game is continuously lagging, but i have an excellent computer

as it says in the title i have a pretty modern computer but the game is lagging for me, i just installed it 2 days ago and it does fine when no actual players are around but once i go near even 2 or 3 people it starts lagging bad and is barely playable. does anyone know what the problem is? and how i can fix it?

Have you turned all the graphics setting to their lowest settings to see if it's related to your video card performance?

I found that on one of my computers the game lags horribly when there are other players nearby, even though it exceeds the recommended requirements. It's a pretty good machine but the one weak point it has is a mediocre video card. I wound up buying a new computer that plays the game perfectly and thus abandoned the idea of upgrading the video card on the old one.

Somewhere in the configuration, there's a "Memory Conservation" setting. Make sure it's set to Default instead of Aggressive.

Whats ur PC settings? Also dont run any other program while pirates is running. I have a Gamer pc and I still lag when I run other stuff. Best thing I can say and yes it does help, send a bug report in with ur pirates log .txt. files and then jump on live support. THye get back to you with what you need to do. Most of the times its "update the video driver".

i have a Geforce 7150 in my laptop, and although it does share memory with the HD, it should still play this game flawlessly, also I don't have anything on in the background and every setting is on its lowest

do ye run vista is the holy question?

indeedturtle 06-16-2008 12:24 AM

yes, i got vista

I run Vista on my Samsung laptop. 128mb dedicated graphics. Latest drivers, but if I have a problem and send a report I always get told to update my drivers. Even if it was nothing to do with graphics.

I only have lag when the servers are busy (like this weekend). My graphics settings are high. Usually I just change to a quiet server and things run fine again.

The graphics card is the most important thing for this game, and at least 2gb RAM. Get a card with at least 128mb dedicated Graphic RAM and you should be ok.

Laptop? There's part of the problem.

Not sure what you mean by this, but if you mean that graphics card uses system RAM instead of having dedicated RAM, then that's the other part of the problem.

You may think that it "should play the game flawlessly", but it won't. Not with that kind of setup. There are some things that notebooks just won't do as well as a desktop. Graphics-intensive games are one of them. It's one of the compromises they made in the design.

Since you're on a notebook, your upgrade options are limited. You might try getting more RAM. The 2G that was suggested would be great.

Also, try setting all the graphics options to their minimum settings. Turn off the music. Make sure memory conservation is "default" instead of "aggressive". Defrag the hard drive.

And maybe even get rid of Vista and go back to XP.

I get the same problem sometimes...

Vista 32-bit
AMD X2 6000+
4 GB RAM
Geforce 8800GT 512MB
6Mbit DSL line

I have to turnthe bulk of my video settings down to LOW to play at a decent framerate. Disney doesn't really care as far as I can tell....

I always run my games on my laptop. Its all about build quality. Never go for a shared RAM graphics cards. Complete waste of time.

CPU power is fairly important, but RAM and a REALLY good graphics card are a must.

If you are looking at a laptop that can play pirates with not many problems (but who has no problems with this game lol) I can heartily recommend the Samsung R70

And I run Vista on it ;P

You can still get it. Despite what Microsoft wants, the Vista acceptance rate has been pretty low.

Personally, they will get my XP CD when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Lol, they will have to do the same with my XP cd!

Also, not all laptops are bad. Mine (HP Pavillion brand) runs pirates online great, only issues I have with pirates relates to my internet service and my laptop can't be blamed for that :p. It's specs are 128mb video card, 1gb ram, 2.0 ghz processor, and Windows XP and it runs great (on medium video/performance settings even, not low).
