Proper Procedure?
After reading the etiquette thread, I thought I'd ask this question.
I'm still new to crewing, and something happened where I wasn't sure how to procede. After boarding a vessel, our ship's captain was killed in battle, leaving just 3 of us aboard. I checked the wheel, and we were in a port ready to anchor. I left the wheel, figuring the captain/owner would tele back to us from jail. Meanwhile, this low level guy grabs the wheel and starts sailing the ship. The rest of us couldn't bump him off the wheel. The owner never came back while this guy sailed us to Tortuga in a badly damaged ship that wasn't his and anchored. So, when something like this happens, should one wait for the owner to come back, or anchor the ship as soon as possible? My instinct is to wait or at least head to safety then wait. |
IMO... I'd wait a few minutes and then port the ship. Repairing the War Galleon when it sinks is 153 gold.... not a cheap thing.. hehehe...
I think its the right thing to do. |
Have someone close to the ships owner take the wheel or you if you feel responsible enough. Take the wheel and get the ship out of harms way. If the captian dont come back then port. Personal experience :)
|
If it's a crew of people that you know, I would wait for the captn like the others said. I would let the capt know that you're waiting for a few.
But if it's a random crew, might be best to just port it. Then I would let the captn know that we ported the ship to keep her out of harm :) |
I usually port, since i sail with only 3 close friends, we use each others ships when one is damaged, so they know i get booted alot and vice versa, so we make port, since we usually have friends of friends, and guild members, their friends of theirs, often i have NO clue who all these people are on my ship but a select few, amazes me still to have someone tp to me, and all of a sudden that crew number going up because he has friends ALSO tping to HIM..4..5..6..7..8..omg stop.
so if they can get to the wheel first, they get us to port, as otherwise its usually someone i dont know who doesnt care, since they dont have to pay they just drive headlong into a pack of reapers or whatnot firing like mad thinking my ship aint gonna sink, or the lower level guys who are like "omg free warship" soon as they see the wheel free, understandable, to want to steer one, especially free members..but still not cool at all..its someones property, respect it, dont leave it at the bottom of the sea. What i want to know though..is say a captain or crewmate is helping get a haul, were full on cargo, they get booted offline/crash. If they happen to get back on board before we port..do they share in the haul? as im not sure how it works, do u have to participate to get a full share? or just be on board? or will they get nothing? |
In my experience, if you come on to a ship that already has some cargo and you port you don't get anything.
With this in mind, when you crash / lag out / whatever and log back in it -probably- resets your standing with the ship that you were on and then you can only claim what you shoot after logging back in. |
Thanks everyone.
Looks to be pretty much the way I thought. The guy that took over the ship got blasted by me and the other person that was there, telling him how rude it was and everything. He did end up apologizing, at least... |
at least he apolagized but still that was very rude... thats why when this happens if i know the capn well i just take the wheel and sit there and wait 10 minutes if not ill dock (i take the wheel mainly so no one hijacks the ship and sinks it O_o

Thanks william,
would this prove true as well for the case in point of the original poster? Since the captain didnt go offline, but was simply killed (but leaves the ship either way, and since tping back on..he technically hasnt killed anything since being on board, but its still his ship) Thats my main question now, as Im wondering if its worth it to wait, since i usually wait at a port if we are full and its not my ship, so he can tp back on and get his share. But will he get it? and will he also get a share if hes simply a crew member who got killed and tps back but its MY ship? because as it is now, im simply waiting till all dead crew/captain get back till we port, but sometimes they dont. so am i leaving them out if i dock or will it make no diff even if they did get back? |
I quite often get booted whilst on board and I'd like my ship to be used by whoever's onboard. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford 2 of the big ships and if my connection breaks I'd like all those on board to have a good go with it.
Hey ho its only a few bob to get it repaired. The thing that REALLY annoys me is when i've parked my ship and am firing the top cannon with others onboard, one of their friends decides to pop aboard, and what's the first thing they do............ take the wheel without asking!!!!!! Oooooh that is a heinous crime, one which really makes the blood boil. They think just cuz there's no one on the wheel it's theirs for the taking. Don't they realise that a stopped ship is easier to fire from !?!?!? |
If it isnt yours - doc it :)
When I captain a ship I always appoint one member of crew to be 'first mate' so if I get killed or need supplies I can depend on that person to take care of the ship while I am gone.
In your case though, if the captain doesnt appoint a mate, then just doc the ship - it isn't yours to sail and anyone whoi sails her is a thief - not a pirate :) In that case, it is always better to doc - I would rather come back to a good ship and sail again then to come back to some some sunken ship. Thats just IMO :) And Skull ^ - TOTALLY AGREE - anyone who comes aboard and just takes the wheel isnt even a thief... just a weasel!!! |

Haya,
Just to let you know I have a group of friends that I play with alot. I have gone linkdead after getting 10/12 loot and logged back on rejoined the crew ported back to the ship and with a full loot 2 of witch I was not present for docked. This has happened more then once and lets just say it was a 400 gold haul. I would ask how much the regular crew got and theirs would be 400, mine because I was there for 10 of the 12 i would get about 300-340. Jaco Lan'Heue THE SHOWOFFS |
