Lag issues, Have you tried this.

I know I posted this before but we just had a guy spend like a week trying to get into the game. Tech support had him do the same oh, and update drivers etc.

For xp users go to start/setting/control panel/display/setting/advanced/troubleshoot.

Move the hardware acceleration down a click or two. Turn write combining off. Ta-da, another player can get in the game now.

You will want to get help for this, but you can also hit contol-alt-del and bring up the windows task manager. Check how many processes you have running. Pirates launcher, internet explorer, some things you don't need to have running while in the game you can take out.

1) Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer.
2) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline.
3) Double click on game_options.txt.
4) Make sure "state" has "working" on the line directly below it. If you see "attempted_working" change it to "working."
5) Under "api", please change the text from "default" to "pandadx9".
6) Save the file then launch the game.

If you don't have this file on your computer, you will need to create one in the PiratesOnline directory.

1) Go to Start | Run.
2) Type "Notepad" in the Open input box then click OK.
3) Add the following text precisely as you see it below:
state
working
api
pandadx9
4) Click File | Save As
5) Name the file "game_options.txt"
6) Save the file to C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\PiratesOnline then launch the game.

These settings changes will instruct Pirates Online to only use DirectX 9 as the graphic API.

I saw that also somewhere on one of the posts. Mine was listed as working, so I changed it to the pandadx9, instead of default.

When I tried it I didn't see anything noticeable. May have to do with people that have the attempted_working listing.

I did what Chris quoted here awhile back and it definitely sped up the game for me.

mlratto 06-19-2008 05:27 PM

i changed my setting from default to pandadx9 and my performance got really bad. so i changed it and i'm back to semi-irrating lag and bad lag when things become crowded.

oh well...

I did what chris said and noticed a difference in performance then I wondered what would happen if I tried it with directX 10 "pandadx10" (running Vista) and it worked. saw a very noticable difference in game speed.

If you make a copy/backup of the file first, then your covered. However, if it does cause any problem and you dont have a backup, I would just delete it. The game should generate one on its own if its necessary.

I don't understand something :
I've changed "default" to "pandadx9" , I've saved the file , but when I leave the game and I go the "game_options" file , "pandadx9" has changed to "default" !

So why ?
(Sorry for my bad english :s)

I have tried and its works better! But "pandadx10" changed to "default" when I leave the game !

Your right... It happened to me too. I'm not sure why maybe someone else knows?

Dr. Zeppers 07-30-2008 06:28 PM

I believe what is happening, is that changing the file to say pandadx9 (or 10) forces the software to change its default. When it loads up afterwards, it must be using the pandadx# option as the default.

I cant believe this, I have lived with the game crashing upon exit on my vista laptop forever.
I just changed the setting from pandadx9 to pandadx10, and no more CRASH!!!!

Your welcome.

After a bit more playing with my system and that setting, im thinking what it does is actually just remind the game to try more current versions of DirectX support.

Studied some old logs and found it was originally diverting to DX8 when it couldnt get OpenGL to work on its own. Now of course it uses DX10 (im assuming, these log files arent THAT clear.. hehe). I know I had used the pandadx9 before, with measured success, and now that im using pandadx10 it seems to have improved even more.

Chris 08-09-2008 03:13 PM

i wonder what pandax11 would do LOL

Sarah 08-09-2008 04:05 PM

The pandadx9 fix was what was sent to me from Disney to relsolve graphics issues. I have an ATI card, (also running Vista) and it's not "officially supported" by POTCO.
