Must on right and left broadsides.
ONLY ONE! On Full sail come about and ram speed. No point in putting any more. MUST 5 on Windcatcher 5 on TS only if you plan to help out your fellow lower pirates. I havent diciided to do with the rest of the points. |
(on my level 33 pirate...)
Sailing lvl: 18 Left side: 5/5 Right side: 5/5 Fullsail: 1/5 Come about: 1/5 Open fire:1/5 (even with 1 skill point has DOUBLED effectiveness of my broadside) Ramming speed 1/5 I like investing in passive skills, that assist me all the time.. Windcatcher: 2/5 Tacking: 1/5 TreasureSense: 0/5 - Gold's easy to get when level 30+, only good for short term. Taskmaster: 2/5 |

After reading this post I have a good idea of what I'm going to be sinking my points into but I can't decide what to max and what not to. Here is a rough draft with questions to follow:
5/5 Left Broadside 5/5 Right Broadside 1/5 Full Sail 1/5 Come About */5 Open Fire 1/5 Ramming Speed */5 Take Cover */5 Windcatcher */5 Tacking 0/5 Treasure Sense */5 Taskmaster 13/26 I'm not a fan of Treasure Sense. Seems like a good idea if you plan on helping out lowbies. Might be something I'll use on an alt but not on this character. All of the abilities with a */5 are ones that I'm not sure how many points I want to put in. Open Fire and Take Cover are either going to be 1/5 or 0/5 but I can't decide if I want both, one or the other, or none of them at all. After I can figure that out, I plan on dumping the remainding points into Windcatcher, Tacking and Taskmaster. Right now I already have 4 points in Windcatcher and 2 in Tacking. If I don't take either Open Fire or Take Cover it can be divided 5/4/4 or 5/5/3 into Windcatcher, Tacking and Taskmaster in any order. If I plan on taking one or both, then that would neglect two points from the 3 passives. If I can't max all three of the above passives, which should I neglect? Would 4/5 on both broadsides be another viable option? Thanks for any input. Edit: Incorrect math on skill points. |
Sailing level: 25
5/5 Left Broadside 5/5 Right Broadside 1/5 Full Sail 1/5 Come About */5 Open Fire 1/5 Ramming Speed 1/5 Take Cover 1/5 Windcatcher */5 Tacking 5/5 Treasure Sense 4/5 Taskmaster |

both broads----10 full sail ----------1 come about---- 1 open fire ------- 2 ramming---------2 take cover-------0 windcatcher-----2 tacking-----------1 treasure sense-5 might be wrong... i'll check and edit it in aswell as Ordo's |
I now have a million ideas of builds, all suited for specific moments. For me, the redistribution of spent points really solves any money problems I'd never yet faced, though it did introduce a fewof its own...

I have master sailing and now that I spend most of my sailing time Privateering, I kind of like this sailing build:
Left Broadside (1/5) Right Broadside (1/5) Full Sail (1/5) Come About (1/5) Open Fire (5/5) Ramming Speed (1/5) Take Cover (3/5) Windcatcher (4/5) Tacking (4/5) Treasure Sense (0/5) Taskmaster: (5/5) Total (26/26) Notes: I put 1 in full sail and ramming speed simply for a short burst of speed to break away from the pack if I get surrounded. I sometimes like come about when a war sloop is circling. I can sometime break away with it. Treasure sense seems wasted now that I have max gold and all the war ships. Most of the time when I am sailing I have a crew so I felt that broadsides were less important. I am kind of gimping myself in non PVP but since I don't care about sailing rep, I can always just hop off the wheel and nuke the enemy with my cannons! :newsmi4: This build changes the way you sail in PVP and even in PVE with a crew. I find myself trying harder to keep the ship angle as tight as I can so my crew can fire the cannons and I don't worry about having to line up my broadsides. If something sails broadside, well a little damage is better than nothing. My crew is going to sink it anyway. The only thing I am not sure on is how much windcatcher and tacking helps. Not sure if would help to take from those 2 skills and beef up broadsides or not. |
