Is membership worth it ? (Need your Opinions)

I am coming back to Pirates after a little over a year.
I am not sure if I should buy a membership or not.
I don't like spending my money, but honestly if Pirates is worth it again.. then I just might.
What do you think about Pirates ?
Do you think it would be worth it to buy a membership ?
Btw. Do they still have 3 month memberships in game cards, or did they get rid of those ?
Considering.. I get a little lag here and there, especially during invasions.. it makes it hard to fight.. I'm not sure if I would be able to fight the lag.
So that is another thing why I'm hesitant on buying a membership.
It doesn't always work, smoothly, for me.
I'm afraid I might get bored too, but I know there will probably be things I can do to keep myself active, lol.
I am asking for your opinions because I don't have much experience with pirates.
I've only bought a membership once actually.. xD

Jack Chainward 05-22-2011 02:16 PM

Uh, if your going to do it just get a 1 month, if you stick to it then go get the 3 month (yes they are available to my knowledge.)

My opinions on getting it really depend on your level. If you have some free weapons that you can still level up, I would level those up until you only get 1 rep, this way your playing and you can tell whether you want to keep playing without paying.

Im currently NOT a member but I'm in the same predicament you're, I am not really sure if I will stay put on the game, because quite frankly I change what I play more than I change my underwear. Whatever your choice may be have fun!

I guess it really depends on the individual whether one feels that it is worth paying for a membership. You can always try it for a month like Jack said, then go from there. I have been playing for over 3 years minus some time-off for real life. Never seem to get bored, myself, but I enjoy the community & the interaction with my pirate friends. If I am not mistaken the first month of membership is almost half of the regular monthly membership, but that could have changed recently-idk

You can always play as a Basic Member. Then if you decide you want to upgrade or downgrade you can still play. The game cards are out there somewhere depending on your local stores.

There's probably going to be a free Unlimited Weekend soon, so you could wait till then if you can't decide.

Just gonna go out on a limb and say, no major updates have been added in teh past year. They have added a lot of hype over things such as the Queen Anne's Revenge and Infamy, but they toot their horn a little much. the way I see it the game is dated. The Kraken will probably not be coming around unless they remake the game with a new engine from the ground up, and many people are just struggling to find anything to do, because the game has no true challenges for mastered pirates or pirates who have completed quests and do not care to master. Use your own discretion, but if you ask me they have only moved backwards by adding mini games when they could have added more weapons.

Um, you said no major updates in the past year? I think Raven's Cove quest is a major update, with a new island too. If you think that's not a major update, then what is your definition of one, 5 new islands and private lairs? That would be expecting way too much.

And adding more weapons? They just added over 200 weapons last year, there is a ton of weapons.

So Disney has done a great job in the past year with adding new things, and I recommend you getting unlimited access.

Been over a year since disney added weapons rather than the cursed junk. Honestly Ravens cove is nothing big either. You have a bunch of ghosts flying around that can kill you in one hit, or other ghosts who are nothing special. The addition of these enemies added nothing interesting for me. Pirates downgraded with this move as well because they may believe Foulberto is something people actually think is a challenge. Sure he is fun to fight for the first three times, but you have no need for daggers if you have teh Dagger of the Dark Idol, the Seven Seas Dagger, and the Mercer's blade's/Silver Freeze. Indeed I have been playing, do I think the quest was a good addition? Yes, but it honestly took me about 2 hours to complete on day one. Not saying the whole island is a fail because you can get some powerful weapons there if it's your savvy, but I would prefer sailing to Tormenta.

A whole new island and a quest is a big update, and really big compared to anything else Disney has given us. And besides, no one can ever be happy, if they release something new, after a few months everyone will be bored and be complaining about not getting anything.

Hehe, I don't need the cursed weapons, and honestly after that update I felt if they had made potion spells into weapons with would have been more interesting. What they need is indeed a Pirate cove with customization options. this would give people reason to look up loot, and hopefully showcase their weapons/ have a place to store weapons and clothing. Only this would suffice for me because it is so needed.

Firstly, not everyone goes to Smasho and gets Silver Freeze within the hour . ;)
Plus, can't you wait 1 WHOLE year until you start complaining???? Its been 366 days out, and your already complaining. I'm sick and tired of people complaining about stuff after just a year. Don't get me wrong, I get bored sometimes, but when people complain just a year after an update, it kinda throws me off. They do the best they can, ok? Ok. Now about challenges. If it's too easy, play a "certain way". Instead of using that tonic, try to switch to blunder to win. Before you hop on that war galleon with rank 5 broadsides and and round shot boost +3 with a full crew of infinite rank 7 fury to do a fleet, try to do a fleet with a light sloop. Why loot for a legendary then stop, when you could aim for 'em all? (I know what your thinking, but I mean don't just go " meh, I already have one..." and just complain.

Thank you for your opinions everyone, so far.
I've read them all, interesting things. xD
I have somehow figured out how to play Pirates on my Firefox.
It does have a little lag, but so far it's working good.
I am playing as a basic member for now.. and still deciding what I should do here.
But, if I am going to get a membership I was thinking in like the next few weeks.
I see they have made some changes, nothing huge to me though.
Right now I think it's a fun game, and I like the community.
But.. I'm realizing I need to get more friends though, lol.
We'll see how everything goes. xD

Hehe, you don't realize my style for everything. I use every type of weapon, and still think of ways they could have done better. Muskets would have been a great addition years ago, I asked for them and skeleton enemies on ships you could board way back when. Reason being you used to be able to shoot enemies from across decks. But they simply moved backwards with those enemies, and they spawn in when your crew boards. Not only that, but they disappear into the panels, and there is a huge mess.

What you say about the weapons is true, I would like all of the legendaries, but why have legendaries with horrible abilities if there is nowhere to put them. Sure you can throw away all of your good weapons just to keep the things, but why would you? It all boils down to what abilities you think are not complete bull.

Still I can use my rusty cutlass and wipe out crews on the Queen Anne's Revenge. Do you really think I haven't played it a few more times? It was small, and I feel having Blackbeard on his own ship would make a lick of more since. Not to mention the skins for the zombies look nothing like in the movie, and are also just our PvP clones.

You can butter your cake as much as you want, but I'm trying to save this person some money. You should know well that the updates this past year excluding Ravens have been rather sad. Raven's is saved by Legendary Blades and cursed weapons, but when it boils down to it, Foulberto could have dropped weapons other than daggers, and we all know that a Boss in Tormenta would be much more interesting.

Yes, If you enjoy pirates now as a basic member you need to upgrade. It is my understanding that our beloved Pirates Online Staff is running very low on income. If you want to see updates or even see this game in a year or so. Then yes you should buy unlimited access ;) Besides basic is not near as much fun as unlimited.

And yet you still play :)
