Pulled Thread

There had been a thread going, dont know if anyone else saw it/read it, about "Mega-Noobs." It had been going since mid-Sept., and admins deicided to pull it from the forum. When asked why the thread had been removed, admin told me this:

"That thread has been removed from the forum. We don't allow
reads/posts that condone griefing ingame. Some of the posts
contained in the thread were giving the message that it was
okay to grief others."

Thank you Admins for the action that was taken (sort of). I understand why it got pulled but the thing was it was up for over a month b4 any action was taken. Not until about 4-5 Krewe mates posted and voiced their 2 cents, the thread got pulled. For those who dont know of the thread, it was a thread where peeps made fun/picked on noobs just bc they could. The point the Krewe was getting across pretty much was that at one point and time, WE ALL were noobs and didnt know what we were doing.

I feel the Krewe made such an impact (even made a certain pirate feel bad about earlier post) and posted enough to get the admins invovled enough to pull the thread. I just wished they would have left it up a little longer so everyone could see how certain PEOPLE here treat others in the game. Thank you Bossman for bringing it to the Krewe attention last night. Every point you made (as well as fellow Krewe mates that posted) hit the nail on the head.

People dont know of the sitution on the other end of the puter. They never know if the person be young, old, male, female, handicapped, or not. There is no reason what so ever to pick on a 'noob'. They are new to the game and need the help. We get lucky sometimes and actually get a ty for the help ( well, I do anyway). I am a Lvl 40 and I still have to ask for help. I am not ashamed to ask for help if I need it bc I know a have a great group (outstanding more like it) of pirates ready and able to help if asked.

A special ty to Samule for the assist last night. As Bart said b4, it's time we took this game back from the griefers (and noob-haters as I call them). It's time to get back to having fun and hanging out with friends/guild mates.

Great post Li! I didn't get to hear what Bart said last night being that I am on site early and am usually very tired by nitefall being in EST. But it is true that no one knows the drama taking place in peeps personal lives. The game is to relax and escape and have fun. Lizzy engages in POTCO for this very reason and I'm quite sure the multitude of pirates play the game for similar reasons. So pirate on everyone...enjoy the game...Becuz it is just that...a game! Ahoy mates and pass the Rum...

Being a moderator can sometimes be a tough road to hoe..

I remember the thread, and it was discussed at first amongst admins/mods. Unfortunately some subjects often ride a fine line.. and we try to let them continue until lines are crossed. Sometimes what one person takes offense to others do not. The reporting system is used to help us gauge this as we dont always know what strikes some as inappropriate vs others. Simply understanding what some members may be actually saying/meaning sometimes is often missed by staff.

I dont think it was a matter of "noob hating" as much as it was humorous about situations with new players, and with those that just act silly in the game. Once some posts were added somewhat disrupting the thread, it had to be removed.

lol.......dont mind if i share mine as well.......

Mama Hexgrin here,
I am certainly glad that the thread was pulled but I agree with Li. I wish it had remained long enough for other members to read the posts from last night and perhaps "see" the other side of the coin.

The "mega-noob" opinion was out there for over a month(?) but ours were there less than a day. So their opinion/humorous stories/methods for griefing had more airtime. I did not post my story to embarass previous posters but to shed light and try to foster more patience in them. I am trying to give the same benefit of doubt that I wish they would show others. I don't know what their ages or backgrounds are, so perhaps it could have been a great learning experience for everyone. But we shall never know.

What I do know is that Black Barts Krewe and its mission have made this game much more fun and that's what it's all about, aye? Long Live the Krewe!

I am just very disappointed in too many people to count right now.

AdmiralSavvy 10-29-2008 04:58 AM

Well, like I said before, I honestly don't know what in the world I was thinking with that post of mine...*feeling very ashamed*

I believe that everyone is just better off forgetting about the ones who may be a problem in game and just enjoy the time you play. The game is for fun, not for causing others problems anyways. People, save yourself a ban and just TP away should anyone give you problems.
If you ever see anyone walking by acting like that, just think to yourself "I was there too at one time."

If it wasn't a thread about "noob hating" then what was it???? Where is thhe humor if making new players feel bad??? If that is not griefing then what is it? We were all new once and we all ask for help. If someone does not like helping noobs then go some where else or maybe it is time to find a different game to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But hurt some ones feeling is not humorous or funny in anyway!!!!!!!!!!!

Li Wildtimbers 10-29-2008 06:01 PM

Guys, I wasnt trying to start WW3. All I was trying to do was comment on what was going on and stand up for the little people. And doing so, The Krewe gets punished for standing up for what WE THOUGHT was wrong. There is nothing funny about picking on people when they are new to the game. I find no humor in picking on "noobs." Picking on "noobs" is how this game got filled with griefers. People are complaining about all the griefers but yet they continue to pick on new players. HELLOOOOO!!!!!!! That is where the griefers come from (this is my opinion only, so dont get mad at me for voicing what I feel is wrong).

Zep, my question to you and to the Admins/Mods, is: Where is the HUMOR in picking on new players? I find no humor in it at all, hence the reason why I posted in the first place. The things that were being said/done was down right rude and hateful. And people wonder why they get banned from the game.

This is my opinion only, so again plz dont take offensive to what i am saying

Dr. Zeppers 10-29-2008 06:49 PM

I understand that senses of humor will vary. I for one laugh hard and long making jokes of myself when I was a noob in the game. I dont take offense to it in the least, even when im starting a new game, because everyone was new at some point, everyone makes the same mistakes.

Perhaps this perspective allows me to see the humor in it, however it does not mean that I condone mistreating new players, I hope this was not the impression I presented. One's sense of humor, does not necessarily reflect ones actions.

Had I been a 'noob' reading the thread, I would have laughed and told myself.. "remember not to do that!". I didnt see "bashing" really taking place from my perspective because as a noob, I wouldnt have seen it that way.

And no Li, no offense taken. I fear some may have taken offense at my attempt at explanation, my apologies in that regard.
