Avatars

I have my avatar as a moving turkey.
When i put in anything else it wont change.
What is going wrong?

Your Avatar is an Animated GIF (that is a graphic which is actually several pictures layered on top of each other). Its design is for Web Pages - so if you put it in a Document for example (which does not understands animated GIF code) you only get the first image of the layer.

Sounds like a bug with your avatar not registering the change. Try this.
  1. Go to "UserCP"
  2. Select "Edit Your Avatar"
  3. You should see your avatar, and beside that an option that says "Do not use an avatar." Select that option then scroll down and click the Save Changes button.
  4. Make sure it has removed the avatar from the database, then attempt to upload your new avatar via the "Browse" option. Upload by URL does not work due to a vB error.

By selecting "Do not use an avatar" first, you are erasing all existence of your account having an avatar selected in the database. This allows the server to easily reckognize that you are adding a new avatar and should remove any issues of the server ignoring the request.

I have a avatar.
Tried what jack said.
Is it that it wont register it?
I can try a regular avatar and it still wont change.

Try clearing your cookies and then uploading an avatar. Also, what format is the avatar saved in? The site only accepts .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, and .png files if I remember correctly, but you would receive an error if this was the case.

If everything above checks out and you have errors after refreshing your cookies, PM me and I'll look into removing the avatar so you can change it.

It is a .gif
Shall try deleting everything from internet and restarting.

Could it be possible for a Mod to delete a avatar?
I can't get it off unless i hide it.

EDIT: WHAT IS MY AVATAR AS OF RIGHT NOW???

I see a turkey with its head bobbing back and forth...

Hope that helps!

Aaron McEagle 11-27-2009 02:11 AM

Sadly it doesnt.:psmiley27:
That was the avatar i have had for about a month.
Im trying to change it to something new.

Sarah 11-27-2009 02:13 AM

Perhaps it's the size of the new avi you are trying to load? It can't be more than 64x64. Are there any messages popping up when you try the upload?

Andrew 11-27-2009 02:16 AM

Your avatar appears fine for me. Try clearing your browsers cookies, that should fix the problem.

Clear your browsers cookies via Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Internet Options

Under Browsing History click the Delete button.

Check everything you please.

Click Delete.

Restart your browser, and that should fix it. If that doesn't work, then I dunno, your avatar appears fine for me.

Aaron McEagle 11-27-2009 02:17 AM

I have put the moving avatar to the side.
I've tried multiple avatars that i got and none work.
Steps
1. Browse and find it
2. Click upload
3. Upload complete

EDIT: Avatar is not supposed to be a turkey. I put it as a regular non moving eagle. I have cleared internet already.
EDIT: When showing what your avatar looks like after uploading it shows my avatar i uploaded. Not on posts or any thing else will it show. It is supposed to be a green eagle for now.

Andrew, he can see the avatar, its a matter of him trying to CHANGE it, and its not changing.

Aaron, what are the dimensions of the GIF image you want to use?
Required: 64x64 (or smaller)

Second, and this is often an issue with GIF images...
What is the FILE size of the GIF image?
Required: 87.9 KB (or less)

Any bigger dimension wise, or file size wise, and your new uploaded avatar will be rejected. But you should get a message indicating this, if thats the case.

Aaron McEagle 11-27-2009 02:23 AM

My moving avatar is 6kb
The one im testing that doesn't move is only 3kb no luck...

I think I might have figured it out.. 2 things

Might you be uploading your eagle pic to your profile image?
I see the eagle picture there.
If that is NOT the case, and its the same image you want as an avatar, that image is too large dimension wise to be an avatar, it is 116x102

Otherwise, will investigate further.

Jack I 11-27-2009 02:28 AM

I physically removed your avatar for you. Try uploading the new image now. If it doesn't work, upload the image to the gallery and give me the link to it, I will try to get it fixed for you.
