Treasure sense and other people shooting your targets

Does it affect your treasuresense ability or chance to get better loot if someone shoots at the ship you are engaging?

Lately I've had people following me around when I'm sailing and they shoot at things once I engage them. I usually go home with treasure chests and royals in my galleon but lately since people have been doing this I've been getting mostly crates and I wonder if they are related.

nat sharkskull 05-21-2008 07:01 AM

I like the help sometimes when I take on a phantom, or high level boats. I see boats that take one shot and then wait until I sink her and take some of the loot, but it is just a game. I just wished they would take some of the damage too.

I have been sinking alot these days, have you? lol

Samantha Wildhound 05-21-2008 07:23 AM

i guess since now they cant steal land rep as much..the leechers have moved more to the seas.

Maximvs 05-21-2008 01:01 PM

Donno about the 'gulls' taking some of the loot - but I did notice that when I use my War Gal I get more Chests and Crates and when I use my War Frig I get more RC's...

It's almost like the game knows I'm trying to stuff more in - so it gives less :) Possible it has to do with the firepower of the ship (more Broadsides on a Gal I think - causing more damage per shot = less treasure)...

Where's Angel at? :D Shes good at getting those 1200 Drops - maybe her science has an answer...

Haffgrim 05-21-2008 01:02 PM

lol i know it makes me fustrated when ppl steal rep (I.E. High lvls Shooting Lvl 9s when i'm trying to get some good REP) But now the seas??? I wish you could sink 'em.

Jason Redskull 05-21-2008 02:05 PM

I have my treasure sence maxed out and if I'm taking out the big baddies between PDF and Outcast... I'm bringing in close to 1000 per drop while haveing a four person crue. Don't know how much the treasure sence helps... but I'm not complaining! :12_1_138:

Dr. Zeppers 05-21-2008 02:56 PM

I have never attacked another players 'target' trying to steal reps or cargo. I have however done so trying to fulfill quest requirements. If I see a marauder I need on the horizon, and I high tail it there, to find another ship attacking it (seems to show the enemy ships way before it shows the pirate/player ships). Then I will usually take only one or two shots because I want a 'kill' not reps or cargo, just trying to get credit for my quest.

Only other situation I come across regarding this is, I often sail off of PDF, and have watched ships shooting a navy ship for example, I engage a nearby EITC ship, and before sinking thiers, they start shooting at mine.. well i usually take a shot at thiers too... I mean its only fair..

That's me too. The only thing that reallly chaps my..... hide ..... is when I am soloing and away from the helm using cannon and some ..... moron ..... pulls in front of my firing solution so as to purposefully take away my ability to shoot the target. At that point, I will sail up close enough to click on the player and whisper to him/her and ask why. Once I have some conversation, I hit the report function.

Lucy 05-21-2008 03:29 PM

I think i'm going to start doing that Racket, I'm tired of the rude behavior when it comes to ships, it leaves me dreading to have to head to sea for a quest.

Aliese 05-21-2008 04:30 PM

I don't know if it's just me, but I really don't expect nearly as much from people sailing as I do on land. There aren't tons of ships around, and sailing's slow, so it's not like you can just take two seconds and run to another one if the one nearest to you has already been tagged by another ship.

That said, it's still not good, so I stick to quiet servers in an attempt to avoid it. I've had a bit of trouble even on those (same deal - I'll park and use a cannon and have someone sail right up next to me and block my fire, also, the kids [I assume they're kids] who just sit there in their little light sloop and shoot at me over and over and over and over...).

Angel 05-21-2008 07:04 PM

LOL thanks Maxximvs.......As for treasure sence, Ive heard rumors on that as well. The last cannoneer to shoot the ship, it goes by them, or the capt if they used broadsides? Once again, not sure but it did seem like we got better loot when we have alot of higher lvl pirates with max treasure as crew mates. Also if you have 2 ships goin after the same ship (ie. Juggs), one ship may get royals, the other would get crates....tested personally.

Once in a while you get the Royal Explosion and it seems like every ship you sink has royals on it. Thats what we call "Stocking the server". I can do a test on it against the colossous later. Same server, same ship, using all 3 war ships. I will post up my findings later today with screen caps of each loot haul.

Angel 05-21-2008 10:05 PM

OK as promised......

War Sloop:

War Galleon:

War Frigate:

Loot:

Now keep in mind that this was all on the exact same server hittin the Colossous flag, using Lightning to take the colossous down each time, and Grapeshot on the capt. The only variation was the ship I used.

Snorri 05-21-2008 10:34 PM

Wow maybe buying my warsloop wasn't a waste
:D

Thrawn33 05-21-2008 11:12 PM

I'm not saying I've never shot a target someone else was shooting at, but I can explain. I'm usually leaving Padres and end up running into bad guys coming after the "longballers" that sit close to Padres. With the ability of baddies to shift targets now, I take no chances and broadside any ship that gets in range and looks like it might engage.

I'm not trying to steal kills, its just self defence.

Angel 05-21-2008 11:20 PM

Theres a difference between self defense and shadowing someone. Your situation is perfectly OK with me....if u shadow me, then be prepared to fight for urself.

Is that like stocking salmon in a pond? LOL :) Someone call me when they see the 'hand of POTCO God' reach down and start dropping little Golden Chests into the water :D

Snorri 05-22-2008 03:11 AM

Darnit, looks like I've been doing it the hard way for so long. I just did about 8 runs off kingshead getting the flag manowar and my War sloop brought in a whole lot more than my Galleon just like angel's results.

Arg :P!

Angel 05-22-2008 03:36 AM

LOL yeah. Its what we call it when we find a rich server. Stockin the lake, lol. Now when I need gold, Im takin out the Stallion!!!

This is my War Gally best with

shipmates with no sense of
treasure sense at all LOL

Mystdee 05-22-2008 04:55 AM

Yes, I have had "shadowers" too, that is annoying, so I definitely don't do that, But I have taken shots at a ship being engaged by someone else, whether it be to defend my own ship or to try to help, I have done it when a low level ship is taking on a Phantom or a really BIG ship, I know I appreciate a little help when I am up against those big guys as I usually am sailing alone. . and only taking them on for a quest of some sort. . . . ;) If it looks like they are doing fine on their own, after I see where the big ship's HP is at I will back off and move on.

curranklan 06-02-2008 07:40 PM

im not one to complain....but these guys shootin me when i get a ship before them is starting to get on my last nerve

rade775 06-02-2008 11:11 PM

what sever were u on i want to make some crazy money like that or maybe it is ur treasure sense

JamiSings 06-09-2008 01:35 AM

Gee, I always think of it as me helping out. I usually only get crates but I have a low level ship. I like it when other ships come along and help me sink something be it high or low level. I just hate it when a stronger ship sees me heading for a target, then just has to beat me there so they can sink it first, and on top of that think it's funny to fire upon me as well. I've actually had high level player ships chase me all over for no good reason firing on me. They think it's funny to pick on me.

But as far as me firing on other ships that players are targeting, like I said, I view it as helping them. Just like when someone's attacking someone on land I'll run up with my voodoo doll and do what I can to help them. Cause I like it when people do that for me, so why shouldn't I do it for others?

I agree somewhat.

However if I see ships obviously leveling cannons, or something where it appears like they are after reps... I try to leave them be.
(sorry if your shooting one of my quest items!!! I'm gonna take a shot at it.. I "NEED" it and some ships are just hard to find...)

If the rewarding of treasure from a ship is related in any way, it's likely similar to how reps are divided. But I think its still based on how hard it was for you to take down the target (regardless of help), with some random processes joining in.

JamiSings 06-09-2008 06:12 AM

See, I think the treasure has to do with the level of the player's ship. I've crewed a few higher level ships of people in my guild and even when one to three other ships fire on our target, we still get a large haul. Where on low level ships I've been on who take out the ship all by themselves get a small haul, usually crates. So I don't think the number of players firing on a target have any effect.

I mean, I appreciate it when someone comes along and even just fires once or twice. Now I agree when they shove inbetween me and the target it's rude. But I've done that many times by accident. The server lag, even on quiet ones, is really rotten and makes sailing extremely difficult. I often can't respond in time and find myself shoved between ships. I try my best to get out, but sometimes I just can't.

I agree Jami that sometimes it is someone trying to help out and I don't mind that, but when they are shadowing you, in their light sloop to get a shot at the big ship you can bring down and they can't ( I sail a War Galleon) and getting between you and your target making it hard for you to get a shot in is just rude :sadmh9: I usually change servers when there are shadowers following me around.

I too try to help a low level on land, and sometimes at sea, I like healing them and allowing them to defeat the higher targets to level up, but not all appreciate it :0, so if they fire on me or swing a sword at me I back off and let them fend for themselves. :degen:

Peggo 06-12-2008 09:21 PM

I try to help out the smaller ships without sinking their prey. It's hard to tell who need help at sea though. If we could see their ship hull's status maybe we could know when to rescue and went to sail on.

JamiSings 06-13-2008 01:44 AM

See, high or low level I do my best to help my fellow pirates. Cause I've had random people who'll come up and heal/guard me when I'm searching a crate or digging I feel it's only right I do the same for others. Sort of a "pay it forward." And I do the same for ships.

Now granted, right now I have a whole slew of sea-related quests - I need, in total between two quests 16 bottles of battle-touched salt water. I also need barnacles, cursed wood, ect. Almost all my quests between Tia Dalma and the tattoo lady on Padres are sailing related. So there is some benefit for me to do it right now, but I do it even when there's no benefit to me.

nat sharkskull 06-13-2008 02:25 AM

How do you do that??? I sink most of the time because there is about four baddies hitting me at the same time. I have a war sloop but it getting pretty water logged these days. lol

Wheelsim 06-13-2008 02:44 AM

I definatly agree with this. But really what can we do about it anyway?

My case, sheer luck. If I get out there in time when some other ships have weakened a ghost ship but been sunk then I can usually finish them off. I'm only level 12 sailing, however, so it's not easy and most the time I get sunk. I've still got nine pieces of cursed wood and three bottles of battle-touched water involving ghost ships to go. I really wish someone from these boards who's a lot stronger sailing wise would be on when I'm on and we could crew up. (I also still need to sink a French Shadow Crow.)

As for "doing anything about it." I don't see why we'd want to. We all benefit in the end. And I really don't think it has anything to do with how many ships as with the strength and cargo hold of the ship.

Tab1975 06-13-2008 08:19 PM

I'm such a sad sailor nobody shadows me. :( Unless it's to pick off the ship I was firing on before it sent me to the depths to, as my guild says, find Nemo.

But LORD does it grate on my NERVES when players shoot at me. There are a few times I'm on a warship with a guildmember and it's only us, or one other player. And all I hear is the sound of us beign hit, so I'm up off the cannon, running around like a chicken (cheeecken?) to see where we're getting hit and where I need to shoot. Only to find a jabroni being an idiot.

Lord I need my blood pressure medicine and I'm not evening playing.
