Lot of Beta keys given out
http://disney.go.com/pirates/online/thegame/video.html
According to this they gave out 10,000 beta keys  |
Hey, they are using an old build version of the game. The interface has changed since.
And did you guys see how SMOOOOOOOOOTH the game play was on those pc's? Not even a single LAG??? I want one of those pc's!! Or at least tell me what they did to get the game so SMOOOOOOTH! lol |

Those of us on the east coast went through this pain years ago on Toontown. It's a whole lot more hops (router/gateway connections) between here (DC area) and California, and you're only as fast as your slowest hop. Do a Traceroute and you'll see just how many there are. |
I just dont understand why they can't get their network code right, I can play on US servers for LOTRO with hundreds of players around me with no lag at all.
And im in Australia Yet I can't play Pirates Online when 3 people walk past? Hopefully they move to a better Datacenter soon with a better pipe to the outside world. |
Just wait until all those people try to log on, and they get the evil Microsoft message. Or, maybe they won't because they get an old version? I had to update graphics driver to get back on on my HP. And, I have a high end graphics card. (because I like to game) Thought it was suppose to be for min. spec. machines!:D
|
Yay, I got that message too! I thought I was all
alone, he he. It is sad though... first I could log in, but my graphics card was not good, so I could not see anything. Now, when I can log in because they lowered the expectations, I get the pop-up. Arg! |

Yes, you can kind of tell when they played because it's different now.
And they didn't show any bugs... ;) ~Q/S |

You open a command prompt window by going to Start --> Run... --> and type cmd and press enter.
Then in the command prompt window you type: tracert www.piratesonline.com |
Quote:
Go to: Start>All Programs>Accesories>Command Prompt This will put you at the familiar "C:\" prompt. (Remember that?) At the "C" prompt enter: tracert piratesonline.com (Return) That's it..... |

I found it hard to believe also. But thats what they say in the clip.

Are the higher numbers slower? Or the low ones? This is what I get. Can you explain what this means? Took out IPs. I blame the RAM requirement... Those PC's may have a high amount of RAM, allowing the game to run more smoothly. It's a slight possiblity.
Yes, 10,000 beta keys were released, but how many of those 10,000 beta keys will actually lead people to log into Pirates Online on their own PC's after they use their team's PCs? I highly doubt even a half will attempt to download the game, and then 1/4 of that will be able to get on the game.. So you see, they gave out so many because they knew not everyone would/could get onto Pirates Online, and many beta keys are being lost in cyberspace. |
I may not have the best computer, and the game certainly does not run perfect for me. I live in California, about 200 miles from the servers. But the game certainly doesn't run fast for me. I can only imagine how much worse it is for you east coasters.

But it's not too many more hops from where I am (in the Caribbean) to the the game servers than those in the US. Although I haven't checked as yet. |
I did a hops tracer, and it traced 9 hops. I guess that is a substantially low amount?
|
Well on this tracert thing, one thing to rememeber that over half those hops are probably actually u negotiating your own ISP servers.
Mine does 14 similiar hops b4 it traces route to web site i selected. Good way to tell, is to trace to a non exiistant site, see how many hops it does b4 it cannot complete one. TBH, i dont think that really tells u too much, as that just tells you how it gets to pirates website. I'm no expert, but im sure once you've logged in, game its self negotiates transfer itself, so wud be different anyways. Obviously theres no doubt that further away you are from server, the slower the connection, so if like me you play from overseas u are at a slight disadvantage, but its not super fast action game in the most, certainly not a super fast first person fragger game, thats for sure. But its clear here that people in US are have just as much lag as others, not even ones that u would say they were close are getting anythign they cud say was resonable. So no excuses for POCTO team there. There is a latency button in game f6, which tells you ping in ms, in a game like UT2004, i wud prefer a ping of under 100ms, in a game like pirates, 200-300 wud be as long as i would want the average delay. Course this is tricky area to predict on whats best, but it is a guide. On the faster action sections of the game, the lower the better is for sure. All figures aside, the visual guide is best, are the pauses i see minimal and short enough not to make want to bang the computer table in frustration, well obviously for most of us, this certainly not the case at the moment. Lag stinks out on the east coast.. I was out visiting friends and we had like 10people playing during a Lan party this weekend.. I know it was not our systems since most of us get 23 to 40 Frames per sec.. I mean that is with just a stand gaming system.. I am running dual 2200 amd xp with 2gb of ram and dual SLI Nvidia cards. but this game still runs smoth for about 1 min then freees for a sec while my system catches up with the servers then it runs smooth again for a nother few mins then freezes.. The same thing used to happen to me on Starwars Galaxies before they installed all the new servers and added mid west, east and eroupe servers.. and remeber everyone this is beta so I am sure we are playing on a rack of servers in a closet somewhere.. LOL I just hope that once the final build of the game is realeased for testing they kill all of accounts and let us sign in to the real Live servers 2 do the final test. then we will be able to see what this game can do.. I mean look at G3 they had a little sign that said that Disney plans that over 100,000 people will play the free verison the day the game goes live, and of those half will want to play the real game by subscribing, and the little sign also said that Disney plans on have 50 servers worldwide running the game.. so Like you are all saying we really dont know anything and each day brings something new... :-)
Happy testing everyone |
I am new to the forums, but not to beta testing online games. I am actually shocked that there is talk of it going live anytime soon. Do not mistake this as a bashing. There are many aspects of this game I am looking forward to once they are flushed out.
I do not have a high end PC anymore, but still can pull down constant 60fps in WOW, Guild Wars, DAoC, BF2 and CS:Source. (And looking at the rig from above wildtaz should have 0 issues with framerates). WoW in a battlefield with 60 plus folks going at in on the screen no less. The pipe or the hops should be a non-issue for well written net code, which appears to be the culprit. As argued further above, with only 60 or so folks on a night, spread across to game worlds, that shouldn't tax it a current high end system. I can run a 32 player BF2 server on my rig and DSL connection sans issues. And since this all speculation, maybe the devs are coding on the server directly... Someday we will all run RAM Disks and Fiber to the house... |
ppl think it will be open soon and some don't we dont know lol. but if they got rid of lag people would be thrilled! lol

Well all this springs from Disneys online own announcement that it wud release late spring.
On game estimates, they usually get pushed back, and online ones even more so. Who knows when it will come out. On the fps part, I have Pentium D915 dual core, 1.5gig of ram and 256meg geforce 7600gs, and i get average of 30fps, when its not lagging, whcih TBH is most of the time. But im sure that they using limited server capibility, and once they crank them all up, it will get better. Unlike their sister game TT, this is not unique enough, to not take seriously, the competition is out there. With similiar games, and if they want to take some of the market share, they will have to get this working well, and they will take as much time as they need, regardless of what they may tell the press to keep them off their backs. 'Keep it Kool ' |
yes, before this game opens, they'll need to fix the bugs first.
yes, when they buy a bigger server, the game will go more smoothly So, we'll just wait lol. ~Cpt.Sea |
