display driver

my display driver will stop working close the game then be just fine... it happens more when sailing. i want this to stop! i have vista and i have no clue how to even find out what my graphics card is. can you help?

Unless it is a bug, I just use the tip provided in the game: "If you've been playing for longer than 2 hours, pershaps it is time to take a break."

This allows my system to clear out any memory leaks and allows my graphics card to cool down a bit (I am running on a low-end system).

Everything else I send as a bug report with screenshots.

The only thing I need help with at the moment: What are the winning numbers for the next lottery?! -)

turning the game off for a bit has nothing to do w/it. It will happen just after I log on sometimes. I even updated the software for my display driver...this is getting annoying....

[QUOTE=quill_fire;16378]turning the game off for a bit has nothing to do w/it. [QUOTE]

This is easy enough to prove:

CTRL + ALT + DELETE
Select Windows Task Manager (depends on which verion of Windows you're running)
Select the Performance tab

Take note of the CPU usage & Physical Memory while running normal programs
Then take note of it when you start up the pirates application
Then take note of 2 it hours later

Guarenteed, there is a significant memory leak the longer you run this application. That proves true for a number of programs that you run - however it's more succeptible to causing "lag" because of the way the game is coded. It's extremely hard to diagnose exactaly what part of the game causes this memory leak - worse than searching for a needle in a haystack.

If I open the "options" window (where you can adjust the screen size, window size, audio, etc...I will get a weird screen resolution afterwards.
My full screen stays and the overall view looks the same, but the icons, controls, chat window, chat text, etc all go very large, like a lower resolution and barely fit on the screen.
I have to completely "log out" and log back in to fix it.
(I have tried readjusting and trying different res, etc)

Mysterious Problem

POTC works on only one of my four computers. All are Dell. The one that it works on is the oldest. All are hardwired with Cat 5e cable to a home network. None are wireless. The one that works is not the main computer for the home network.

Here are the specs for the one we CAN play on.

Dell Dimension 8300
Windows XP SP2
Processor - 3ghz Intel Pentium 4
Graphics Card - Radeon 9800 128mb
Ram - 1 gig
Hard drive - 150gig (138gig free)
All Drivers are up to date per Driver Detective

Here is the specs for the three that Crash as soon as you click on "Play".

Dell Dimension 9100
Window XP Sp2
Processor - 3.5ghz Intel Pentium 4
Graphics Card - Nvidia 6800 256mb
Ram 1 to 1.5 gig
Hard drives - All over 150 with at least 125gig free
All Drivers are up to date per Driver Detective.

I have changed Modems and Routers, but nothing helps. The answer has to be simple but POTC support hasn't got a clue. All they keep saying is it has to be my ISP. I told them if one runs, they all should run. I even by-passed the router and that didn't work either.
HELP!!!!!

:vhuh:

Seems nobody is really getting helped here, lol. For the person with the lag problems, set all Graphics options to low and set Memory Conservation to "Default". If this does not make it run fast enough, turn off the Music of the game. Gl.
