Bigger Ships Give Less Treasure!

Pretty much all I do in this game is sailing and I've noticed something. I was sailing in my war sloop and I found a spot where a flagship spawns. I disabled and boarded that flagship about 50 times and every run I'd end up with 3-4 royal chests (out of 9 cargo space).
Then I went and bought a war galleon and sunk the same ship like 20 more times, and I'm getting zero or just one royal chest per run (out of 16 cargo space). I went back and sunk the ship a few times in a light galleon and got like 2-3 royals per run (out of 7 cargo).

Did I mention that I have 5 points in treasure sense? The programmers made it so that when you have a big war ship, your chances of getting royal chests is greatly reduced!

I don't know if this applies to the standard galleon or frigate as well. It might.

OK to be fair, did you switch servers at any time? Secondly did someone else happen to also hit the same target? I've noticed those factors are something that affects the loot.

I don't see how that would affect it...but no. I always have it set to join a random server and this test was over the course of about a week (so I used probably at least 7 different servers). Nobody else hit the boats I tested.

Also, half the time I had a crew on board and half the time I did not and there was no difference that way either.

I've found loot to be pretty random in general. I've sailed alone a lot and on one run I'll get 1000, the next, 300 (and I do have max treasure sense).

I'd really like to see that fixed. Personally, I think light ships should give mostly cargo crates, standard ships should give mostly treasure chests, and war ships should give mostly royals. I picture bell curves that also factor in the level of the ship.
Also, it'd be nice to see the number of items dropped be at least somewhat based on the size of the ship (one cargo crate from a Monarch, anyone? LoL).

I'd also love to be able to ditch lousy cargo (we can't even see what we got until we get in let alone drop it...lame...).

ETA: Imagine if you ditched a cargo crate and it was left floating there for someone else to claim (What if they had to grapple it? LoL)... :)

Wow - deja-veu... I just posted an answer to a question in the General Forum on this same thing...

I noitce when I use my War Gal - I get less RC's then when I use my War Frig - its like the game knows I'm trying to take more cargo is it rewards less. :D I was getting 6-8 RC's (out of 12) for the Frigate - but only 3-4 for the Gal (out of 16)??? Though I wouldn't think the ship type would make any diff - hey - this is POTCO, where making your weapons stronger actualy weakens you in REP so no surprise that a Larger Cargo Ship gets less treasure... :)

Makes me want to buy a light sloop and go sink the Juggernaut to see what happens.

I primarily sail my War Galleon. I have not noticed any reduction or change in plunder rewarded. As someone else mentioned, it appears random.

I have hit the same ship over and over and over and received different amounts of plunder, different level/number of enemies on board, etc. If I have made any observation, it seems to me the harder the ship is to take, the more plunder that appears to be rewarded (similar to reps).

The reason why I ask on the servers is I was told there are only a certain amount of Royals per server. Not sayin theres 5k royals alloted per server, but once in a while you get the Royal Explosion and it seems like every ship you sink has royals on it. Thats what we call "Stocking the server". I can do a test on it against the colossous later. Same server, same ship, using all 3 war ships.

AS for treasure sence, Ive heard rumors on that as well. The last cannoneer to shoot the ship, it goes by them, or the capt if they used broadsides? Once again, not sure but it did seem like we got better loot when we have alot of higher lvl pirates with max treasure as crew mates. Also if you have 2 ships goin after the same ship (ie. Juggs), one ship may get royals, the other would get crates....tested personally.

OK I ran the test on colossous.....As promised......

Now keep in mind that this was all on the exact same server hittin the Colossous flag, using Lightning to take the colossous down each time, and Grapeshot on the capt. The only variation was the ship I used.

I think it has more to do with the LEVEL of the ship your attacking then the type of ship your sailing. Thats actually one of the in game hints, the hire the level the better the treasure

Angel 05-22-2008 03:38 AM

Well, mine were all lvl 35 & 36 Colossous.....

if thats true, then why do I often get three crates of sinky cotton off a juggernaut.

Angel 05-22-2008 09:14 PM

Ive noticed Juggs dont do very well for loot. He is more of a reps ship. As with the Warlord off anvil sometimes.
