Far away enemy?

I was shooting at a dread far off in front of my ship.
It started firing broadsides but it appeared to be way far off and it still was causing damage.
That made the second time this has happened to me.
The first time I sank because I couldn't figure what was shooting at me until it was too late.

Has this happened to any of you?

I have been hit by invisable ships before. Also one time, I was sailing, not a ship was around...wasn't being damaged either...all of a sudden my ships just Sinks!

Yeah, the problem I notice lately is that some ships can fire at you from further distances than you can broadside them. Bad bad!!

A bit off topic, but ON topic for sailing - we had one heck of a sailing night last night - Death Omens, Bohemiaths, Juggys, you name it, they were out there! We had a Death Omen RIGHT off of PDF - literally, before I got on the wheel, there it was...

Broadsides dont shoot very far! Even if it was far off some enemys have different advantages. Was it a higher lvl ship than you? Because they may have like connon advantages. Or maybe it was a different skill. And have you ever been just sailing along and just die?

Liz, looking at that screenie, the Dread was not that far from you, you were very much in range of its broadsides. There were some changes to the compass with the last update, so to get a better feel of how close you are to another ship; Zoom the camera out all the way using the mouse wheel then click the plus (+) sign once. The ships around you will be better represented on the compass.

Hmm I didn't think about that.
If it happens again ill try working with it.
It just seemed very strange, when it was firing it looked like the broadsides where not hitting me and just going into the water.

I have a question, did you see a big red ball with 2 smaller fireballs falling into the water?
If so, it could have been the following ships that sunk you
French/Spanish Cerberus
EITC Corsair
EITC Behemoth, not Bohemiath
EITC Juggernaut
And Dreadnoughts are pretty powerful ships, and they are Rapid-Fire as well,
How do i post a Screenshot so i can show a pic of a Dreadnought doing the Rapid-Fire thing?

Oh and, theres a thing that rarely happens when a ship appears invisible, but its Nametag is there, you can also see the ship's waves, if you DO get close enough, they will engage...
To fix this, just leave the wheel, and then they reappear
If they are invisible, they will shoot, but you wont see cannons, or animations, unless its thunder, fury, or explosive

the thing is, if the ship is in its invisible glitch, you cant fire at it unless you leave the wheel
