The 5 rules of EXP!

I'll give you my tip of leveling fast. You just need to know how the exp system really works.

Five things to know:

1. Level: The level color will determine how much more exp you will get from the enemy. (Grey gives so little, Red gives so much)

2. Crew: Being a crew member gives you 10% more of the current exp you're getting.

3. Skills/ammo: The higher the level of a skill is, the more exp you get when you use it. (For example, taunt gives more exp than brawl, and steel shot gives more exp than lead shot)

4. Combos: The higher the combo, the more exp it will give you. (Try this: use this in a row: use the 5 combos of the cutlass, then use sword storm after that to get a 12 hit combo)

5. Number of hits: The more hits you give to an enemy, the more exp you get. Hitting an enemy is like giving you more points. How many points you get by hitting the enemy depends on 3. and 4. Getting better combos builds up higher points, as better skills and ammos give more exp (The ones more to the right of your skill menu)

Don't forget, the max exp you can get on a certain weapon from an enemy is 100. For crews, the max is 110.

Bit o info; 5 makes 3 & 4 null.

You will get fewer points for using a combo on say the sword, than you will for hacking them constantly.
(hack is the base move for the sword)

You will get fewer points from strengthening your bullets than the basic shot. (lead)
Steel shot takes off more health from the enemy, requiring fewer bullets to defeat it, less points are awarded.

Adding skill points to any attack will strengthen it and fewer attacks will be needed to defeat the enemy. You will not get more points for it.

To level, I use the attacks that do the least damage to get the big reps. I think I've leveled pretty decently :)

I think the big thing is to not strenthen your attacks if you just want to level. I have several weapons with unused skill points. When I get to lvl25, I'll apply the skill points then. Waiting also gives me a better idea where I might want to strenthen.

Yep, never ever put points into the first basic attack on any weapon. You can increase your EXP a bit by spamming the 1st move over and over.

It's not all about number of hits. Better skills and ammos give more points.

I noticed you get more rep (exp) when using a lower skill that means that you need more hits to kill an enemy.

For example working my gun. First i used lead shot all the time and it gave me like 45 rep for a level 30 grenadier.
Now i use 15 steel (does very very little damage to undead) and the rest i use silver shot. It gives me 100 rep for every single raider or grenadier killed. Even works on level 28 gypsy. (thx to a friend for this great advice)
I only need to find the perfect way for my voodoo staff. Using soul flay and blast takes forever. I anybody has any tips for that, i'm glad to listen.

I find how they award xp rather odd. I'd prefer just a set amount based on the creature lvl vs your level. It's odd they make you want to NOT do more damage per attack. I just can't make myself do just the simple attack over and over.

I'm not in a big hurry to hit lvl 40 anyway since then I'll have nothing to do.

Depending on your level, I leveled my staff by calling a lot of high levels to me and used wither on them. You get a lot of rep only because you're killing a bunch at one time.

Ah, my friend does the exact same thing. She draws the higher level enemies torwards her, about 5 or 6 at a time and then uses wither. She levels great, especially for level 33.

Speedway Master 01-09-2008 09:49 PM

Try using weak high level skills to hit enemies many times. That's one of the points I was trying to give out.

Jack Seawalker 02-18-2008 07:49 PM

hint: if you are attacking with voodoo make sure you max attaune and just use a low lvl poke on a whole bunch of high lvls. make sure you have a friend thats in a crew with you and healing you constantly.

Angel 02-18-2008 09:01 PM

For Staff to lvl, the #2 shot gives better reps. If you have a healer get a pack or go play with stumps. I lvld to 21 in 2 days using this or teh officers on kings.

CaptainMonkeys 02-18-2008 10:15 PM

I was in the PR fort, and was not part of a crew. I took on a level 30 Macenery and killed it(Voodoo Doll,of course.)

I got 110 rep.

Angel 02-19-2008 01:33 AM

Chances are you were in a crew, switched servers and locked in one although it was saying you werent on the chat.
