Have you (or a friend) left the game out of boredom?

I have met a new friend who said that nearly all of his other friends had maxed out and hadn't been on for a long time. He was eager to make new friends because there are times when we all need someone's help.

It's sad to make such good friends, and then it's over in a couple of months. I guess it's an opportunity to make new ones, though.

Gone but not forgotten, huh? :sadmh9:

I know I dropped my account to basic, but I havent left the game. Just waiting for the expansion to come out before i start paying again. Tired of just grinding and I can play for free to just hang out.

niltag 06-17-2008 06:58 PM

I left and came back.. did the weapons upgrades, except dagger, now just leveling. Hoping for some more quest.

Cheers

Dr. Zeppers 06-17-2008 07:40 PM

My guild, which is really based on my ongoing game clan has lost several 'active' members due to lack of content. Several of my still 'clanmates' have dropped to basic.

They may come back if they add content, in the meantime.. just a few of us "OFx" pirates left.

Due to the nature of our clan/guild however I cant just start inviting people.. so I live with it.

Not alot of these kids want to play with this crusty ole fart anyhow. ;)

(Our clan/guild consists of members 25 years of age or older. Potco doesnt do much for us knowing ones age, and bans people for telling thier age)

Chris 06-17-2008 08:33 PM

it is sad back in january when i join bad to the bonez we had members ALWAYS on and usually 5-10 at a time there was a sailing expedition almost everynight but then twords april once alot of our members either mastered their pirates and moved onto another game or got tired of grinding and left there were times i would be the only guild member on for hours but luckily more and more of our members are coming back on. I think if i were to ever compleatly master my pirate i would come on still juat to hang otu fool around or help others level not just abandon the game until updates then abandon it again but i do think disney needs to make more things to do like more events and activities to keep people playing.

Charlotte Grey 06-17-2008 08:42 PM

I left the game for a little while, and came back. But that was because I had no unlimited access, right when I needed it :(
Not much to do if it ain't a story.

Samantha Wildhound 06-17-2008 08:53 PM

I have left the game myself, and have seen a few of my close friends drop out and never come back..so i sorta lost interest as I never had my friends on, and that combined with the fact i couldnt level/ no quests left, i started looking elsewhere.

I did try to remain somewhat active at first..but was fooling myself, as i was pretty crippled being basic (no tp, crippled skills, no ship) so i couldnt see paying for another month just to chat and hang out, when i was getting involved in another MMORPG i found pretty interesting, which im still playing.

I do consider coming back if and when they raise the capor add something new to the end level pirates, as I really would hate to see all my effort be for nothing.

then again, ive already invested some time since i left into another mmo, im mid level, around 30, and not even near the cap on that game..and loving it..just wish i could get in touch with my friends..thats all i miss.

so Im honestly not sure what will happen, if ill stick to a game ive come to enjoy in a few months, or that ill come back here if things change :)

Well... as a relative noob, and not to sound negative - but dropping out due to boredom shows a lack of creativity on the part of the player.

THIS is assuming that the member is in a guild, and has an active friends list. With friends, you have lots of options that dont really get old (Which I understand leveling weapons can)

Ive seen many players play games 'in game' and the drama at Tuga in the evenings is pretty interesting in itself. (Soap opera fans listen closely! LOL)

People play hide and seek, pvp, look for hidden spaces and glitches, and just hang out.
I guess it doesnt get old for me even when Im not playing the game - Ive been done with the story chapters for a bit now - and am working on weapons - but its slow going because most of the time I enjoy playing/helping friends and new people, and just checking things out.

With the soon to come pvp ship games, I cant see how it can get dull.... but then, I practically invent something new to do nightly.

Perhaps that would be a great thread - what games have you or friends invented to play?

Hide and seek is the most common, and I admit - its fun.

:)

dangerousden 06-18-2008 12:58 PM

We have members on and off quite a lot. I'm hanging in there tho cos I am almost fully levelled. Only a few more levels to go. :)

I can appreciate people being "creative".

But why are we paying Disney $10/month?

Your basically saying here, that we have to create new ways of having fun ourselves so we can continue to justify giving Disney $10/month.

Convincing us that it continues to be worth $10/month is Disney's burden!

emmalemmalemma 06-18-2008 07:34 PM

I've played with a few people for several months, kind of helping each other out plundering together and what not. After we finished the boss battle we all got pretty bored. It seems to take a lifetime to do anything once you run out of quests.. But instead of dropping our accounts we started new characters that we are now bringing up together. We started a guild that we are fairly active in, and by active I mean we have events and weekly meetings and a guild site where we have created a background for our characters. It's actually made for a more pleasurable experience for me because we're having so much fun with it instead of making a mad dash to finish the pearl quest. That being said, if any of my friends leave it will be from the irritating banter of the children. "Am I hot?" "You're hot." "You're ugly." "At least I have a boyfriend." Completely annoying..

HERE! HERE!!!

I second that motion!

Starfury 06-18-2008 07:52 PM

I play a lot less than I used to; partially out of boredom due to lack of new challenges and mostly due to real life taking up my time. I did like the double rep quest over father's day, I managed to max out cutlass and cannons; also got a level in staff, dagger, and pistol. I still need to do the black pearl quest but haven't had time to find a crew to do it.

My kids also got bored quickly with the game (8 and 10) because they got tires of the repetitive quests and the grind to level weapons. My acct is paid up to the end of the month; I may let it go to July and if nothing new (or no time) I'll let it lapse to basic for a while.

Tab1975 06-18-2008 08:35 PM

There's a lot of my guild that are hardly on anymore due to boredom, or have dropped out completely. I myself don't play as much because of it.

Nelly Darkpaine 06-18-2008 11:21 PM

Oh.. I absolutely love the game play - but agree that Disney does need to keep it fresh for longtime players.... particularly with the Treasure Items - these should be developed into something rather than an absolutely meaningless graphic treasure hunt.

But - what Im saying is that there always seems to be something to do....

And yeah - the kids are one of the parts that can get old. Sometimes you'll be standing on a busy server at Tuga, and get continual "Will you be my gf" or the usual "Your hot" remarks. Or random friend requests...

But again, a paid player is a paid player... I wonder if the ignore button works on people other than friends. :D Gotta try that out!

I DO wish there were more 'acceptable ways' to talk to friends from your friend list tho.... or a way to set up a voice chat. Would be nice while sailing particularly!

Shadow Cat 06-19-2008 01:24 AM

I got bored mainly because of my guild, so I left for a while. I joined a guild with some old friends and I love it. I love talking and I usually end up talking more than playing. Now I'm juggling Toontown and PotCO so that extends my time of having something to do while still playing with friends. If I didn't know the awesome people in my guild, I would have gotten bored and left a long time ago...

Poison elf 06-19-2008 01:55 AM

It definitely ran its course when you have completed quests/ characters. Going somewhere else (game) and maxing a character there though has gotten old also. I have always been one to say skip graphics, the two people that care can go away, versus the rest of the players that would like to see some content. It never sinks in, and everyone gets a big lag game with nothing to do.

If it wasn't for Ventrilio, and talking to a bunch of the guild a lot of the time, I probably would have lost interest long ago. I now at least get to laugh at one of our guys getting banned almost weekly for saying the V word in pirate chat.

We have run contests and some of the limited members have gotten unlimited accounts by winning. We have made officer challenges as well, to give other challenges. Things like this can go only so far.

Its months on end now you can see daily rankings of people hitting 40. Meaning nowhere to go from there. The fathers day thing I think was a example of the don't care attitude Disney has been continuously showing. How many 100's of characters basically got a slap in the face with this 2 x 0 rep fathers day.

To add to this problem give the people that aren't quite there, a perk to get advanced and have nothing to do also. Don't think I understand that logic at all.

larkija 06-19-2008 02:38 AM

Oh no, I would die if the bf/gf comes around.

Anyway, I once quit for a while awhile back when I had basic. I had nothing to do, since I maxed out everything I could possibly do. Soon, I got unlimited and went right back on.

Bella 06-19-2008 03:27 AM

I have lost most of my guild and ALL of my officers to WoW because there is not squat for them to do. Yes it is disapointing to lose friends to other games but I can totally understand. I myself have became bored of the game. I only keep unlimited because my husband has not maxed his pirate and as a GM I feel It is my duty to stay. Otherwise I probably would have left too.

Peggo 06-19-2008 04:04 AM

My guild seems to have vanished too. I assume it's out of boredom. I have but the one character which I have played but not maxed out yet. I hate repeating things anyway.
Coming from beta and then from basic I did a lot of things three times, and now...nothing. I can't get through The Black Pearl, and it appears there's nothing after it???
How does Disney expect to keep paying players?

Steely Jim 06-19-2008 04:24 PM

I haven’t gone anywhere, but it sometimes seems like I have. I don’t generally spend a lot of time playing anyway, but I’m not even hitting 2 hours per week right now. Personally, I’m not likely to leave on the basis of being bored with the supplied content. My attraction to this game was generically out of interest in developing a pirate character, and specifically related to how much I enjoyed the ride the first time I went to WDW in 1977; the movie has relatively little to do with it, except that I do feel it feel it’s an authentic expression of the narrative shown throughout the theme park ride.

Neither “Leveling,” nor Questing, really drives much of my interest in MMOs. My interest is in developing characters that feel “authentic” in the context of the game world. I also gravitated to PotCO due to its “MMOG lite” nature, as I know I don’t have the time to play a hardcore MMORPG. Just like is commonly mentioned in this game, as it pertains to guilds, people are usually looking to maintain a repeated high density of social interactions with the same people within the game. Since my play style is never to spend long stretches in the game, and because I regularly come and go on multi-week cycles (i.e. I play for a few weeks, then don’t bother for a few weeks, then go back to it for a few weeks, and so on), I long ago relegated myself to just amusing myself by socializing with whomever happens to be around rather than a finite group of players.

I know that most of the mainstream games make much out of “level grinding” and “group memberships,” but not all MMOGs are so dependent on content additions to drive interest in play. My favorite play experiences have been on games that were often still technically in development, and after expansions characters were regularly stat-wiped; no one cared in those games because their relationships were built on the personalities they gave to their characters, not the stats/completed quests associated with those characters.

For now, PotCO is the best fit for me; however, the flashy, high-speed grindfests will never seem as appealing to me as the role-play driven concepts like the Eternal Lands, PlaneShift(s), and Illarion(s) of the MMO universe.

poisonpanik 06-20-2008 04:46 PM

Myself and a few guild mates are dropping our accounts to basic... Disney left nothing for us higher level pirates... I am 1/2 way to lvl 37 and all my weapons are min level of 18 (nades and doll 25) and I've completed every quest in the game to-date... What is there left to do but grind which is MINDLESS and BORING.... I wrote disney and told them they should put a HUGE dungeon in kingshead with lvl 40+ enemies that will require you to master everything or crew up to actually do any real good in there. Highly doubt they even care... This is why I've left every other online RPG I've ever played... Lack of high level content to keep it fresh.

THIS is assuming that the member is in a guild, and has an active friends list.

I realize that. At the time, the only person on my guild was my brother. And he was never online.
All he'd be doing - playing Super Mario Party 8 on our Wii. Not so fun if you're alone. Besides, people kept rejecting the guild invites... :mybadki6:

Now they don't, thank heavens, so once my unlimited access runs out, I don't have to worry about having a life as a pirate.

And...at least my brother PLAYS now, when I'm playing. So I'm a lot less bored.

Thank GOD! :piratewheelgo2:

And, by the way, poisonpanik, it probably takes Disney a while to get each thing up. So if I were you, I'd keep emailing them repeatedly until they get the point. They may already be working on it. Who knows? Oh, and seriously, when does Pirates Online ever get "MINDLESS and BORING?" I mean, come on, you're living the life of a PIRATE. Not some Disney Toon character... I understand your viewpoint though, for higher level pirates, it must be difficult.
I know Disney is developing higher level stuff right now, at least, that's what they told me when I asked. So you should probably wait.

poisonpanik 06-21-2008 03:13 PM

Charlotte, I plan on switching to basic until something new comes out. No need to pay Disney for me to be bored... I've got plenty of friends and I do help them out (mainly a stationary healer) but eventually it would be nice to actually have some sort of goal to ascertain again... They left 0 incentive for me to master anything on purpose so why should I grind? That's all I've got left...

Charlotte Grey 06-22-2008 08:27 PM

Ah, I see. I was assuming you were just...leaving forever....
I didn't even realize you were paying right then. :)
Again, I think that's why you should wait for the new stuff. :)

davy redflint 06-23-2008 01:19 PM

pay a year so i'll keep playin , 1 pirate lelf to lvl out then what is ther to do but quit. maybe they will upgrade the lvls and let u hav more than 4 pirates.

Silver Locket 07-03-2008 04:25 PM

A good friend of mine left not only from boredom but frustration with all the bugs in game. I've had people tell me how other games are far better than this one, but for now I'm looking to be a pirate. I do wish we had more to keep us busy, but it's my choice to stay or go.

I pay one month at a time, the time will come when I shall set sail from POTCO, but not just yet.

Joseph 07-16-2008 01:10 PM

I got bord with the game so I left for about a month and then came back
