The "new" ship invincibility glitch; SvS glitch #1743

Noticed this several times last night: the original SvS ship invincibility glitch is back. Enemy ships can be "hit" with damage scored against them, but their health meter never budges. They remain in the game, are still able to sail around, still able to have people board, etc.

Click the image to view the full version

Pictured here is after about 30 volleys hitting the aft: 90 shots doing 360 points of damage each. (You can see at least one "-360" over the poop deck. Sail points presumably were damaged before entering the glitch; hull points remain full.)

The first ship I saw doing this glitch last night, was a captain who avoids glitching (from my conversations with her, at least) and she was unable to get out of the glitch without logging out (taking many thousands of gold doubloons with her when she left, contrary to her normal habits.)

While this has occurred irregularly in the past, after an hour or so last night, a half dozen ships mysteriously all had the same glitch.

That's just wrong. hmf, The nerve of some captains............

AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! and i was just about to work on my SvS quests. so given how few servers actually have people SvSing, my guess is i will undoubtably run across ships like this....making the non sinking part of the quest almost impossible.

On the positive side...

captain who avoids glitching (from my conversations with her, at least) and she was unable to get out of the glitch

it appears the glitch may be happening without the knowledge of the captain. so maybe i'll be invinsible by accident! :) and i can complete the quest.

anyway, not happy with this new report...hopefully it will get fixed shortly.

There was one time sometime last Fall, it happened on one of the N-servers cant remember which one. About 5 ships on each side were in SvS so about 10 total. NONE of us could damage anyone. It was so ridiculous. Broadsides nor cannons would take down anyone's ship meter. It would show up damage points above the ship but the damage would not affect the ship meter. Some of us stopped sailing & just sat still & fired at the enemies next to us & still nothing. So we switched to one of the A-servers and it was gone... it might've been a server issue coz everyone in SvS on that N-server was affected.

Hey Sven, You know I will play sitting duck for ya at any time. I bet Piper would too.

Yup it was navago or navona...funny thing is that, the game HAD just went down for maintenance and when it allowed us to finally log in, we went to SvS and encountered that bug lol. We switched to check the A-servers where everything was normal, came back to that N-server and we saw that the N-server was still affected with the bug...it was totally weird.

i believe this glitch is caused when you hit take cover and then port and then relaunch your ship, but i am not fully sure and i have not tested it, but i did have open fire on and never ending one time

Bafia 01-08-2009 11:07 AM

I was on that ship and it was not able to sail around was able to shoot from cannons and board yes but it is not a glitch it is a program flaw. not sure how it happens but was not intentional, and was not my ship.

When I saw it first, it was clearly glitched (as pictured) but indeed, it did move from the West side of Avaricia, to about mid-field, about one minute before that screenshot. Whatever the fawls are that lead to that exploit, that ship had high bounty the entire time...not being able to sink being an obvious factor.

Dhestroyer 01-10-2009 09:52 PM

LOL this is very interesting. I saw that ship - got screens of it too - the ships OWNER, I KNOW who he is. That ship was glitched all day and it did move, but only near their island. My crew and I tried to unglitch it or move it with our ships, but couldn't. So we noticed that the ship had been opened to public. So me and a friend boarded it. We were going to try to take the wheel and port it. We couldn't take the wheel. The green circle would show, but when you hit shift to take the wheel it would turn blue but not let you actually take it. Now while on the ship the "OWNER" was AFK and pirates were on the cannons shooting any enemy ship that happened near it. Sinking them all as they ran up their bounty. (I have screens of this too along with the owner) Interestingly while I was aboard it, the ship did began to take damage. The repair holes appeared. Those on cannon got excited and ran to the holes and fixed it - once. And I was aboard that ship for 15 minutes. Trying to get the cannoneers to quit shooting the other ships ... alas it was to no avail. Hehe I did report all that were on board.

I had a conversation with the "OWNER". Asked him how he did that 'glitch'. He said he didn't know how he did it that it happened after he sank .... BUT he also said he opened the ship after he glitched and in his words "thought it was funny". (I have screens of this convo too) I found it not humorous at all. In my opinion he should have logged out. I even asked him about it, his reply, "there was someone AFK on the ship". My reply to that was it was your ship you should have then decrewed and closed the ship to friends, crew, guild and public. Then log out after the AFK person left.

I mean really folks - you can't take the bounty with you, now can you? And if you are sitting on a ship that you can't sail what is the fun in that? Just to run up the bounty and perhaps get on the leaderboard for the day? Sigh.

BTW the next night there were two more ships doing the same thing. Sitting at the island with cannoneers shooting ships and not taking damage.

Edward Edgemenace 01-10-2009 10:29 PM

Um, we're not supposed to name names (I had to leave the boat name intact in the picture to show the correspondence between the ship I was hitting and the lack of damage.)

Anyhoo, that ship in particular goaded me, as it was moving around quite a bit, stopped only a minute or so, before that screenshot. And it was copied quite a bit since then. Pretty much the norm, for high bounty ships on Abassa, now.

The blue-circle glitch, I believe, is entirely separate. That would be a subsequent glitch (of allowing people from the oppsing team's crews to board and take wheel.) Presumably, that glitch was added to thwart the various "assassination" glitches, (to no avail.) That's what the release notes at the time said, when the blue circle glitch (enemy crew on board) was added.

Dhestroyer 01-10-2009 10:54 PM

yeah i realized that and edited it out ... Thanks

What was interesting is the screenies I took while aboard the ship the damage indicator - it shows that the hull on the left side as damaged (half hull). But the meter below it was showing full hull.

I can understand this, but the ship was open to public, so anyone could take the wheel. Something that has happened to me on my ship when trying to get a friend of a friend aboard and I open the ship. Sometimes a person not crewed will come aboard and grab my wheel while we are repairing.

Edward Edgemenace 01-10-2009 11:30 PM

The three arcs around the thing that looks like the burn on old my shirt from an iron, represents the "outer hull" while the health meter bar to the right of that represent the "inner hull."

One false theory someone was throwing about recently, was that TAKE COVER protects the right portion, but not the left. That notion however, is completely false, in that neither portion was taking any damage during this particular take cover glitch. Nor were sail points affected...hitting the masts left it unchanged. Apparently all the damage it took, occurred before it was glitched. (Man, there must be a dozen separate glitches related to take cover, now. That, besides the fact that it has never worked in any manner close to what it says it is doing.)

Thanks for clarifying that and adding what you know about that particular situation.

Solomon Redrage 01-11-2009 02:23 AM

my opinion is that if anyone is willing to open up their ship and allow people on in order to fraud other svs players of bounty, then its a glitch being misused for personal gain. oh well, you cant take it with you, and this game isnt real life.. so i guess, in the long run.. it doesnt really matter.

Your Gladiator 01-11-2009 07:25 PM

the Captian who done that is a cheater who cant svs without glitching some people dont take this game as fun and it is JUST A GAME NOT A PERSONS LIFE!

EXACTLY!!!!!
The cheater is only cheating him/her self. Me I know who the 'regular' glitchers/cheaters are. I either choose to not play with them by going to a different server or not engaging their ships, or ... I engage them with full knowledge that I may sink, but it is oh soooooo sweet when they are the ones sunk after all their efforts. hehe

Okay another thing about this invincibility glitch thing that the peeps are doing. I have noticed that when I svs and 9 times out of 10 I am on cannon and I attack a ship that is using this invincibility that I become glitched. What I mean by this is weird things start to happen like I suddenly have no controls (can't choose thunder, fire, etc.), I lose the green circle to get back on cannon, can't repair, and like last nite when I would tp off to get more ammo I couldn't get back onboard the ship. The screen would come up, stay up and I would have to close out and relog back on in order to get back onboard. And yes, I turned in a bug report and their conclusion is that it is my video card. Okay I get that but I update frequently because of this game. But these weird things only happen when I svs. I mean one time we sunk and the GM and I both ended up in the crow's nest sideways looking down at our ship. Yeah at the time it was kind of funny but annoying at the same time. So when you other players use this glitch it not only affects other players playing honestly but you also glitch the other players as well. I am to the point where I don't want to svs anymore and honestly I like to do it. It is the only real challenge in the whole game or at least it is for me since mastering my pirate. Thanks for letting me vent a tad. Okay more than a tad, lol! Kani of Spartan Ellite

greatertater 01-14-2009 07:28 PM

With four master pirates as a fifth on the way

I STILL never SvS due to all the glitches that create an unfair environment to play in. This and the vet field at KH are the two most likely places to get into a match with fellow pirates imo.

mlratto 01-14-2009 11:36 PM

Hey Sven, You know I will play sitting duck for ya at any time. I bet Piper would too.

ahhhhhh, thanks you guys. you are the perfect wenches!

I'm kinda leaving those SvS quests open for a couple of reasons.

1. i really do want to finish is the way it was intended.
2. i'm kinda waiting to see if they fix the bugs with SvS...so i can finish it the way it was intended
3. i don't want to have the same situation that piper had where she is almost at 40, all weapons mastered, all quests completed but not quite at 40...so i'm leaving myself some wiggle room by leaving the quest open

but ya never know...at the lightning speed that big D fixes things i just may have to take you up on your offer!
