheating as well.

Also, you can indeed cheat in Blackjack, it's not difficult at all, just you have less time; so thinking quickly, and clicking fast is the key. ;)

Angel 05-04-2008 12:04 AM

LOL I will have to admit Ive started cheating at blackjack lately. Max bet and cheat...Ive almost made 10K :)

superblackdoom 06-05-2008 05:23 AM

if i could fight the dealers there would be no dealers ever

Dread 06-17-2008 12:58 AM

Oh wow, I had no idea this could happen! Thanks for the info. I haven't cheated yet, but I've thought about it.

davy redflint 06-17-2008 02:06 AM

the cheater penalty lol sometimes it works and sometimes it send u to jail

League 06-17-2008 04:45 AM

It's best to play in a group of 3, doing it in this manner: one person, after winning, must drop out, if they so feel they may be inclined to cheat as such in the future. The other two, the enablers of the pot, stay in for the next round and reveal their hands to each other. As soon as possible, the one who left is to get back in and join.

You see, if you cheat, you can use (if you have them) the cards in your oppoent's hand if they'd help you. Then, they can build up a pot, and drop, or, to save you some time, just drop. As well, you can see another player, limit further what hands your opponent could have, and so on.

The best way to cheat thus is to not do it personally.

larkija 06-17-2008 12:44 PM

Heh, I like cheating in Blackjack. :)

Jack Darkbane 06-17-2008 02:06 PM

Cheating is a great way to win alot of money and loose alot of money, you have to be smart to cheat but unfortunately the majority of pirates is not all that smart such as dude with one eye.

narutocooper 06-17-2008 09:32 PM

i dont cheat anymore unless i want to go jail :)

Wildwood 06-17-2008 11:01 PM

I cheat sometimes when I think the pot is going to be worth it, but if everyone has folded except for one person you tend to get caught more.

rade775 06-18-2008 12:08 AM

yea i say he that he calls some navy randomly and if we fight them and win we make the dealer pay us for 1000 gold

Wheelsim 06-18-2008 05:24 PM

Yeah cheating in blackjack is the best. youre going to get caught less and u can bet much higher as well.

League 06-19-2008 04:00 AM

In Padres, I'm finding the players more conservative. If they don't fold, they ain't got much. You can find that handy when the table is like a four card sequence, short of a great hand by one card. Use that info to help you switch.

grayman 06-19-2008 02:51 PM

As I understand it, when you are caught cheating, you get thrown in jail, fined, and they take all of your winnings since you sat down. The simple solution then (aside from waiting until the end of the hand to cheat to decrease the odds of duplicate cards and getting caught) is to stand up from the table after each successful instance of cheating. Then simply sit back down. That way, any winnings from the previous hand are safe even if you get caught later.

Actually, you should probably stand up more often than that. Sometimes you'll win four or five hands in a row WITHOUT cheating. It's good to stand up then too, because if you cheat on the next hand and get caught, you lose all your non-cheating winnings too. I try to stand up after every 2000 gold, or sooner.

Its alot harder to "cheat" (with cheat cards) in Poker and get away with it because there are far more cards being played each hand.

Blackjack is the easiest place to cheat and get rich from it.

League 06-23-2008 02:19 AM

Technically, you shouldn't be able to cheat at poker, because the table needs to see it the second you bust...

I think you mean blackjack (not poker)... But I get it. I found it amusing that you could swap cards in blackjack (that are played face up on the table).

Then again, you shouldn't be able to teleport from island to island, and you shouldn't be able to get on your ship in Tortuga that you last left docked in Port Royal. LOL
