Is "Scorch" glitched?

Yes a DD has to srtike the target to kill it. (or so I think)

But, Scorch is not useless and it does damage over time and plus your other attacks it could do a great deal of damage so its good to have some skills in it.

Damage over time can very slowly kill targets over time, but with the way you have it set, yea it should kill an enemy over time. Direct damage just does it a lot quicker ;).

I've noticed that my pirate never appears to die from simply being poisoned, nor does my ship sink from simply being on fire.

I have fled both my pirate and my ship, while poisoned or on fire, and still survived with 1 health point many times. I dont think DoT weapons will take that last 1 HP unless it does so on the initial attack.

Edit: Its a great attack for leveling, good reps for low damage.

I originally got it for Eliza, but found that it wasn't that useful - particularly if you're fighting groups, etc. and need quick damage done. Retrained and dumped it.

scorch and poisons are good for when leveling against boss enemies. They help to counteract the bosses ability to heal very quickly.

By counteracting the heal ability you can take your time and attack the boss with weak attacks and take your time killing it so that you gain rep for multiple weapons.

When attacking a boss I try to get 120 rep per weapon (with 1 crew) I can sometimes get as high as 600 plus rep per boss kill by rotating weapons.

plain and simple the more times you hit the enemy the more rep you get so weak attacks net a lot more rep.
